<SOLVED> Sleep/suspend not working properly.

Yahoo. I installed Linux Mint Cinnamon 17 and the Sleep function is working beautifully now! Selected the power setting for the system to go into Sleep mode when the power button is pressed, and voila.

<SOLVED> Software update fails to fetch libssl1.0.0

Thanks for the quick replies! The problem did resolve itself but not sure what it was that I did differently, other than doing an apt-get update.

Sleep/suspend not working properly.

I have tried a few different Linux distributions alongside Windows 8 and my favourite Linux distro: Mint KDE. All work fine. The only thing that I just can't get working properly with any of them is sleep/suspend. It seems to suspend ok when I click the power button or select sleep / suspend from th...

Re: Copying to USB pen drive very slow

I have exactly the same problem and no matter what USB pendrive I use. And like as Claudio described, copying to the external HDD happens in a flash. There is an article on Archlinux (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/USB_Storage_Devices) discussing this problem and suggesting the following fix I...

Re: LM 13 KDE: overheating problem

Same problem here with my Sony VIAO. Will be interested to see if someone responds with any suggestions, but otherwise may have to try a different Linux distro (much as I do like KDE)

Re: How to add Ubuntu Software Centre on Mint 13 (KDE)

Did all the steps, but when I try to run software-center I get the following error despite running and rerunning the "sudo update-apt-xapian-index": xapian.DatabaseOpeningError: Couldn't stat '/var/cache/software-center/xapian' (No such file or directory) I fixed this by running: sudo update-softwar...

Re: making the switch - ubuntu mint or debian mint

Interesting discussion and certainly a clear message about Debian-based distributions being more suited for 'techies'. Has anyone come across a really good comparison between all these different Linux Mint distributions however? I am still befuddled by the multitude of editions, e.g. - LM 12 - LM 12...

Re: Where are Power / Security settings?

No response yet to this query; surely this doesn't mean that Linux Mint 12 does not have Power/Security configuration options?! :(

Where are Power / Security settings?

I am running Linux Mint 12 in MATE/Cinamon mode. I can't for the life of me find where I can configure security or power settings to specify when the system should lock itself after x minutes of no activity, or power down/suspend. It is very surprising that Security is not listed as a configuration ...

Re: Firefox 10 hangs when starting it up (resolved)

Renaming the ./Home/Mozilla/Firefox directory did the trick! It meant having to reinstall the ad-ons, but at least its all back up and running. Many thanks!

Re: Firefox 10 hangs when starting it up

There may be an option at this point to choose to restart Firefox with the add-ons turned off. That's a good suggestion. I'll have a go at starting it in safe mode. I do have the following add-ons, which are pretty standard and wouldn't expect to be a problem: Firebug, Lastpass, Xmarks. Cheers, Ron

Firefox 10 hangs when starting it up

I am running Firefox 10.0.2 on Linux Mint 10. Since about a week and without any apparent reason, I am not able to get Firefox started. It brings up the "Well, this is embarrassing..." screen but then locks up and the Firefox window /session gets dimmed. I have to force close the session. I tried to...

The "Internet sharing connection" info worked beautifully. All connected without having to drill holes or buy another router! I'm happy! :)

Re: Connect devices on wired LAN to a wireless LAN

Thanks for the link to the "Internet Connection Sharing" article; at a quick glance looks like the right info. And yes, my wireless router/modem does have an RJ45 and would have been the simple answer to use that, except that it would involve drilling holes in walls to get the cabling done, which I'...

Connect devices on wired LAN to a wireless LAN [SOLVED]

Hi, I have my laptop with Linux Mint 11 connected to the Internet across a wireless LAN (network A). I also want to connect an ethernet LAN, which via a switch has a DVD and Western Digital network storage device attached. Question is, how do I get the laptop/Mint to act as a bridge between the wire...

Re: Mint 11 hangs after being inactive for a while

Same here. I've had Mint 11 for 2 days (upgraded from Mint 7) and the new girl has hanged herself 5 or 6 times. I am not sure it is associated with screensaver, it seems to occur during steady work, too. I have 4 or 5 windows running, like everyone else, switching and refreshing and the time, page ...

Re: Mint 11 hangs after being inactive for a while

No, issue not resolved. I don't want to and surely shouldn't have to disable my screen saver... Again, the question how to raise a bug fix request with the good people that bring us Linux Mint?

Re: Mint 11 hangs after being inactive for a while

Yup, got my screensaver enabled (just love that ant crawling over the desktop). Sounds like a bug with Linux Mint; what does one do to raise an issue about it? During the day it is good to have a screensaver, and apart from the crawling ant, I also like to use it to kick in a photo slide show. And t...

Mint 11 hangs after being inactive for a while

When I leave my laptop running overnight, I find that my machine is locked up in the morning: black screen, an occasional sign of life from the hard-disk indicator, but nothing else. The only way to get out of it is to hold down the power button till the machine powers off. I have looked at other po...
