Re: Linux Mint AND Arch Linux
Rather than 'pure' Arch, I suggest either Manjaro or EndeavourOS, preferably as a virtual machine using VirtualBox as the Virtual Machine Manager. Both run very well as virtual machine guests with Mint as the host. Both are rock solid, and either one would be a decent daily driver--but try them out ...

Re: Can't go back to windows 10
Depending on what programs you want, Windows 10 runs fine as a Virtual Machine. I prefer VirtualBox. All you need is that W10 .iso, and W10 doesn't require a registered copy. Without registering, you lose the ability to set your desktop eye candy and get a nag for registering, but programs install a...

Re: Would linux mint create another entry in my BIOS?
Maybe or maybe not. Acer's with an Insyde uefi can be a little different. After install, you won't have an entry (only Windows Boot Loader) that will boot. If you have one of those uefi, there will be items 'greyed out'. To enable the mint efi, you will have to create a BIOS ADMINISTRATOR password. ...

Re: Cannot install to Windows 10 laptop
If you absolutely do not need Windows, and you intend to delete it, definitely turn off bitlocker BEFORE eliminating Windows. My own recommendation is the same as the one in the provided link. Reducing the space for Windows and dual booting is reasonable if you have a system that is supported and wo...

It's possible.

Re: Force legacy boot on old iMac to address Radeon driver issues
Macs don't have a bios -- they are strictly uefi, and the only way to enter the uefi is if you are doing it from macOS/OSX. There is no 'legacy' bios mode. And, since 2007 or so, all macs have been 64 bit, even if the efi is listed as 32-bit. Any 64-bit system can boot on them without reverting to t...

Re: <SOLVED> Why is dual-boot not recommended by many?
Actually, you missed the option of installing VirtualBox (or VMWare) in Windows, and then installing linux as a Virtual Machine. Yes, there is a learning curve, but it isn't too bad. VBox is the easiest, but VMWare is the most versatile. I use VB whenever possible, but for some things VMWare definit...

Re: Cannot boot from Linux Mint 21.3 live USB.
The OpenSuse iso does not have mmx64.efi but MokManager.efi instead I have no iron installs of OpenSuse (only VM), and I was not aware of this. What that leads me to believe, is that the uefi is looking not just at the name of the .efi, but at the CONTENTS of an .efi mok manager file, and if that d...

Right-click on the desktop and Create a launcher and point it to the executable instead of just copying the file to the desktop.

wl is the linux wifi driver for all macbooks before 2016, and maybe after. It isn't a driver issue if the kernel wl is installed.

Or use a different browser until mint gets around to updating.
I have a bunch of VMs, and mint is the ONLY one that hasn't updated to firefox 124. I cannot recall that ever happening before this.

Are you using ubuntu Mint or LMDE? How did you get that particular driver installed? You should have tethered and used the Mint Driver Manager. I've never done a HW install of LMDE (I don't like Cinnamon), so I'm not familiar with apple Debian Mint installs. With ubuntu Mint, on a 2012 macbook, your...

Re: Secondary drive resizing in Virtual Box
When I had something similar happen, I increased the vm size. Then, I downloaded the Gparted.iso and loaded that into the virtual CD drive. With the virtual CD in first boot position I booted my VM with gparted, and then used gparted to increase the size of my partition into the free space created w...

Re: Cannot boot from Linux Mint 21.3 live USB.
What a mess this is...... It appears that some uefi (not all) are looking for mmx64.efi in the EFI boot Path, and if it isn't there boot breaks. mmx64.efi is the MOK utility for managing the M achine O wner K ey. If it fails to boot because of a 'bad' signature, it is supposed to offer to sign GRUB ...

Re: Update Manager suggests updates to me every day
Linux updates are relatively unobtrusive, and they can be ignored until you're ready. The only time an update requires a reboot is for a new kernel, and you get to choose when. All that is unlike Windows, which forces updates and will hang your machine, usually at shutdown or startup, while it insta...

Well? Did a roll-back fix it? Or did you reinstall, and if so, did that fix it? If the latter, did you clean-install 21.3?

Re: mmx64.efi not found
The invalid link is in the EDGE .iso (or was, don't know about now). Edge is for recent hardware. I don't have a 21.3 boot usb, but the 21.2 contains mmx64.efi Using Ventoy, you can try both -- or all 3 -- without making a boot usb for each one. I haven't seen any need to update 21.2 to 21.3 because...

Re: mmx64.efi not found
You appear to be experienced enough to know that you aren't attempting to boot efi on a computer set for Legacy. On your efi boot usb, EFI/boot/ should contain 3 files: bootx64.efi grubx64.efi mmx64.efi Anything else and your usb drive isn't the way it should be. Your screenshot shows a 32-bit efi b...

You can also turn 'Auto refresh' to 'off', and the updater won't check for updates until you open it and manually choose 'refresh'.

Re: Please help me understand how live usb runs fine, but graphics don’t work with install.
The problem with old Radeon gpus and a modern linux distribution (and especially, ubuntu-derived distros). I'm guessing that you booted your live usb in 'compatibility mode', where, as you say, it 'worked fine'. The video output can be made to work with ubuntu/mint, but it isn't for the faint of hea...
