Can I say that I've never used Mate, nor do I ever intend to...

Surely Gnome is supported... :D
No, no Gnome support. It is Cinnamon only (a fork of Gnome3) so maybe there will be compatibility, but maybe not.

Re: Daylight Savings Time, Like it or Hate it?

I live at 32° N so the summer/winner sun day change is not radical, and I am retired also.
DST is a major annoyance, but it is not really high on my list of things to concern myself with.

How about Spain wooping butt in Russia? That was cool, and Mexico didn't embarrass us either.

Re: Why not base LMDE on Devuan?

Ubuntu is problematic, testing and experimental combined ... it is expected.
Try both antiX and MX if you truly hate systemd.
I prefer Debian Stretch, more stable and many more resources (trusted resources)

cherry picking from Wikipedia: "Daylight Slaving Time". Historically, retailing, sports, and tourism interests have favored daylight saving, while agricultural and evening entertainment interests have opposed it. === How about some logic... Re: EU polls citizens on abandoning daylight savings time

Rene I disagree with your first paragraph. You are thinking of people in urban enviromens (most of the world's population) with a lifetime of indoctrination... but the Natural Humans use their internal clock that is set by the sun.

Re: EU polls citizens on abandoning daylight savings time

It is hard to fathom the original logic of using DST. Farm workers live by the Sun. DST is a silly annoyance, always has been. Industry adapts to the workforce, today commute times dictate the working hours of many. In the modern world we need to coordinate real time communication, and not much else...

thanks. every little bit helps.

BTW: "If you're an EU citizen"... actually you only need to State that you have EU citizenship, I see no way to verify that.

, I completely blocked that entire part of the data gatherer because I don't want to ever see that data When dealing with sensitive files a good philosophy is: never peek--not once--not ever. and better yet, not have possesion of the data to begin with. exactly. that data should never be collected,...

Re: Why not base LMDE on Devuan?

My thoughts... LMDE is not going to change. Just not gonna happen. LMDE 3 will be different, but it will be Debian Stretch based, well probably some Buster too... But it will be systemd. If you want to be systemd free, go with a group that has more experience than Duvian. Stretch based from the begi...

Re: Virtual machine on ssd

I don't use virtual machines, I prefer bare metal installs, but that is off point. SSDs have come a long way since they were first introduced. They are very durable. I use them because they are Fast and Shock Resistant and they don't generate much heat (keeping my power bill down too). after Many i...

Re: Linux Mint Debian Edition 3

A timeline implies that there are multiple targets for reaching ultimate LMDE3 - is this the case? from "the blog" posted today: "Next on our list is LMDE 3 aka “Cindy”. We upgraded it with the latest Cinnamon and all the components which got into Linux Mint 19 already. We’re hoping to release it a...

It seems like about half of the distros out there won't even boot, run and install properly, and about 3/4 of those that do have display issues, unmaintained repositories, or other major issues. .... Seems to me that there were issues you couldn't solve, not surprising since most distros have u...

Re: Linux Mint 19 “Tara” MATE – BETA Release

No need to apologize for nit picking. A lot of the time when we move to a new base users will end up running into things we never did when they try the beta. Cleaning up as many of those little things as we can helps up the overall level of polish a good bit. Maybe I am missing something Sir. How i...

Re: Linux Mint 19 “Tara” MATE – BETA Release

If you say so :) We've been doing it this way for years. Clem seems to have a system for sorting it all. It gets put in the linux mint roadmap on github and then the rest of us can just go there to pick out things to work on. I don't see how a forum thread would be any better. It also doesn't requi...

"Mate is a shady character" funny
truth is that Ubuntu butchered their spin, then Mint compounded it.
it is only the Ubuntu and Mint versions that are borked.

Re: Timeshift - is it reliable?

I have it installed via Mint 19 Beta. I have some snapshots, hoping it retains my personal data and desktop settings. I know that it was originally intended just as a system restore tool, but I don't really have much need for that if my settings don't also get restored. I need to review the settings...

I would very much like to see an option for automated creation of a separate /home partition... doesn't even have to be default or recommended, just available. Perhaps the Mint 19 installer is d...
