Re: File Manager gets stuck in Panel Mate 18.0

File Manager getting stuck in Panel when Minimized are you using Caja? what do you mean by "getting stuck"? It should be showing in the window list until it is closed. (I did not see your bug report if you made one) BTW: Mate is not a "flagship" for Mint... that would be Cinnamon, their own creation.

Re: Preparing for Mint to drop the KDE distro

>big snip< Vanilla Debian is more work out of the box, but it is always a risk adding newer software to a Debian Stable base. Also the more I think about it, the less interested I become in having two desktops on one base like using Xfce Mint and adding KDE. I'm going to hold onto Kubuntu as I beli...

Re: Preparing for Mint to drop the KDE distro

There seems to be some confusion about Debian. You really do not need to load KDE (or any other desktop) on top of Debian manually. For KDE there are these ISOs with all that fuss already done for you. Torrent: https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unofficial/non-free/cd-including-firmware/9.4.0-live+n...

Re: How much computer/linux/non-linux experience for LMDE?

I have been playing with MX17.1 for a couple of days... just now a fresh install with btfrs file system. I do not care for Xfce but have managed to Mate going now... it seems pretty good. MX17 is Debian Stable (Stretch) based, seems pretty solid. The Installer is Fantastic! Wow: https://mxlinux.org...

Re: WHITE RABBIT: And when it comes to that fantastic bit where the rabbit bites its own head off

early 1970's I walked into a back street bar in Tijuana with some biker buddies... all went silent,
all eyes were on the black leather jacketed white boys.

It was forever, then the band played the worst ever rendition of Louie Louie
That band save our butts!

Re: Which SSD Should I Buy?

Hoping someone here has awareness of all this technical data well, that is not me. But I have been using SSDs for more then a year, and now own several, and using them on several devices... Last year I was rehabbing some Dell 5410 laptops, found some 120 GB drives on Ebay for $40 each. I forget the...

Re: How to move custom launcher to bottom of MATE's main menu?

I just now opened the Main Menu editor, selected one of the folders, and then moved it up and down using the arrows. The changes are effective in both "main menu" and the "menu bar". all I can think of is that Mint has some pieces of Mate missing. --sorry no screen shots, I quit dropbox and have not...

Re: Manjaro overtakes Mint in Distrowatch page-hit rankings

Debian testing (Buster) is not bad. The first few months it was more quirky. I much prefer Stretch (stable) and use Buster Repos and Sid (unstable) Repos to get a couple newer things like Firefox 60. The available non-free images (codecs and drivers included) with preloaded desktops are: Cinnamon Gn...

Re: Remmina or Teamviewer

I ponder a bit. Remmina is in the Debian Stretch (stable) repos, but Teamviewer is not, not even in the testing or unstable repos. I wonder why. It's not open source and it's a commercial product, albeit they don't charge for non-commercial use - doesn't normally sit well with Debian. Re non-commer...

edit your fstab file to include partition you want to use as /home this is just an example (the system I am using at the moment), the UUID must be exactly the same ... no typos! # / was on /dev/sdb5 during installation #/dev/sdb8: LABEL="820.d9.root" UUID="da22c951-3ce0-48e4-bc89-0fec1461b690" TYPE=...

Re: Daylight Savings Time, Like it or Hate it?

originally the concept of Daylight Savings Time was a bad idea.
It had it's place I suppose, but the intended goals never were reached.

Re: Using Windows 10 was like...

I use a Garmin navigation system. We have replaced the Garmin maps with maps from OpenStreetMaps. That means we can update it on Linux, by simply downloading the maps and putting them on an SD card that goes into the device. I don't think that works for all brands and models, but for ours it does. ...
