Re: Latitude D630 wifi not working

Holy crap! A latitude D series.

I haven't seen one of those since I left my second professional job in ~2008

I thought my E6430s was an "old laptop" :p

Warpinator? By design it checks the local network for other machines running Warpinator at launch. Not sure what the protocol used is though. Could be. Either that or someone has snuck something unsavory into the release... Is there a way to remove/uninstall warpinator? There is a warpinator packag...

Re: Why is Mint trying (and failing) to connect to other devices via SNMP?

You can try snmp connect to other devices ,on your localhost and find if it's a problem with SNMP in general or only while connection to the UPS. Maybe I should restate the problem. I have never accessed the UPS from this laptop over any protocol. I have never used SNMP on this laptop. To my knowle...

Why is Mint trying (and failing) to connect to other devices via SNMP?

Hey all, Fairly new install of LMDE on my laptop. Happened to be looking at the log outputs on my old APC UPS I have attached to my server on the same subnet after some power fluctuations. In the logs of the unit I find several entries where it states the IP associated with my laptop has made severa...

What I meant to say: Backports are all ready enabled on LMDE4, for an update of your kernel make : apt update && apt install -t buster-backports linux-image-amd64 -y && apt install -t buster-backports linux-headers-amd64 -y && apt install -t buster-backports firmware-linux firmware-linux-nonfree -y...

Re: Why would I want to use LMDE vs Current LM Cinnamon?

Automatic partitioning put /home in same partition as root on my systems :? For me, it puts EFI first, then root, then swap, then home. I have the same experience as Antikythera. Everything on the same partition. But I didn't install with UEFI thogh, maybe that's the difference. Or, did you choose ...

Re: Why would I want to use LMDE vs Current LM Cinnamon?

I understand LMDE is really more of a "what if" experiment, but I kind of like its more purist approach. I installed it just for fun to test it, but have found it to be very stable and functional. I may just keep it. I don't really feel like I have a reason to go back to the main Ubuntu based Mint a...

Re: LMDE 5

Yeah, Debian 10, Buster was released in July 2019, approximately two years after the previous release of Debian 9, Stretch. LMDE4 Debbie was released 8 months after Buster, in march of this year. So, if things follow the same cadence (but they rarely do, something always happens) Debian 11 Bullseye ...

Invalid Partition Table!

Hey all, I recently installed LMDE 4 on my laptop (An older Dell Latitude E6430s), after previously having Mint 19.3 on it. I installed it using the older (non-UEFI) boot method. As part of the install I told it to wipe the partition table and set up LMDE as a new install. After the install complete...

Re: LMDE 4 64bit ISO, INstaller only in Romanian?

You're not compromised, probably not misconfigured, and your VPN is highly unlikely to be compromised. I have no time for scare-mongers. It's more likely a geolocation issue, as you surmise. Contrary to the opinions of some, IP addresses are portable, so an "US Internal VPN" most certainly can 'tak...

Re: LMDE 4 64bit ISO, INstaller only in Romanian?

Alright. I've done some more troubleshooting and come to the conclusion that if I start the installer BEFORE connecting to my network, it starts in English. If first connect to my network, and then start the installer it starts in Romanian. So it sounds like this is some sort of GEO IP issue. My loc...

LMDE 4 64bit ISO, INstaller only in Romanian?

I mentioned this briefly in the announcements thread here , but I figured it was probably deserving of its own thread. Has anyone else had this problem? I checked and double checked the checksum of the file, and it checks out. fb6fb4f507f1de979a8922f9e503ae0ad8109e87ea1a9a163a6b30f819971256 *lmde-4-...

No, it worked fine here. You may want to verify the checksum of the ISO you downloaded :? Yep, Checked the checksum. It checks out: fb6fb4f507f1de979a8922f9e503ae0ad8109e87ea1a9a163a6b30f819971256 *lmde-4-cinnamon-64bit.iso Did you use the 32 or 64bit ISO? Edit: I have started a separate thread for...

Re: LMDE 4 “Debbie” released!

Is anyone else having strange language problems with the installer?

I tried both expert mode and standard installer, and no matter what I do the installer is in some language I don't recognize.

Some googling suggests it might be Romanian.

Re: Linux Mint 20 “Ulyana” Cinnamon released!

I don't like configuring things using GUI screens. /etc/network/interfaces is the only place I ever want to configure my network devices. I looked at that location, and didn't find any info indicating my network. how are you setting up your network manually there? this is all that I saw: # interfac...

Re: Linux Mint 20 “Ulyana” Cinnamon released!

I'm also hoping I can still use ifupdown. I am not a huge fan of netplan. Netplan in Linux Mint is configured to let NetworkManager do the work so it's essentially disabled. I don't like configuring things using GUI screens. /etc/network/interfaces is the only place I ever want to configure my netw...

Upgrading.... it never ceases to be a controversial issue, which makes it also often rather amusing. There's nothing like a fiery controversy to sharpen the mind and make you feel alive. Well, maybe a big mug of strong hot coffee comes near. My position is clear: for upgrades that entail a ch...

Re: Linux Mint 20 “Ulyana” Cinnamon released!

First off, bravo to the Mint team for resiting the ridiculousness that is snapd. I for one don't want the nightmare of duplication of dependencies, and potentially unpatched (for security) dependencies residing inside 3rd part snaps. Much better to have everything come from the repositories! I'm not...

Any FFMpeg Gurus on here?

Hey all, I'm in the midst of digitizing some old PAL format family camcorder tapes from the 80's. I have an Easy Cap USB device as follows: Bus 007 Device 007: ID 1b71:3002 Fushicai USBTV007 Video Grabber [EasyCAP] Initially I was looking for something similar to the old VirtualDUB software for wind...
