Re: How Linux Mint 11 Should look

Well I disagree with this. Global menus have far too many problems: they break 'sloppy focus' (focus follows mouse) which is a very useful feature True, but I've gotten used to not having that. Is this a problem inherent in any global menu or is this just a problem with gnome-globalmenu? It's an in...

You could also try Remastersys which will create an installable iso image from your system so you can basically reinstall back to a working configuration.

Well you need to undo what you did. If you edited .bashrc you can add a hash symbol ('#') in front of the lines you added.

You could have done this by clicking on the clock, expanding 'Location' and clicking edit. However, I don't think there is any harm in doing what you did.

Re: Dead in command line environment

Before you do anything else, I would use a live CD/USB to access the files in your home folder and back them up somewhere safe.

As for your issue, by 'green desktop screen' do you mean your wallpaper? Can you right click on it?

Only compile from source if you are a developer or a masochist. There is a high chance that doing this won't work. This is also a good way to break your system.

Re: Installing software offline/from DVD Linux Mint 11

You can use keryx to download software packages from a computer with an internet connection onto a USB stick then install them on the computer without an internet connection. Yes. MP3 support comes preinstalled in Mint. You can play it with any of the preinstalled media players. Banshee is the most...

Re: Chromium Latest Version

You could try reverting to a previous version using Synaptic Package Manager. Select the package: `chromium-browser` and go to Package->Force Version.

You can then chose one of the previous (working) versions to revert to.

Re: Auto run a video file on startup

Ah, LXDE is a bit different. You need to create a .desktop file in ~/.config/autostart. To do this, open a text editor and type: [Desktop Entry] Encoding=UTF-8 Name=NAME Comment=COMMENT Exec=vlc PATH Replace NAME and COMMENT with something suitable and replace PATH with the file path of your video. ...

You should report these bugs to compiz so hopefully they can fix them in future versions. They may also be able to help you to find a temporary solution. http://wiki.compiz.org/HowtoSubmitBugReports

Try going to 'Language Support' which you can find in System Settings and ensuring you have set your language. If that doesn't work you could try adding: export LANGUAGE = "en_US" export LC_ALL = "en_US" export LANG = "en_US" to ~/.bashrc Replace en_US with your appropriate locale. My guess is the f...

Flattr buttons on the websites

Mint is on flattr: https://flattr.com/thing/40006/Linux-Mint Flattr is my preferred way to donate and has a promising future. It would be good if flattr buttons were put on the websites. I'm thinking at least as an option on the donations page and possibly on the blog . It would also be nice to see ...

Alternative : there is a kind of open source clone of Matlab, Octave. The language is mostly compatible with Matlab. You can give it a try (download and install it by the software-center or with a simple sudo apt-get install octave) Also, qtoctave is pretty awesome - it provides a MATLAB like graph...

http://www.linuxmint.com/rel_katya_whatsnew.php Plymouth boot screen: Plymouth loads late in what is now a very fast boot sequence. It also fails to support most video drivers in high resolution. In Linux Mint 11, the entire boot sequence is black. You no longer see a logo or loading dots. This mak...

Re: Delete default bottom panel

I've found that the trick of removing it from the required components doesn't work anymore. I don't know if this is a bug, deliberate or just me. The method I use is to create a custom session without gnome-panel . I find this works really well but there is a downside that it won't start the freedes...

In sound preferences (which you can get to from the sound menu on the bottom right), you can set the volume 'above maximum' which, although it sounds silly, makes it a lot louder
