Re: Password manager vulnerabilites

FWIW I've come to think we are likely a lot safer using KeePass as opposed to letting a browser have any passwords. I've got KeePassX installed now and am shifting all my important records to this venu by storing the database and key in Dropbox I have access to this from any of the halfdozen or so ...

FYI: If you discover issues between firejail and pulse audio, the following work-around may be useful:

Actually, I believe that is the real secret to Window's success. Keep the customers playing and they won't notice the reboots, viruses, malware, reinstallations, spying, etc., etc.

Re: Linux mint 18 KDE desktop freeze

Two suggestions: 1. Burn a USB with Maui 2 on it, and reboot off the USB. If the problem does not reappear, your solution may be an updated version of KDE that is currently not available with Mint. 2. I run a somewhat bleeding edge Lenovo T460s, and the more current kernels (i.e., 4.6, 4.7, and 4.8)...

Re: NEON (kde)

I find NEON attractive for reasons already stated. It keeps my Mint-Mint 'pure' but allows me the flexibility I like to have with such KDE programmes as Digikam but that is what choice is all about. However I think you are a bit harsh about the 'geeks' as you have said yourself there is a developer...

Re: Zero-Day Windows exploit "AtomBombing"

I just read this article, link below. I'm not even going to try to explain it, as it's mostly over my head. If what this article reports is true, it seems we are in for some bad times. One person who commented asked about all the ATMs running Windows . . . I wonder if from now on I'm just going to ...

Options missed:

- It's much more stable than Windows.

- No MS Office, or any other malware (come to think about it).

Re: Microsoft and Linux.

I cannot even wipe the drive on my new W10 Pc. Pretty sad. With HD prices (and now SSD prices) so low, my solution is to 1. Disable secure boot 2. Disable UEFI 3. Pull the Winblows drive 4. Put in a brand new (read: empty) drive. 5. Partition and install. Curiously enough, the number of problems I ...

Re: Poll: What's Mint KDE 18 like? Please click!

I find it a good effort, but unfortunately hindered by not using a more recent version of plasma. I wonder if I should add the neon stable repository to Mint KDE. But, available time is lacking, and Neon and Maui already provide quite usable and up to date distributions. Mint KDE's strength has alwa...

Re: Linux Mint 18 “Sarah” KDE released!

There have recently been a few negative comments about LM18 KDE on here. So what are the compelling reasons that I should give it a try? Compelling reasons for LM18 KDE? Well, I would consider Dolphin a compelling reason, if it's root capabilities were not missing in Mint. KDE Connect is als...

Re: Plasma 5.6 changes setup of KDE's multiple virtual desktops

PS: I was upset to discover today that Dolphin in Mint 18 KDE, exactly the same as Fedora 24 KDE5 & Kubuntu 16.04, has lost its fabulous context-menu Root Actions. For me, that was always one of the magical fillips of being a KDE4 user; sooooooooo very handy. In the ~month i've been playing wit...

Clem handles everything for the blog. Between investigation issues reported and fixing them, sometimes it takes longer for comments to be approved or there may be a reason yours isn't approved. No worries. My post was fairly nondescript, so I assumed Clem was either swamped or in need of a break. H...

Re: Mint 18KDE

I didn't like the default themes for KDE 5 or how other distros have shipped KDE 5. Poking around with the pre-beta release of Linux Mint 18 KDE (it's not available publicly) this morning and I must say I really like what the team did with the theme! It has a Cinnamon kind of vibe to it now. So it ...

Re: Linux Mint 18 KDE to use what version of KDE?

Interesting news from DistroWatch.com : The Netrunner distribution has discontinued its Kubuntu-based edition and replaced it with a new edition, called Maui, which uses KDE neon as a base. The first release of the new edition, Netrunner 1 "Maui", is built on a long term support (LTS) bas...

MS Office is too buggy to be relied upon in "mission critical" work. You think 99% of the business world that uses MS Office are putting up with bugs and are not getting their work done? Stop making stuff up. These are not "made up," Sir. I worked with MS Office for 15+ years be...

Re: Linux Mint 18 KDE to use what version of KDE?

That's why I hope Linux Mint 18 KDE will provide and support KDE updates, or at least include 5.7.3 by default. Do you think it will be differently from what Ubuntu uses? My guess is almost certainly not. While I would be thrilled if Mint chose 5.7.3 (or later), we can't ignore the fact that Cinnam...
