http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2018/01/ubuntu-18-04-lts-will-ship-older-version-nautilus Ubuntu 18.04 LTS will use an older version of Nautilus so that users can put icons on the desktop. I really hope they complete the desktop extension in time to use the latest Gnome+Nautilus in 18.04 release. In the...

Bottom panel overlays rdesktop in full screen

Hi, Can I configure rdesktop full screen so that it sits on top of, rather than underneath the bottom panel? I think it used to do this in 1.x, and may have changed around 2.x My workaround is to have Panel Settings window open at all times and toggle auto-hide on/off. On 2.6.7 the bottom panel chan...

[SOLVED] Performance issue with EOG affecting Cinnamon?

I'm not exactly sure what fixed the problem, but I've done 1. upgraded to Cinnamon 2.6.7 2. emptied trash 3. changed some settings in nemo preview So now I can cycle through images via Image Viewer as fast as I can click or hold down the right arrow key - i.e. its back to normal - whereas previously...

Re: Performance issue with EOG affecting Cinnamon?

It doesn't matter if I copy the zip from NAS to HDD before opening or create a temp folder on HDD and extract the files and open them there as you suggested. It seems to be something relating to processing images - the zip/nas is incidental I think.

Re: Network Connection not working after software update

I'm an idiot. The problem is because I'd added dapper repository to the /etc/apt/sources.list to install JDK5 but forgot to remove it before using the update manager. I checked all the packages and reinstalled the 2 updated from dapper: 1. boot from live dvd 2. perform the chroot 3. reinstalled sudo...
