Re: Changing from Mint10 to Mint11

Kendall's right. I'm extremely happy with Linux Mint 10, and don't plan to upgrade until Mint 12 is released. Doing things like replacing OpenOffice.org with LibreOffice and installing Banshee were a snap. Really, if you're comfortable with what you have, I would say you should just stick with it. ...

Re: the future of linux mint

From what I have been reading . . . the new Windows-8 is going to be using Ubuntu's Unity desktop. Basically, a large cell-phone screen with many, many Apps on the desktop. Except, that Linux doesn't have the viruses and headaches that Windows is plagued with. [Moved to: Chat about Linuxmint, as th...

I like Linda. The connection with the word beautiful fits Linux Mint very well.

Re: Changing from Mint10 to Mint11

The underlying code base is a little newer, the boot time is a little faster, and some of the apps are more current. Outside of that there should be no major reason to upgrade. With some PPA's you should be able to get current app versions on Mint 10 for just about everything that's widely used. Ke...

Re: Not sure if this belongs here...tried the Gnome 3...

If you have a test partition handy and feel like being testing out an Ubuntu based version of Gnome 3 you can try the Ubuntu Gnome Remix install (UGR). Right now you have to install Natty first then the UGR repos over it (adds a control factor for what comes from the Gnome3-team PPA, works pretty w...

Re: Is LM Gnome losing favouritism from Users for Zorin OS ?

doubt it, I've never even heard of zorin os. I hadn't heard of Zorin OS until this thread either. I don't really see too much of the Windows resemblance. In fact, I actually took a double-take when I saw the gallery pictures, because I thought they were running KDE 3.x instead of Gnome. I can't rea...

Absolutely hilarious! I especially liked the names for the different geographical features. I can tell a lot of thought was put into this map.

Re: Mint11 WON'T ship whit Gnome3

Not me, have everything running minty fresh. Am done experimenting around with unknowns. The default Mint 10 gnome is dandy ( and only using like 125-133mbs RAM when no apps are running. Down from 214-216mbs default install.) All my DE's are streamlined and minty fresh. Done with trying to get the ...

Stability Seeker

Greetings, Mint community! Ubuntu was my first Linux distribution, and though I definitely loved using it, I've grown pretty weary of some of the changes that have been made to its design (particularly the Me Menu) and the long buggy period each new release goes through. I've also gotten tired of fe...
