I had this same problem a few years ago and it eventually fixed itself. Took a while but it's never happened again. Still no idea what caused it.

Re: How do I know if I'm ready to permanently switch to Linux Mint?
I used to have two laptops, one with Windows and the other with Mint. I kept the Windows machine just in case there was something Mint couldn't do. When I finally realised that I never used the Windows machine, I put Mint on it and never went near Windows again. You'll know when you're ready to jump...

Re: Hypnotix
It might be that what Hypnotix is doing is actually illegal (in the UK at least). The UK TV companies take a dim view of that sort of thing.

WD external drive problem.(Solved! Panic over.)
After connecting my new WD external drive, making sure it was recognised etc., I reformatted it to NTFS, out of habit. Normally this isn't a problem but now, although Mint accepts that the drive exists (lsblk, lsusb), it refuses to mount it. Have I destroyed a perfectly good drive or can I rescue it?

You could try Peppermint Linux OS. It's 32 bit and runs on 1Gb of RAM. It's quite happy on my elderly HP laptop.

If you must play games then I'd stick with Windows. Wine is hit and miss at best.

Re: Linux Mint, not Ubuntu
Also, whey I type the command "uname -a" it also shows that I'm running Ubuntu with no mention of Linux Mint: Ask for your distro parameters with : cat /etc/os-release and you'll have more mint than Earl Grey had in his tea  There's no mint in Earl Grey tea. It's flavoured with oil ...

Update Manager vs. clean install.
I don't think I've ever upgraded Mint via the Update Manager. Are there any likely problems with it or should I just do a clean install?

Re: Using Flash Drives Between Linux and Windows
Widows sometimes does something to removable drives which makes them unrecognisable to a Linux machine. I've no idea what it is but sheer spite comes to mind. Always use the safe remove option on Windows just in case.

Re: install roxio creator nxt 7
Roxio is awful. I got a copy with my burner and it had to be reinstalled each time I needed to use it. I complained to the suppliers and the they admitted they also didn't think much of Roxio and sent me a free copy of Nero.
Brasero and DeVeDe are much better. XfBurn for burning.
