Re: Keyring password driving me nuts

THANK YOU RICARDO! I had tried everything, and, even after resetting the password to blank a couple of days ago, the login box came back this evening. I followed your instructions, and so far, so good. I'll come back after a few days and mark the thread as solved if nothing untowards happens in the ...

Re: Keyring password driving me nuts

Most people would recommend disabling the keyring password by resetting it and when asked for a new one, leave it blank.
I do that, and the keyring password error eventually comes back, so this is only working through xnumber of reboots, and then I have to do it again.

Re: Keyring password driving me nuts

--password-store=basic
I've done that already, but it comes back after a few reboots. I also tried '--password-store=basic apparently'. I can't figure out why this is happening. What I do know is that I hate keyring and the people that developed it.

Re: Iphone 10 and Mint 19.2 Bluetooth

A follow up question is do Anrdoid's do it? Androids transfer, via bluetooth, with Linux devices, but Idevices and Android devices don't play well together. The only devices Idevices play well with are other Idevices. Apple is locked down tight. Idevices will work with Google Photo and Google Drive...

Keyring password driving me nuts (SOLVED)

A problem has cropped up since I installed Mint 19, which didn't happen with 18.3. I do not want to use keyring, I do not, ever, store passwords and have no use for a keyring to manage what I do not have. I skipped keyring setup at install. Anyway, when I open Chromium or Opera, I get a 'failed to a...

Re: SOLVED--New Install Boots to Windows 10

I might have known if I gave up and asked on the forum that I would stumble into the solution. The ONLY way to make the necessary changes in the BIOS was to enter via GRUB. I tried everything else, bcdedit in Windows, efibootmgr in Linux, and nothing worked, including entering the BIOS via F2 at boo...

Re: New Install Boots to Windows 10

Too new. I prefer my distros to be 'aged' a bit and have the kinks worked out. Mint 20 Xfce was released 4 months ago.

SOLVED--New Install Boots to Windows 10

I've been running Mint 18 for years on an Acer laptop and decided to upgrade because 18 is near EOL, so I did a clean install of 19. The only reason I have Win10 on this laptop at all is because I have a professional program that requires a proprietary comm cable that has no Linux drivers (none that...

Re: Linux Mint 19.2 XFCE will not shut down properly

I don't know if this helps, but I had the same problem with an Acer Aspire and Mint 18.3 with xfce. What worked was to first 'Logout'. After logout the log-in screen appears and there is a button in the upper right corner which brings up a shutdown dialog. When I did that the Aspire would shutdown a...

Re: PC does not fully shutdown from Linux

I had a shutdown problem with my laptop running 18.3 and the 4.13 kernel. I tried every solution that I could think of and none worked, but the issue eventually resolved itself after a software update (not a kernel update). I did discover a workaround that might work for you, at least it is worth a ...

Re: Touchpad stops working

Boot into your bios and look for a hardware setting for the trackpad. You will likely find a box that has something similar to 'Advanced' checked. Change that by ticking the box for 'basic' and reboot.

Re: fresh mint xfce 19 oem install boots to initramfs

I'll take a stab at the problem. This is from my notes when it happened to me with 18.3. Type: (initramfs)exit You might get a return resembling this: /dev/sda1: Unexpected ...... fsck exited ........ The root filesystem on /dev/sda1 requires manual fsck BusyBox v1.22 ...... (intramfs) ... means fol...

Re: Shutdown does not complete

What happens if, instead of choosing "shutdown" from the menu you choose "logout"? When you return to the login screen choose the 'power button' in the upper right corner and then choose "quit" from the dropdown menu. From the popup window that appears, then choose &quo...

Re: Dual Boot 17.1 and 18.3 corruptions on 18.3

My understanding is that the AMD Radeon driver supplied by AMD will not work with Mint 18.x.-- Only the open source driver is compatible.

Am I missing something??

Re: Touchpad Stops Working Linux Mint 18.3 Mate Spin Live DVD

I guessed you had an Acer laptop. Enter your bios and look for a setting for the touchpad. I believe that you will find that there is one, and that the default setting is "Advanced". Change it to "Basic" and save and exit. The exact thing happened to me (xfce Mint) and prevented ...

Re: Shutdown reboots system instead

Sorry for the late reply, but yes, file a bug report. When a kernel breaks a working system it indicates that there is a problem with the kernel, likely kernel drivers. The developers do want to know when something that has been working breaks with the new kernel.

Re: System does not turn off

To access the grayed-out areas of the Acer bios requires that you set a BIOS password. Once you set a password you can access the grayed-out choices--but never, ever forget that password. Just out of curiosity, instead of choosing the 'Shut Down' option from the logout menu, instead choose to 'Logou...

Re: Upgrade Mint 17.3 to Mint 18.3 possible?

If you have enough space on your HD, you can install dual boot, Mint 17 and Mint 18 and boot with the Mint 18 grub. Eventually you can copy files from the 17 install to 18 and then use Gparted to repartion, shrink and expand partitions. I've done it and this assures that I still have a working syste...

Re: Shutdown reboots system instead

Does the problem go away when you revert to the 4.13 kernel? Hold down the SHIFT key when booting and then choose the older kernel. If the problem goes away file a bug report.

Re: Can't access bios at start up, cannot complete install.

Mint won't prevent Ubuntu from installing. Is this a dual boot machine with Windows? If so, I'd guess that Windows has been installed in Legacy mode, which forces Linux into Legacy Mode and you wouldn't be able to install Linux UEFI without re-installing Windows. Windows will lock UEFI out if it was...
