Why is it that if I click on a link in a vendor's email I may get a warning as per the attached screenshot

Why don't they consider just adding a 3rd source in the software sources of update manager, which could be used to sort of spread out the load by allowing all of the various Linux Mint users to make different choices as to where the Firefox updates would flow from, I doubt seriously that every Mint ...

That's a more precise explanation, however none of this really answers my original question
as to why I twice got just a stuck blinking cursor during boot when trying to do a restart after applying these
updates.

Was this likely cause by the special makeup on the xorg.conf file ?
