Re: pimping xfce 15

KWin works suprisingly nice with Xfce, that's what I use.

Very easy to do with Synaptic also.

Also consider OpenBox with compton :)

a mint openbox would be epic! What's stopping you? :) rmcellig is halfway there already! Go for it, everything you need is in the repos... openbox takes a lot of configuring. something like crunchbang or manjaro openbox get you off to a nice start. i would like a openbox mint but ive trie...

You don't need one if you're using MDM, that's not the file you need to edit.

Create/edit this one:

Code: Select all

~/.config/openbox/autostart

OK, so I'm guessing you're using MDM?

Did you try adding the autostart file as above?

Re: Lean and mean XFCE 15

If you use

Code: Select all

exec openbox-session
in .xinitrc you can just add anything you want to autostart in openbox to

Code: Select all

~/.config/openbox/autostart
Just remember to put '&' after them:

Code: Select all

tint2 &
nitrogen --restore &

Adding Mint specifics to Ubuntu Minimal KDE?

Hi all, I do realise this is a cheeky question, so please inform me if it breaks any rules and I'll remove it right away... I got a bit impatient waiting for Olivia KDE so I decided to do a custom Ubuntu KDE install using the minimal install to install the base system and only kde-plasma-d...

Re: EXT4 for older Hard Drive causing drive to fail?

I've got to the bottom of this :) It would appear there's something physically wrong with the drive near the end, as when I benchmark the (unformatted) driver it locks up at the same place every time, which is about 2/3rds in. Why badblocks doesn't make it bail I don't know, but this happens each an...

Re: Theme not applying to all apps

Never mind, solved my own issue. It was me being a wally.

I (finally) noticed that it was only apps running as root that were affected and that's when I realised I'd only installed the theme to ~/themes.

Added the theme to /usr/share/themes and we're all good!

[SOLVED] Theme not applying to all apps

Hey again :) I've installed a really nice gtk3 theme which I really like but some apps such as Mint Install, Driver Manager, Gparted and a couple others are not themed and look very Wiindows 95! I guess this is because they're not gtk3 but is there a fix so they can use the theme? Here's a link to t...

EXT4 for older Hard Drive causing drive to fail?

Hey all, LTNS :) I'm having a weird issue with an old Maxtor 500Gb hard drive that completely locks up when formatted to EXT4 in Linux with GParted but works absolutely fine when formatted to NTFS in Windows! And when I say locks up, I mean locks up, it's not even recognised in the BIOS anymore unle...

Re: Re: 2 quick questions

I had similar happen at first with Kubuntu, as I recall it was related to some add-on in my firefox. I uninstalled them one by one till I found the culprit. I don't know why that affected things outside firefox, but did. I wish I could remember the exact one. Interesting, I'll take a look. Thanks S...

Re: So, Mint 15 RC Cinnamon is sucking..

I guess I got lucky. I'm not finding much to trouble me at all, just struggling to get the Netflix PPA to stick. Maybe it's just due to different computers, but I certainly didn't experience what you have. That would have been upsetting. I think the RC release (I'm also using Cinnamon) is beautiful...

Re: 2 quick questions

The Razer Habu seems to have been specifically built for Windows gaming in partnership with Microsoft. Maybe its gazillion of exotic functions are not well supported with a standard mouse driver. Yeah, I think you're right. The fact that it exhibits the same problem across multiple distros rules ou...

Re: How to disable password prompts in Mint 14?

Interesting. My GF found it annoying to keep inputting her password. I do have a quick question tho. Is it just unsafe when other users are on your box? So, if I'm the only user on my desktop box a password isn't really needed anyway? What I mean is, are there any external threats I'd need to be awa...

Re: 2 quick questions

Well, the menu "issue" is still there on Mint 15 RC (Cinnamon).

I'm starting to think it might be my mouse (Razer Habu) but it works fine in Windows *shudder*

It's not a deal breaker but it does get annoying when I accidently click the top item on a menu.

Re: Cinnamon problems

Yeah I has very similar issues when used using the cinnamon from the Ubuntu 13.04 repositories. It would work for a while then crash. Cinnamon --replace brings the panels back but you can't click on them. It'd then report cinnamon has crashed again. I can live with unity until mint 15 :) Sent from m...
