Re: Auto Login issue - setting does not stick

Try to do it manually. I guess you have gnome, right?

Code: Select all

sudo gedit /etc/gdm3/daemon.conf
Under it says [daemon] add these lines:

Code: Select all

AutomaticLoginEnable=true
AutomaticLogin=nameoftheuser
Where nameoftheuser is clearly the user you want to automatically log in.

Re: File shredding software

This is why I asked him what he is trying to do, I do not understand what he is trying to delete: if single files or the whole hard disk and in order to avoid what . Because it could be that a file shredder is not what he actually needs, there could be better solutions but they clearly depends upon ...

Re: File shredding software

My question is: is it really necessary? I mean, your purpose is to erase completely the data and then selling your hard disk? In such a case then probably yes, a file shredder is a good idea, so the person that will buy your hard disk will not be able to recover your data. What I am trying to say is...

Re: Ipod shuffle not mounting

Few tips, did you actually created a folder named IPOD in /mnt? Because if you tell it to mount in /mnt/IPOD, then such file must exist. What I am not sure about is LABEL="IPOD" . We have to find how your computer recognizes the ipod. The only thing we can do is actually try to find it. In your syst...

Re: MOUNTING PROBLEM for 1,5 TB WD EXT HDD for mint 11

What is the output of

Code: Select all

sudo cat /etc/fstab
and

Code: Select all

mount
By the way do you know what file system it uses? If you do not. Type:

Code: Select all

df -Th
and post it here too.

Re: Ipod shuffle not mounting

Try installing gtkpod if you have not already. If it still does not work, let's try to find at least what is the mount point (as far as we know it could actually mount, but not working for other reasons). So, unplug it. Open your terminal and type: mount Then plug it in, and do the same command. If ...

Re: How to get more choices for SCREEN RESOLUTIONS settings

Ok, let's try a different way. What does the command

Code: Select all

xrandr
outputs?
It should output a list of available resolutions (and other infos). If it actually outputs something bigger than 1024*768 we would probably fix it. So, what it says?

Re: Mint11 won't stop (actually won't restart)

The command is

Code: Select all

sudo reboot -f
not

Code: Select all

sudo restart -f
Try like I said, let's see if it gives any error.

Re: Mint11 won't stop (actually won't restart)

Open a terminal and write: sudo reboot -f In order to force a restart. Let's see if it works that way. If it does not, at least we would understand why not by looking at the message it gives you. So, if it does not work, post here what it outputs you. To shutdown your system you may try: sudo shutdo...

Mint Debian XFCE - avoid unwanted situations

I have download it twice, and both times I had the same issues. In order to avoid them what you can do is the following. Here are the problems and a possible workaround. It may not be the only one, clearly, likewise it may not even be the best solution. debian-multimedia unofficial repository The pr...

Re: Install eMail Notification problems

I am trying with LMDE, so I do not know if it is the same with Mint. Once installed, you can configure it by opening your terminal and typing: mail-notification A window will popup, where it says mailbox list add the program you frequently use in order to receive mails (evolution, Thunderbird etc.) ...

Re: Install eMail Notification problems

As I expected, I download it but there are not .exe files, it downloads a tar.bz2 archive which is correct. What I do not understand is how you got the .exe.
However as I said you should be able to install it directly from your terminal with:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install mail-notification

Re: Install eMail Notification problems

Wait, said so that is quite strange. Did you download it from the official website? Because if you downloaded it randomly from the internet it could be a virus. As you said it is for linux, so I do not see why it should be .exe. Actually, the is not any reason. Did you download it from here http://w...

Re: Install eMail Notification problems

You may try, but it will never work. Simply because .exe files are for windows, and they do not work on linux. They probably would if you install wine, this is one of the few things you can do. It would be better if there is the linux "counterpart" of such a program, or something that does the same....

Re: new - could not refresh the list of packages

They probably changed the PPA, therefore yours addressed to something that did not exist. I simply searched "PPA gwibber daily ubuntu maverick" on google and it brought me there: https://launchpad.net/~gwibber-daily/+archive/ppa and there you find it. The old style method consists simply by adding i...

Re: new - could not refresh the list of packages

My bad, I was thinking about the "old style" method. It was the correct path, but not what you had to add.
Undo what I said, go back to Software sources > other software > press add and write into it:

Code: Select all

ppa:gwibber-daily/ppa

Re: new - could not refresh the list of packages

Uhm, even if you unchecked them it still gives an error? I was talking about the gwibber one, the correct path should be: http://ppa.launchpad.net/gwibber-daily/ppa/ubuntu/dists/maverick/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz and http://ppa.launchpad.net/gwibber-daily/ppa/ubuntu/dists/maverick/main/source/Sou...

As you can see here, the problem is that they do not exist, actually, the path is wrong: http://ppa.launchpad.net/ Can you please give me the output of: cat /etc/apt/sources.list we simply have to change the path with the correct one.
