Re: ASUS EeePc X101CH Video Drivers?

Thanks again for your help and advice. Decided to leave the resolution for a little while and focus on setting up the custom distro, with the idea that once I've got a nice system configured on a Live USB stick, I can then play around with the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and still restore the otherwise ...

Re: ASUS EeePc X101CH Video Drivers?

Sincere thanks for your help, mate, especially that you came back to give a bit of simpler advice. I tried to run through the ArchLinux solution late last night, and kept a log of all the files I had to apt-get and otherwise download a tar.gz and configure-make-make install, and got lost somewhere i...

ASUS EeePc X101CH Video Drivers?

On Monday I bought my girlfriend her first computer. A little ASUS netbook - Eee PC model X101CH-BRN007W. It didn't come with any sort of operating system apart from the Express Gate Cloud, so naturally I've installed GNU/Linux for her to learn on. The problem I have been unsuccessful in finding any...

Goodnight Thread.

I searched yesterday but found naught. The time I spend on the forum is very important time to me, because I put 100% of my heart into every post I read, and 110% into everything I write. In summary, it's important as a mark of respect to say goodnight to such a forum when the time comes, and I hope...

I hope that Linphone doesn't expect people to pay them money to download and compile source code. They pay me for my time, then I'll fix their code. Clear?

I was curious if you guys have used Linphone and if you have what are your thoughts of it. Thanks, Tommy Can you please post a URL for a good Linux download, and I'll let you know as soon as I have called my Mother. -o0o- It's okay. wlan0 IEEE 802.11bgn ESSID:off/any I'm not an expert yet, but that ESSID off/any gives me an urge to reply. Is the passphrase correct? It shoudl be because you'd surely get that right before posting a thread on a forum, but just hoping it might point you in the right direction. I have many hours of ...

Re: Microsoft purchased Skype :(

Well I am not 100% about this but Microsoft can't buy out a Unix/Linux OS. they are open source. If I am wrong someone correct me. As for Microsoft buying Skype it will not have any affect for a few months. It's all the same hardware, all the same chips, all the same registers: mov ax dx Microsoft ...

Re: Microsoft purchased Skype :(

After some contemplation, I reckon that Microsoft would not try to by out Mint, nor Ubuntu, nor Debian, nor any other successful implementation of Linux, although their mouths must be watering over the opportunities that will never happen. Skype is of value to M$ because it has created the network o...

What is the name of the program you are trying to download?

Also, what is the URL for the download, and what application are you hoping to execute with the program? There maybe simpler alternatives, but I don't know the objective at this stage.

Re: Microsoft purchased Skype :(

Linux user-base is not significant in terms of numbers, but I would find it very funny, if everyone in the world just uninstalled Skype right now, making this 8.5 billion dollar acquisition the biggest, most epic fail of all time. That's my plan, but I still have another $7.65 AUD to use up and wai...

Re: hiding a mounted partition

Hi I'm doing some family tech support, setting up a Toshiba satellite laptop to dual boot Windows 7 and Linux Mint Julia. I want to allow file transfer or use between the two systems. I set up a folder on the Win7 partition called mint, and then set Mint to mount the Win7 partition. In order to pre...

Re: Update manager - extra icon

I have just installed MInt Debian and done all updates (refugee from Ubuntu 11.04). I have two update icons in the notification area. One is the normal shield for MintUpdate, which says the system is up to date. The other is a black star. Moving the mouse pointer over this says there are 2 updates ...

Re: Seamonkey

It took me all day yesterday to realize why Seamonkey crashed every time I pushed the compose tab. I take it you mean the button down second from bottom left, just left of the Done message when the page is loaded. I haven't had reason to open a Composer since 1998, but I am running SeaMonkey 2.0.13...

Re: Question about setting the layout and screenshot

What version are you now running? Good point. It might not be the same in Julia as I just checked out in Katya, although I think I remember seeing the Keyboard Shortcuts listing in the preferences menu for a few of the past Ubuntu generations. I've just never bothered to look at them until this que...

Re: Question about setting the layout and screenshot

Thank you for the reply. I have checked this tool. There is also a delay option in sec. I would like to know if it is possible to use a shortcut like "printscreen" in windows. I believe that the standard keyboard shortcut for taking a screenshot is Print (PrtScn) but you can double check in the Pre...

Re: Mint Overtakes Ubuntu for #1 spot

That's quite an amazing performance. I had a look yesterday at around lunchtime in GMT+7 land, which is how I ended up here on this forum. I didn't write down the figures, but noticed that Mint had finally broken the 2,000 barrier, and was around 2,200 to Ubuntu 2,500 around 30 hours ago. Not meanin...
