Re: Is Linux Socialistic?

It is not a left vs right thing. It is a top vs bottom thing. It is not a socialism vs capitalism thing. It is a anarchism/libertarianism vs authoritarianism thing. See the Political Compass at http://politicalcompass.org Linux is anarchistic/libertarian as opposed to authoritarian. Take the test an...

Re: Distros of interest and why.

I have been happily using Linux Mint 9-11 for many years. Just spent a few days checking out about a dozen distros on both virtualbox and an empty partition. The top three to make the short list were: 1) Linux Mint LMDE (DE: Xfce, WM: Compiz) 2) Chakra Linux (DE: KDE) 3) Sabayon (DE: Xfce) I killed ...

Re: I lost window borders

so much for 'linux = no crash'.. will it be any update for this.. Just a reminder: this is not a Linux thing. It is an Ubuntu / Linux Mint / Compiz thing. Keep in mind that the top supercomputers in the world ALL have Linux installed as their operating system. (http://www.top500.org/lists/2011/06) ...

Re: I lost window borders

Could you please clarify how to install "these two little fixes", and which ones exactly? How to roll back to the stable version -- Compiz 0.8.6? Sure. Let's start with this one. You need to go to this forum thread here: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=73456 and follow the 3 steps ...

Re: HOW TO DOWNGRADE TO COMPIZ 0.8.6 IN LINUXMINT 11

The last line really needs a bunch more packages included. You will probably want to add all or most of these. So replace step #3 with this: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:guido-iodice/compiz-0.8.6-natty sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get install compiz compiz-core compiz-fusion-plug...

Re: I lost window borders

After two simple fixes, Linux Mint 11 is superb. I love it. However, without those two fixes, it is frustrating and unbecoming the name "Linux MInt!" These two fixes remove the inherited problems that came from the upstream Ubuntu 11.04. 1) Compiz 0.9.4 is unstable junk. You must roll back to the st...

Re: I lost window borders

I tried that already. I have it set to the default Mint-X-Metal. No change.

I tried just about everything I could in the Control Center, also.

I lost window borders

Hello. I installed Mint 11rc yesterday and everything was working wonderfully. I love this distro. However, this morning after booting up I don't have window borders on any app window. Thus I can't move or resize those windows either. This is probably a simple config issue or maybe I need to reinsta...
