Re: Cinnamon Tweak Tool

Although this tool can be used to change several options in Mint, which I assume you're running, however, this tool, Gnome-Tweak-Tool is used exclusively in Ubuntu Gnome. If you are using Mint 17.3 or higher I would respectfully suggest you stick with the Themes options in Settings.

Re: Does computer with Mint auto-turn-off if vent holes bloc

Technically speaking, the CPU will shut the system down if its threshold temperature is exceeded. In short, if you block the vents and no air is circulated it can cause the CPU to overheat and if this occurs often the CPU can become damaged. One of the most common things I run into as a tech is the ...

Re: Is anyone else having problems with Chrome 35?

Yes, It appears that both Chrome and Chromium have issues with plugins that were developed prior to version 35 definately have issues. After spending some time researching this I couldn't find any info regarding the fix. There was even a hint that since Linux has such a small user base that correcti...

Re: Linux Mint v17 Cinnamon 64 Bit RC to Final?

The way this works, is when the RC is released, updates will come on a regular basis as changes and bugs are fixed. In the end you end up with the final release so there really isn't need to install the final version since you'll have it. However, if you plan to install it on a new system, the final...

Re: Update Manager icon has disappeared from the panel

I too had a similar issue with MInt 17rc, only in my case its was both Update Manager and Synapse. After reading these posts I resolved it by restoring the default settings, I'm using Fedora Glass Theme which is great in Mint 16 but since it was for an earlier version of Cinnamon it is a bit unstabl...

Re: Can't boot Linux Mint after Windows 8.1 Update

dandawg, I wish I had something to say that would help, but to be honest, this is quite common when updating to Windows 8.1. During the update, Windows pretty much nukes your Linux install and takes over the boot process disabling grub altogether. This unfortunately is by design since Microsoft thum...

Re: Linux Mint 17 "Qiana" MATE RC is out!

Great work Clem and Team! I been a long time user of Mint ever since Mint 9 and will always be a supporter of the MInt project because or quality and ease or use. This last week I downloaded and installed MInt 17 and the install went pretty smoothly. As I went about installing my personal apps I did...

Re: Serious bug with Mintstick

I received an update to Mintstick this morning and thought that someone finally fixed the corrupted USB drive problem. However, after making an USB image I found I still couldn't access the USB drive but had to reformat it before I could use it. Does anyone else know of a solution?

Mint Display Manager - Petra

Is it me or has the option in MDM to select an gtkrc file been removed?

In Mint Mint 15 I always liked to use the GTK login screen with a Nodoka-Dark gtkrc2.0 theme.

And although I figured out a work-around, but would really like to see this option put back into the new MDM for Mint 19 Petra

Re: Linux Mint 16 "Petra" Cinnamon RC released!

Just installed Mint 16, and as usual it installed without issues. But to truly evaluate it I installed all of my basic apps even though I had a bit of trouble with Skype but I was able to get it going with the help of a post I found here http://linuxg.net/how-to-fix-the-skype-sound-issue-on-ubuntu-1...

Re: Setting System Clock

It seems that by default Linux uses UTC and will reset the time in the BIOS which can cause problems. As a simple fix, disable UTC time with the following: Open terminal and edit the following file and change the UTC setting from UTC=yes to UTC=no and save the file. sudo gedit /etc/default/rcS UTC=n...

Re: Boot logo

When it comes to Nvidia cards and Mint, sometimes the initial screen resolution needs to be reset if the driver has changed or a different card has been installed. When this happens, the boot logo may no longer be displayed since the resolution has changed so in its place the default ugly text shows...

Re: Backup entire Hard Disk

All the suggestions posted are good ones, but for me personally I use Clonezilla. And although I found it to be a bit intimidating at first, I forced myself to learn how to use it and understand how it works and now I don't use anything else. Clonezilla has so many options for saving partitions or e...

Re: Package removal issue

In many cases apps often share common dependencies and when attempting to remove a package it will also remove other apps with it. The reason I know this, is I too wanted to remove the Bluetooth app but in the end Mint had so many problems. My guess is that this is the case with the apps you want to...

Re: Netflix

Yes, you can install Netflix in Mint 15. I use it all the time in Mint 15, but there is a catch. You can't use Chrome and you must have Firefox installed. I found the following to install Netflix. After you install it, restart and run the Netflix app which will run a Wine install only once for the f...

Re: New User from Texas - Mint 15 Cinnamon

I know it's a couple dats late, but Welcome to Linix Mint. Re: Can't Install, just Live CD

I'm sure you wiped out all the hidden partitions that Windows 8 created from the original install. The reason I point this out, is that when I got my Lenovo laptop I had a similar issue. It seems that Windows 8 doesn't go down without a fight. Might I suggest you use a bootable Gparted Magic USB dis...

Re: Mint 14 Mate got a virus - how to remove?!

As secure as MInt is and the less likely to get a virus, there's always the possibility of getting infected. With every install I do I always include installing ClamAV that adds some protection. To install, open Terminal and type the following to install ClamAV and the gui. sudo apt-get install clam...

'm sorry to hear you are having this problem and unless someone else in the forum can give you a better solution it sounds as though you'll have to do a clean install. Also if you do have to re-install might I suggest you use a program called Clonezilla to back up your entire installation to a secon...
