Re: Mint-Y-Aqua sometimes still green...
Hello and thanks. I did consider this and wondered about it. As it's intentional that's fine, I get it - and it does me and my capacity almost for obsession in this sort of area some good, to have some solid evidence like this, so I appreciate your replies. I used to do theming myself but it wasn't ...

Re: Mint-Y-Aqua sometimes still green...
Apologies, I wandered off and was using another machine and a couple of Raspberry Pi's... If anyone's still there I attach a screenshot. (I did find a Mint-YZ theme but not the Aqua variation so I haven't tried that yet.) I'm on Mint 19.3, Cinnamon 4.4.8, and have also tried the theme with Debian 10...

Mint-Y-Aqua sometimes still green...
I think this minor but annoying issue stems from transparency used in gtk3 themes, as maybe it wasn't easy/ possible to trace the digits that needed altering, but I'm seeing a few green 'minty' buttons using the Mint-Y-Aqua theme which using other themes like Adwaita or Arc are in synch with the res...

Re: Updates 'seeming' slow?
Thanks. I'm inclined to think so as the processor and RAM I see show no sign of being taxed. All the same it made hard work of installing Gimp just now too. Not playing well with the SSD for some reason maybe? I think I remember the BIOS being pretty sensible-looking. Here's that output: System: Ker...

Re: Updates 'seeming' slow?
Thanks. I've used LXDE and Xfce briefly on the same machine and although the system runs better as expected there is still this lagging feeling during updates.

Updates 'seeming' slow?
I'm not actually a newbie but, partly as I've used the stable Debian release only for quite a while with very little updating being done, returning to Mint for one laptop makes me feel possibly naive about a couple of things. This laptop is a nine years old Lenovo X201 Thinkpad, dual core i5 2.5 ghz...

Linux and SiS 672mx?
There is a 2006 Vista laptop I have and need to move on. It won't run Windows 10 so I want to set it up with one Linux distro or another with as little work as possible, both for me and in terms of panic for the next owner. I remember PCLinuxOS half working a few years ago, but being very slow. Goog...

N4000 chip, Cinnamon and battery readings
I had to send a laptop back a little while ago as it had a few faults, one being a cranky battery, which seemed to lose capacity drastically in a few days, as well as give incomplete data when tested with software, both Windows and Linux. I have bought another, also emmc-based, laptop with a clearly...

Latest kernel, touchpad glitch?
It was a gamble I suppose but I've installed the latest kernel 4.20 in the hope that the hotkey display would work with my pretty new laptop, a Lenovo 120S. Now I'm finding the tapping facility keeps cutting out, seemingly after running Firefox (and only sometimes). I'm turning the touchpad off and ...

Re: Was I limited to 32 bit 19.1?
Thanks. Sorry, yes, to be clear the 4gb is the RAM. The emmc is 32gb. There's very good space on it still. Output says: System: Host: xxxxxx-Lenovo-ideapad-120S-11IAP Kernel: 4.15.0-20-generic i686 bits: 32 compiler: gcc v: 7.3.0 Desktop: Cinnamon 4.0.9 Distro: Linux Mint 19.1 Tessa base: Ubuntu 18....

Was I limited to 32 bit 19.1?
I have installed Linux Mint 19.1 Cinnamon edition on a Lenovo Ideapad 120S. I had struggled with the EUFI business with three previous laptops, all of the type that have emmc drives. The structure of a Linux install iso seems to have changed a bit since I made my first attempts. I think with one of ...

making text files Window-compatible?
I use a text editor a lot, mostly Leafpad, and sometimes use Notepad in Windows to access the same files. At that point their formatting is messed up. I'd like to know if it's possible to alter a configuration file so that my text files are always Windows-compatible without having to edit them again...

Cinnamon panel and Window list has changed? [Solved]
I've just gone back to Mint after a period going between Lubuntu and Windows 10 and am finding Mint 19.1 performing very nicely with one of these emmc laptops. The panel seems to be working differently though, or is set up differently? (Or did I mess something up?) I see that any program running tha...

Anyone here use Blogger?
Hello. I used Blogspot ten years back and remember being able to include tags with my posts but cannot now see how this is done. I've just resumed blogging, and things seem a little bit different. It seemed a lot easier to make oneself visible also when blogging. I've been writing two blogs for my o...

CD ripping speed
Not a complaint at all, and I'm myself not time-poor. But why is ripping a CD with Linux much slower than with Windows Media Player, does anyone here know? Is it anything to do with the historically proprietary nature of mp3 and the role of reverse-engineering, in which case mightn't the software be...

'My anniversary', Mint 18.3, and some babbling
This is my tenth year of distro-hopping, of the Linux/Windows zig-zag and of using Linux Mint. I don’t think I’m speaking too soon to say that I’m now fully satisfied, now using the Cinnamon edition of Linux Mint 18.3. Some of my prior dissatisfaction was really more about my own vices and bad habit...

iPad 2 and Linux compatibility outdated?
Today I've been looking through a few sites explaining how to work with an iPad without iTunes which seem to be out of date. I have the libimobiledevice-utils and ifuse installed but in the file manager though iPad shows up in the left hand pane, there is nothing in it and no way to add anything. At...

Re: shaky video under new Cinnamon?
It's quite a well-equipped pc I'd thought, and I think the card has 1 or 2gb of its own RAM, but I think there may be a couple of badly ripped DVDs that I was testing with. I've defected to Lubuntu for now anyway, till next April when I have a look at what's available again.

Thanks. Yes, I'm afraid that was one of the first things I tried.
