Re: Can't see my WinXP laptop shares from Mint KDE13[SOLVED]

Well it just goes to show, I'm destined to remain forever a noob. I went back and had a look at dolphins options and found that under view/panels I had 'folders' selected, when I swapped this for 'Places' my network icon re-appeared in the list to the left. What a silly oversight on my part and I do...

Re: Can't see my WinXP laptop shares from Mint KDE 13

Thanks altair4, that did the trick and I can at least see my network shares now, but I'm still a little bemused as to why I have to type that command into a terminal when in Cinnamon it was already there when I opened the file browser. I guess I have some learning to do because it seems to me that t...

Can't see my WinXP laptop shares from Mint KDE13[SOLVED]

Hi all. Until a few weeks ago I was running Mint 12 Cinnamon on my main desktop PC but kept getting wierd lock-ups and problems like themes dropping out, so I clean installed Mint KDE 13 and just copied what files I needed from my old mint home directory. Everything is going really well and I'm lovi...

Re: Poll: Desktop environments

I absolutely loved Cinnamon, but kept getting wierd glitches like themes dropping out or the mint menu freezing while browsing for items. I had openSuse installed dual boot and KDE worked perfectly so I installed Mint KDE 13 when it arrived. I've had a perfectly smooth time with it so far (other tha...

Re: If you had ONE request for the Cinnamon devs what would

Information bubbles or flags when you float the mouse over options or checkboxes to let newbies (like me) know what that option 'really' does. In Cinnamon I left the checkbox ticked in 'panel options/panel edit mode' and could no longer select minimised items on the task bar, I had to use alt+tab. T...

Re: Minimised programs not responding to mouse click

Well after a little head scratching and back tracking on all the stuff I've been 'tinkering' with in Cinnamon I've fixed this problem myself. Apparently, if you leave the checkbox in 'panel settings/panel edit mode' ticked you get the above symptoms. I simply unticked that box and everything is how ...

Minimised programs not responding to mouse click

Hi everyone, I can't find a topic with quite the same issue as the one I have so I wondered if anyone could throw some light on a particularly frustrating problem that has occured with my three day old install of Mint 12 and Cinnamon. I don't seem to be able to select a program from the task bar, ir...

Re: Mint 12 KDE doesn't install

I have exactly the same problem as Vexbanner. I get to determine which partition to use as / and home but shortly after I label the other partitions (I have Mint 12 Cinnamon, openSUSE and Win7 installed) the install program crashes out. This happens at the exact same place every time during the part...

Re: New Mint 12 install hangs after cups loads

Hi Mads, Thanks very much for your reply. Unfortunately I got the same error all the time. I am however now typing this in my new Mint 12 installation. I tried one last time using the new media created yesterday and formatted two new partitions for root and home, held my breath, crossed my fingers a...

New Mint 12 install hangs after cups loads

Hi all, I've been using Mint for almost a year now and my last install was Mint 12 from the day it was released. Recently, I wanted to test Ubuntu Studio (which I went on to use almost exclusively for about a month). The problem started when I wanted to get rid of Windows 7 and free up some drive sp...

Re: Mouse pointer is much too fast

Well I'm now working 90% in openSuse 11.4 and the rest in Windows becuse Mint is refusing to play nice with my new mouse. It seems odd really that Mint works well with the Microsoft mouse (with the dodgy buttons) but won't allow me to slow the pointer on the PCLine mouse. The thing is, everyt...

Mouse pointer is much too fast

Hi everyone. Please forgive me if you know immediately where the answer to this problem is, but I have been looking for almost a week now. I have Googled it, searched these forums (numerous times with different phrasing) and looked on the Ubuntu site and forums, but I never get an answer that works....

Re: What are your top tips for a Newbie?

I chopped up some pics and put this wallpaper together. I have it on my physical server as well as my VMs. That looks like it might be a fairly useful desktop background image, but that particular one you've provided there is too low quality to read clearly. Would you be so kind as to provide a hig...

Hello... Hello... Is this thing working?

OMG! IT IS! :D Finally, a Linux distribution that actually works the way I want it to and runs everything I want it to. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I have been a Linux 'dabbler' since I first installed a version of Caldera on an old PC. I have since played with probably all of the main contende...
