Re: Write a script to edit a txt file ?

Hi there, Another option is awk. Then you don't need so many confusing backslashes. Awk splits the input lines into fields. The default field separator is whitespace, but for this file, set it to : Then each line will just have 2 fields, and you just print them in reverse order. (I'm assuming that ...

Re: How to install software on Linux Mint

You might want to add a mention of aptitude, as well as a short summary of its advantages over apt-get (namely better dependency management i believe) :)

Adding this link to my link directory.

Re: If you had ONE request for the Cinnamon devs what would

I would want the old mint 11 menu to be implemented in cinnamon by default. :) Its currently known as classic menu, but it is only installable through the CInnamon Extras PPA.

Re: Mint 13 + indicator-multiload = :(

I loaded Mint 13 (Cinnamon, classic "two panel" mode) x64 into vbox and, when I installed indicator-multiload, it displayed it -really- small. I added "Memory" and "Network" and it shrunk smaller (cramming it into one “box” or “space” on the panel). Is there a way to adjust this somehow? I’ve not h...

Install Linux Mint without usb, cd or partitioning?

All my thumbdrives no longer worked and my computer doesn't have a CD drive. Fortunately there was a Ubuntu LiveUSB thumdrive which I used to partition my hard drive. However after using frugal install in unetbootin and installing Linux Mint on another partition, I screwed up my system. I managed to...

Re: Linux Mint Wiki

Maybe we should just start an unofficial one and then if Mint decide they want a Wiki again, it can be handed over to the official site? Edit: done :D https://sites.google.com/site/mintwiki/ Now it only needs contents! Didn't you have one at wikia? Anyway skipping that part, your wiki looks rather ...

They probably only require single monitor setups. Its hard to read your code across a high definition monitor, let alone 2 of them.

Help! I'm becoming an Ubuntu user again, need the support and guidance of the group :D 12.04 with Cinnamon and Gnome Shell is excellent so far and generally suits me better than Mint 13 with Cinnamon. If only you could have the refinement, polish and dev man hours of Ubuntu and the short distance b...

Lol, no need to look at my script unless you want to. I'm just posting it in case anyone wants it. Of course I want to see your script. :p My only question is, what is the purpose to using sudo on almost every line that requires root privileges? Why can't the users of the script just run the script...

Perhaps include script header that automatically makes the script run from the terminal if not started from there (and it pauses after complet...

Re: I need help with this script

Might be that summation can't handle the fractional part? Test that by printing the value of $average (and shouldn't that be $sum instead ) inside your loop, to see if it gets updated correctly with each iteration of the loop. Lol, thanks for pointing that out. :D Here's my current code: #!/b...

Re: I need help with this script

Okay, so that is the bit inside the for loop needing some work. How about this; #Gets the previous sentence previous=$(grep "^ Timing buffered disk reads:" log.tmp | sed 's/^.* = //' | sed 's/ .*$//') That command finds a line like: Timing buffered disk reads: 574 MB in 3.01 seconds = 190.88 MB/sec...
