Re: HELP-LMDE 3 New Installation Optimum Patirionng Setup?

BG406, Thanks. Dumb Doc has Hopefully only 3 more "Mickey Mouse" questions: 1) I have over 40 Gigs of music files plus other basic files from pictures to old radio shows. How do I know or tell LMDE3 to put them into the DATA partition? 2) Which is the preferred partition in which to install Grub? 3...

Re: How to upgrade to LMDE 3

it seems that this should be a pinned post or something... The LMDE 2 support ends on 1-1-2019 topic is at the top of every LMDE 2 forum, and includes the link to that blog post. thanks. I remembered seeing a tutorial so I searched for the info here first, and then in the blog... but I did not see ...

Uh....anyone have a good flip-phone for sale? Does it have to be a flip phone? There are plenty of non-smart candybar phones to be had for a song. If all you want is phone calls and text messages, it's a buyer's market. I have a couple, and a couple that look like Blackberrys and some are even pret...

Re: Mint 17.3 low on disk space

don't over-complicate this. run Gparted from a live medium 1. expand the boundary of the Extended partition all the way to the left. 2. move the partitions within all the way to the left 3. move the boundary of that Extended partition over as desired. now the un-formatted area adjoins the BIG 240......

consumers will pay the fee, and they will be happy that they are being "protected" from something Apparently they're mostly going to be protected from the insidious pre-installed the Google Search app , and might now be forced to, er, I meant, encouraged to, to type in "google.com" (or google.co.uk...

Re: Timeshift. Where can I keep the snapshot?

I recommend a separate partition on the same machine, internal drive. If it does what it is supposed to do It will take boot snapshots, that can't happen reliably on a USB. space is a concern. the snapshots are Huge. root partition is using 6.19 GB timeshift partition is using 10.37 GB https://previ...

Re: Will mint run with 2 Xeon processors

I was looking at a local auction house for a replacement laptop and noticed that they are offering some servers with twin Xeon E5620 Quad Core processors and 24Gb Ram. I'm half considering purchasing one as my media server. Could I use it as a normal PC? Any tricks/traps for the unwary user? Yes. I...

Ideally clean install, or

Code: Select all

apt install mint-meta-mate
and then switch the desktop environment at the login screen (icon to the right of your user name).
mint-meta-mate? that sounds odd.
I think he wants to go to Cinnamon

True, clean install is best

Re: Custom install

Thanks for your answer. In fact, I reallly wanted Linux Mint as it's well finished, with good graphics and all. Finally, I managed to install it yesterday, simply by putting /home and /usr on a different disk (the EeePC has a card slot, so I took a fast SD card, and splitted it in 2 partitions). Th...
