You should make a boot-repair USB, if it fails use a CD/DVD.

Try boot-repair to dual-boot the second HD.

You could try by changing some of the sound controls with alsamixer:

When you installed the printer driver did you have an hp icon in the system tray panel.
If you right click on the hp-systray and choose the (HP Device Manager) has bunch of options including to setup scan.

No worries, the version you have installed LMDE 2 Betsy is debian based mainly for advanced users.
Install the latest release of Linux Mint 18.3 might solve the issue, make a backup of important data first.
