Re: Qt apps not cooperating with theming variations

Thanx! I'll try that when I get home and have time to fool with it.

PS -- is this a command I need to run every time I create a theme?

Qt apps not cooperating with theming variations

Over the weekend, I tried making my own variations of the Linux Mint default theme. I love how Cinnamon applies the GTK theme even to Qt apps. However, I ran into a problem. With the variation I made, which involves changing the menus so that they have white text on a jet-black background, I still g...

Fred in St. Louis

I'm a returning Mint user who has used the Xfce edition in two different stints, and 6 weeks ago, I decided to return to Mint and give the Cinnamon edition a whirl on both my desktop and laptop, now that it hasn't had GNOME 3 as a dependency in quite a while -- I gotta say, I LOVE IT and will probab...

Mass commenting in LibreOffice Writer -- is this possible?

I've been Googling this and can't find a thing on it. I'm well aware that with the command line, one can easily and quickly automate repetitive tasks (I've been a Linux user for close to 11 years, BTW), and this involves a project I have at work. I work as a reference librarian in a college library,...

[SOLVED] GNOME-Colors icon theme bug

I just installed the latest Mint Xfce onto my laptop about 90 minutes or so ago. One of the things I did after installing was install the GNOME-Colors series of icon themes. Unfortunately, that created entries in the appearance settings for the now-non-existent Arc-Colors series of GDM themes (when ...

Re: New Crunchbang ISO Released

I too am very disappointed by Corenominal's move to go back to strictly Openbox. I currently have #! Xfce on my computer, but am looking for another distro precisely because of this. BTW, I am considering a possible return to Mint with the LMDE Xfce edition, although when I try to install it, I'm pr...

SUGGESTION: Please replace Thunderbird with Spicebird

I have recently returned to Linux Mint. I left earlier this year when I ran into a problem in the Xfce version (I ditched GNOME earlier this year and ditched KDE when version 4 came out nearly 3 years ago) where I couldn't log back in unless I was using the full 1600 x 900 resolution, but with Mint ...

Mint and I are officially parting ways

For quite a while, I used the main (GNOME) version of Mint until I saw some preview videos of GNOME 3. As someone who liked KDE 3.x a lot until KDE 4 came out, I did not wish to go through anything like that again. Also, the attitudes of some people on GNOME-Look have driven me to Xfce as of late, e...

SOLVED: HELP!!! I CAN'T LOG BACK IN!!!

I found that there are several possible reasons for this, so I printed them out and went down the line and tried all those possibilities. In my case, it turns out that there was something in my /home/fred/.profile file that Mint choked on. I deleted that having logged in on just a command line, and ...

Re: Need Linux Command (s) to get back to Gnome Desktop

I'm having a problem similar to this, plus I too have both the GNOME and Xfce desktops installed. Therefore, I'd like to know what's going on here as well.

Re: HELP!!! I CAN'T LOG BACK IN!!!

UPDATE: I've found that I can log in with "Failsafe GNOME" -- but nothing else works. At least there's that, albeit sans audio...hopefully this gives a few clues as to the problem...I've gotta get outta here and go to work, where I'm on that virus-laden OS, and not by choice. I'll try y'all's sugges...

HELP!!! I CAN'T LOG BACK IN!!!

I just downloaded the mint-meta-xfce package to my Linux Mint box. I just tried editing the icon spacing, logged out, tried logging back in...and now I can't log in, even after logging in as my wife (who I've also given administrative privileges to) and deleting the icon spacing configuration file. ...

Xfmedia segmentation fault

Having decided to switch from GNOME to Xfce for my desktop, I installed the mint-meta-xfce package. All went perfectly there, although it took me a minute to figure out how to figure out hot to re-enable Compiz and the wobbly windows and the like, but that's all running just hunky-dory, too. I also ...

Re: Xubuntu Speed Comparison?

I'm very encouraged by everyone saying that Mint XFCE is faster than Xubuntu. I've always thought it to be such a shame how Xubuntu has damaged Xfce's reputation in the speed department. BTW, I've been seriously considering switching from GNOME to Xfce lately, because even with 1 GB of RAM on my com...

Re: Metacity window button placement in Mint 9

OK, a little more clarification -- the reason I have a problem with this is because someone coming to Ubuntu or Mint or whatever from Windows isn't gonna know right offhand that they can change that, let alone where to make the changes. Remember, Windows doesn't give one all these freedoms to, in th...

Metacity window button placement in Mint 9

I just saw where for Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx), they're planning to break with tradition and put the minimize, maximize, and close buttons at the left end of the Metacity titlebar instead of at the right end. I hope and pray that Mint doesn't do the same thing with that when Isabella comes out, beca...

Re: could not apply changes fix broken packages first

Barkhat, from the MintMenu, you will need to view all applications, and then go to Administration --> Software Sources. In the "Software Sources" dialog box, click on the "Other Software" tab, and then look for a line that says http://packages.medibuntu.org/ karmic free non-free -- that's the URL fo...

[SOLVED] Re: Help! I've screwed up MintMenu!

PS -- I've used the GNOME Menu bar and the Main Menu before too, so I actually accessed the terminal from the Main Menu as a temporary replacement until peace and order could be restored in MintMenu. I'd had experience with the Main Menu and the GNOME Configuration Editor before when setting up Ubun...
