Re: Application recommendations for sync (not backup)?

Syncthing may be what you are looking for. https://syncthing.net/

I use it to sync folders on about 8 devices, some kinda local and a couple remote.
no experience with SyncToy so I don't know how it compares.

Re: Can a webapp mount my disk?

Mounting internal disks and partitions without requiring a password is a "desirable feature" in Ubuntu and Linux Mint.
I consider also it a security hole.

I do not know of a way to modify that behaviour (revert to the Debian default).

Re: Thunderbird - export

Will this allow me to use to import function to bring the SAVED emails over to the new computer installation ? No. The import feature is for importing from other programs. You could use ImportExportTools , but usually this is far too circumstantial. Copy the complete .thunderbird folder, and you ha...

Is it OK to remove all the Flatpak software from Mint 18.3 Cinnamon? I just don't really see a need for this software on my computers. Am I missing something by not using this software??? Re: New ssd

SSD is used in the same manner as a conventional HDD... nothing special. There lots of ways to clone systems and transfer files. I prefer making a fresh install, then later copy files and install apps. Your old drive will make a great backup destination, bonus! PS: I recommend using GPT file partiti...

Re: At what point should you start fresh and reinstall Mint?

Your descriptions sounds, as if a fresh install would be not only the most effective, but also the quickest method. Do a complete backup of your home at first on an external drive, so that you are afterwards able to get your data back. I agree. Use a separate /home partition, it makes backups much ...

Re: Disk failure due to heat [solved]

sorry for the bad news. Now comes the time work on your backups and reinstall plan.

for a laptop I recommend a SSD. less heat generated, less power consumption for longer battery life, and it will survive a fall to the floor.
Oh, faster too, much faster.

it seems that Devuan is stuck. Latest release was for Jessie. That effort started in 2014.

"The Internet? We are not interested in it" -- Bill Gates, 1993 MS has always been late in the game, part of the company culture. recheck disk health with GSmartControl

that tool you are using "gnome-disks" often gives false reports. Gnome has failed to fix it for years.
