Re: How to burn WIN 10 iso to usb from Linux Mint

I tried that that too with no success. However on the MS website there "was" a facility to create a USB installer... it took several hours to create. It does work, I have used it several times. No, I don't know if it is still available or how to navigate to it. Good luck! PS: CAUTION!!! at some poin...

Re: Is Linux Mint based on Ubuntu or Debian?

yes, Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu There is a lesser know version called LMDE that is actually based of Debian we could go on and on for ages about the differences between Ubuntu and Debian, and the pros and cons of both. It is best t sum it up as the differences are Huge. (I am a Debian user now af...

Re: Preparing for Mint to drop the KDE distro

@banjo you said "I put Debian KDE on the computer, and I could not figure out how to get the WiFi to connect to finish the installation." were you using the non-free ISO? It includes the proprietary drivers and installs what you need when it detects your hardware. Here is a link to the non-free ISO ...

Re: Preparing for Mint to drop the KDE distro

when the hubbub started I decided to check out what the appeal is for KDE. (and I am a hard core Mate desktop fan.) I do understand why you folk like it. anyway, I made a bunch of installs and ran them around the block. Three stood out: SolydXK. https://solydxk.com/ a few years ago Mint dropped both...

Re: KDE VS Cinnamon

+1 for Mate. I've tried them all and, to me, Mate is the most intuitive DE available. I do agree with that. Mint is slowly learning it's strengths and weaknesses. Cinnamon is where their heart is, so they should stick with that and drop the rest. There are many distros that specialize in the other ...

I do not know, but I think not.
I suggest you visit their webpage and read the "about". That with the active bug reports should tell you about all that it is capable of.

Re: Windows 10 alongside Mint 18.3

maybe 32 is fine for both... I had a Asus Eee PC 1000HE Netbook (32bit, tiny SSD) that I used to multiboot, primarily with LMDE. (it is still in use today) If windows needs 20 (minimal) then you have enough space so that you could run a number of different OSs in that other 12, and adjust the sizes ...

Re: Brother MFC-7360N

@Turbo2 Maybe I missed something here, did you try installing the .deb file from the Brother site? http://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadtop.aspx?c=us_ot&lang=en&prod=mfc7360n_all I have different models but it has worked for me several times on various OSs (Debian and Debian based). Re: Nothing I delete appears in trash

Interesting. I think maybe this is only a Linux Mint or a Cinnamon thing. which desktop are you using RobNID? I used LMDE with Mate desktop for a few years, everything went to the trash, no delete option at all... a two step process with emptying the trash. Now that we have migrated to Debian Mate w...

whatever is easiest for you. I use periods and spaces etc. and have had no problems... ...with the one exception of Dropbox. They have a bug/feature that hates double spaces in file names and screws it up... or something like that. DB support was unhelpful and unfriendly, which made them untrusted b...

Try this:
while you are running the live session with your USB/CD
start Gparted
create the partitions you want
then start the install process.

Re: installing kde desktop enviorment

I have had miserable luck with multiple desktops in the same system. installing kde-full might work, but maybe not... there a lot of Debian based distros with KDE as their flagship product... as well as the Debian KDE distro. There are many variations between them... a couple are really easy and sim...

I use LuckyBackup. Lots of redundancy, scheduled and automated.
Occasionally I also clone my OS partitions onto an external drive with Gparted.

Windows 10 for whatever reason wouldn’t download first, the option to install windows and delete everything on the hard doesn’t come up so I installed mint. But I want them dual boot to play games on windows how are you "downloading" windows 10? I have a USB Windows 10 installer that MS created fro...

Re: Making battery last longer? Underclocking cpu?

I've had pretty decent results with the TLP power management program. I believe it's part of the repositories starting with the 18 series of Mint, but if you can't find it via the software manager, you can add it via PPA: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:linrunner/tlp sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get in...
