Re: software installation

Looks like a good page to reference, now that I know what "obsolete" really means.
I've bookmarked the page.
Thanks.

Re: software installation

Whoa ... download and manually install the nvidia driver myself ?
There's a pretty steep learning curve and fairly high risk in doing that.
I'll check it out though.
Thanks.

Re: software installation

Hundreds... that (most likely) won't work on other versions.
Home-made themes and tweaks that utilize compiz 0.8.6, gtk-2.0, emerald, yad and the list goes on.
A 3d capable nvida driver for the laptop I'm working on, is the thing I need the most right now.

Thx

Re: software installation

Man ... I hope that's not the last word on this. I have only been using LM-10 for a little over a year and a half during which time I've made "many" cool customizations that won't work on other versions. I never read about this in the fine print when I originally installed Mint. Groan, thank you for...

software installation

Hi, I've just installed Mint 10 on a friends laptop and have been tying to install needed drivers and software, but haven't been able to. I was getting lots of "failed to fetch messages" until I stepped into the deep end of the pool and tried to update the repositories. Now I'm seeing a lot of "Erro...

Re: Linux Mint 10 has problem with UPS system

donv: Nice to see you were able to resolve your UPS problem. According to the manufacturer's readme file, their PowerPanel software was updated last year to address a problem where their "OR series UPS always lost communication when using a usb port" on Linux systems. I'm currently using a newer Gre...

Re: Linux Mint 10 has problem with UPS system

Ahh . . . I see some other person with this problem has posted a reply two weeks after I came up with a workable solution. Recap: After booting into Linux Mint, the UPS unit would often not be recognized causing a "battery is critically low" message followed by a quick system shut-down. After some e...

Re: Linux Mint 10 has problem with UPS system

Ok . . . I'm pretty sure I've solved this one on my own !

I'll re-open this thread later if I need any more help with this.
I thank all of you, who took the time to read and think about it.

Linux Mint 10 has problem with UPS system

Hi, I live in an area that has frequent power fluctuations. I just connected a new UPS system but now when I boot up, my system claims my battery is critically low and quickly shuts down. The battery is fine. I installed the software that came with the UPS, but this initially, didn't change anything...

Re: boot error - mounting drive - press s to skip

Thanks much for your very kind offer altair4 ! I solved the problem by formatting the drive and reinstalling the Mint OS. I hadn't made many changes in Mint, so reinstalling it was a snap and no great loss. I needed to do it anyway . . . Previously, I had installed two Linux systems on a second hard...

Re: boot error - mounting drive - press s to skip

Thank you for your prompt reply, I'm up in the middle of the night here, so I'll make this fairly short and come back after I've slept some more . I think you are on the right track Seano! Something seems to have happened that has either altered a volume or it's path configuration data. At the momen...

boot error - mounting drive - press s to skip

Hi, I'm a novice/newbie - (only had Mint 11 for 2 days) I downloaded and installed a program called "pysdm" . . . it's a Storage Device Manager. My plan was to have my other internal hard drive get mounted on boot. I made some changes and now get this error when booting: An error occurred while moun...
