updates - April 2, 2019 - not working

Can not get updates applied to Linux Mint 19.1 today April 2, 2019, everything else seems to be working fine, i.e. email, access to Internet - is there something wrong with Linux Mint servers ? Thanks. Never mind, just tried it again and this time all worked just fine as a matter of fact the kernel ...

Re: Firefox brower - clearing history, etc. ?

if you delete cookies your logins will also be deleted. but i wouldn't uncheck cookies. the whole purpose of deleting history is to refresh your profile and erase footprints Thanks, however that being the case, should there not be a warning that checking cookies, will also remove active logins, or ...

Firefox brower - clearing history, etc. ?

Why is it that if I "uncheck" the ACTIVE LOGIN box when clearing browser history, etc. in Firefox that after performing the clear operation, that my saved logins are still cleared/dumped even though I have NOT checked that particular box indicating that I want them to be cleared, i.e. I want browsin...

Re: Various problems with CAJA

Finally found the solution - just WAIT. Downloaded another copy of the ISO image from Linux Mint download site and again started the copy process from its folder and this time when it got down to the zero seconds left on the copy process window, I just went away and worked on a household project for...

Re: Various problems with CAJA

I found this on another website regarding the quark, 0 error message: A weird solution that worked for me where GParted did not, was to format it using Mac OS X's Disk Utility initially (not the file system I ultimately wanted). Then I was able to format it on Ubuntu to NTFS which is what I wanted, ...

Re: Various problems with CAJA

Disk check utility reported problem with the USB drive, however the repair function of disk utility gave this: Error repairing filesystem on /dev/sdb1: Process reported exit code 1:fsck fat 4.1 (2017-01-24) (udisks-error-quark,0) I then went into gparted and it reported that it successfully repaired...

Re: Various problems with CAJA

Tried Nautilus and had same problem. It seems that for some reason it is not being able to move from copying the actual ISO image and moving on to copying the 2 sumcheck files. However, I just tried doing the copying separately on the ISO and the 2 sumcheck files instead of dragging the entire ISO f...

Re: Various problems with CAJA

Yes, you can use any file browser you want. And I can copy several gigabyte sized files without problems to thumb drives with caja on 19.1, so I really don't know what's happening. Hmmmmmmmm, looks like there is something incompatibility with copying those sumcheck files, because I have tried it se...

Re: Various problems with CAJA

Fair enough. I never experienced it but I'm not a huge caja user, either. From a quick scan of the issue thread it seems to be limited to networked file systems? If you've got additional info from your system maybe add it to the thread, the last relevant activity in there was saying it's fixed in L...

The link says it's fixed? Upgrade your system is you're still on LM17.x
Must not be fixed because these problems still occur and I am already on Mint 19.1 !!!

Thanks.

Various problems with CAJA

Is it possible that changing the processing priority of CAJA in system monitor
from normal to a higher priority setting could solve the various problems with
CAJA as described at the following link ?

https://github.com/mate-desktop/caja/issues/380

Thanks.

editing for changed router wi-fi password

Is there a function in network manager of Linux Mint 19.1 to EDIT/modify the PASSWORD on an existing wi-fi connection on which the password has been altered/changed from the old/previous password on the wireless router or does the old wireless connection just need to be removed and then enter the ne...

Re: why do monitor manufacturers put inactivty time-out feature on their products

Yes, apparently Linux Mint's NEVER setting does not successfully turn off the monitor's hardware power saving feature. And what I was saying originally is that if the Linux Mint power saving under screensaver can not do this properly, that it would be nice to have an option built into the monitor it...

Re: why do monitor manufacturers put inactivty time-out feature on their products

Perhaps I have found a solution. I put xset s 00 command in the startup applications and as Andy says "if she don't jump, I think we might have her". However, one would think that changing the display sleep setting in power management section under screensaver in Linux Mint to NEVER would make this ...

Re: why do monitor manufacturers put inactivty time-out feature on their products

The NEVER setting in screensaver seems to have no effect, my guess is that it can not override the built-in screen blanker in the monitors hardware/firmware. However, the xset -dpms command at the terminal disables the blanking just fine. Now if I could just discover how to get that command run auto...

Re: why do monitor manufacturers put inactivty time-out feature on their products

Is the NEVER setting for on PUT DISPLAY TO SLEEP WHEN INACTIVE FOR under power management
on the screensaver functions on Linux Mint supposed to do the exact same thing
as the xset -dpms command issued at the terminal ?

Thanks.

Re: why do monitor manufacturers put inactivty time-out feature on their products

Found this:

Sounds like it might be a solution, however, would be much simpler for this ability to be built into the hardware settings of
the device.

Re: why do monitor manufacturers put inactivty time-out feature on their products

If you mean your screen turning off while the computer is still sending a signal, I've never seen such a feature on any computer screen, only TV sets (and you can disable it on those). You need to press the power button for longer than 4 seconds to turn the PC off, so a non-issue. You're posting th...

why do monitor manufacturers put inactivty time-out feature on their products

Why do monitor manufacturers put inactivity time-out (screen blanking) on their products ? I ask this because this feature overrides turning off screensaver and power management features in the operating system and in the computer's BIOS. Having a display go blank after a period of inactivity is NOT...
