Re: Greek characters appear in OpenOffice view

Thanks. I'll check the Java version. I know the user has installed all 1,2, and 3 - level updates as of a couple weeks ago. Regarding newer versions of OpenOffice. The OpenOffice.org forum has some instructions on installing version 3.1 using a .deb file they provide. Is that a good idea? http://use...

Greek characters appear in OpenOffice view

Not sure if this is a OpenOffice problem or a Mint issue. The user who is experiencing this has increased her font sizes a lot, due to bad vision. Now, after a couple years, the following problem, with greek fonts appearing where they shouldn't, is surfacing... With viewing of non-printing character...

How do I upgrade Pidgin?

I have a couple friends using Pidgin on Linux-Mint Elyssa.

They need to upgrade to a current version of Pidgin, as they use MSN accounts, and Microsoft has changed the protocol (friends on Windows upgraded to solve the same protocol error message).

How can Pidgin be upgraded on Elyssa?

Re: Software Manager dead after update

I rebooted... but I just now tried that too, but it didn't help. Thanks. EDIT: Synaptic shows I still have version 3.9 of Mintinstall, with latest version being 5.3.6. Mintupdate, however, shows that my system is up to date... ! I upgraded Mintinstall using synaptic and now I have the latest version.

Re: Software Manager dead after update

Ditto :? But if I launch it via MintMenu > Administration > MintInstall, it will launch. When I launch MintInstall this way, I see the small window with three tabs (Linux Mint, removed.net, APT), same as before the update. I was expecting to see the software installer similar to what is included wi...

Software Manager dead after update

I just updated my Mint 5 systems with the new Mint tools released yesterday.

Clicking Elyssa, Software Manager, results in absolutely nothing happening.

I had the same experience on my laptop and my desktop machines. I rebooted after the install. Please advise.

Re: Linux Mint 6 RC1 Bug Thread

Hmm, maybe I have not been clear enough. The problem is that windows don't appear in Linux Mint's taskbar anymore. As you can see on the screenshot below, there is no tabs in the taskbar even though there is 3 different applications already opened... pretty annoying I've seen this on my system, whe...

Re: Howto: Install OpenOffice 3 in Felicia

The install went fine, per the first post of this thread.

My major issue is the terrible screen fonts. I'm relatively new to Mint, but OpenOffice is the only application with this problem. Any more news on this issue? Is there a fix?

Re: Linux Mint 6 RC1 Bug Thread - Partially SOLVED

1. Skype - am unable to get the audio input working, in-spite of trying all possible combinations of configurations within Skype and the audio devices available. I managed to get it working in Ubuntu 8.10 but the identical configuration doesn't work in Felicia. I'm also having trouble with Skype. W...

Re: Firefox upgrade not available

Hmmm... well one day I saw the MintUpgrade lock "unlocked" and FF 3.0.4 was listed as a level "2" upgrade. I now have Firefox 3.0.4 installed. Must have been a fluke... ?

Firefox upgrade not available

The Firefox 3.0.4 upgrade appeared in only one of my three LinuxMint PCs... It was a level "2" option in MintUpdate a few days ago. I looked on the other machines but didn't see any upgrade...

Can someone tell me why my other Mint PCs (with Firefox 3.0.3) don't show v3.0.4 as an upgrade?

Re: GDM is wrong resolution

I appreciate the reply. I made the change (tried -dpi 128 too) but it didn't change the login screen resolution, which remained the same. As a test, I removed the nvidia hardware driver. This fixed the problem, but the entire desktop switched from 1024x768 back to 800x600... Reinstalling the driver ...

Re: GDM is wrong resolution

Didn't help. This change caused the Mint logos during bootup and shutdown to be larger, and no longer centered on the screen as they previously were... hmmm... The gdm is still too large, resulting in the login field being way down in the corner, and the other links below it aren't visible. But the ...

Re: Elyssa menu remains open, synaptic won't run

Fixed. Thanks. The start menu would disappear only after clicking on the desktop, or elsewhere. It wasn't permanently stuck open. So the link you sent had the answer. Both options worked, but #2 made it a permanent fix. There was a blank "button" at the top-left corner of the start menu. A...

GDM is wrong resolution

I recently switched monitors, when my lcd flat panel died. I reverted to a 17" crt. To set it up I simply ran: sudo displayconfig-gtk That seemed to work for everything except the GDM login screen. The login field is way down in the lower-right corner of the screen. Not centered as it should be...

Adding repository - gpg key error solved

I added the google repository, to install the newest Picasa version. Google provides a signing key, but how do I add it into Mint? I downloaded the key and double-clicked on it. Mint said it was imported. I still get an error in synaptic: "The following signatures couldn't be verified because t...

Elyssa menu remains open, synaptic won't run solved

Suddenly, the Elyssa menu began staying open after I selected a program to run. This started after I had trouble running "Package manager." Synaptic refuses to run, and the first time I try to run it after each reboot, this error is displayed: Could not grab your mouse. A malicious client ...
