Re: HDD to SSD Clone question...?

Just spent like 30 mins looking for an answer to this and can't really find any that are definitive. I am going on the assumption that the drives I have are new enough to do what they need to do automatically, but TRIM is a function of the OS and I cannot, for the life of me, find out whether the cu...

Re: HDD to SSD Clone question...?

Thanks!

The three SSDS - one is a 256GB Samsung MZ-YTE2560 from 2015, the other is a 240GB Toshiba-OCZ TR150 from 2016, and the last is a 120GB Kingston A400 from 2017 or so.

I would likely be putting one of the two 200GB SSDs in - probably the Samsung.

Re: HDD to SSD Clone question...?

1) If you want to keep the original rotating rust drive plugged in, yes. The two devices cannot have the same UUID. Either you must format the HDD or change its UUID after cloning. 2) Your knowledge is outdated. Wear was a problem back in the dark ages of SSDs. Modern SSDs do a very good job of wea...

Re: HDD to SSD Clone question...?

Just reading through that linked article....is all that stuff really necessary for Firefox and Chrome? I have a Win10 desktop PC with SSD OS drive (and mechanical data drive) that I leave running 24/7 (the machine doesn't go to sleep) with Firefox open with 10-20 tabs constantly. The drive has been ...

Ah, OK. Then I might just ignore it for now. I've never had any issue with the old tray icon app.

Thanks!

Re: XApp System Report error?

It says what it is, but says nothing about what to do about it: "HiDPI Support HiDPI support is almost complete: It is supported in all Linux Mint 19.3 editions and, with the exception of Hexchat and Qt5Settings, by all the applications which are included by default. Thanks to XappStatusIcon, system...

XApp System Report error?

Just completed my upgrade from Mint 19.2 to Mint 19.3 All went fine and all is working well, but this new 'System Reports' thing is giving me this error? Screenshot at 2019-12-23 14-39-03.png I've got the same stuff on the taskbar that was default to Mint in 19.2, so I don't understand what has magi...

Re: HDD to SSD Clone question...?

Spinny to SSD, was a Win8 laptop, so it's new enough I don't think there would be any BIOS config that would need to be done.

Only just realized 19.3 is out, so just finished upgrading, thanks for the reminder!

HDD to SSD Clone question...?

Hi all - I have Mint 19.2 64-bit MATE currently installed on my HP laptop. I've got some SSDs laying around and am contemplating cloning the install to one of the SSDs to speed the laptop up a bit....BUT...two questions: 1. Do I need to change any settings after the clone or will Mint automatically ...

Re: Windows network shares timing out?

An update - I've tried adding this to the smb.conf file under the Global section as was suggested on a few forum threads I'd found, but to no avail... client max protocol = SMB3 That should probably be min , not max . Just tried this - on restart it works fine once, but then once I unmount the shar...

Windows network shares timing out?

Hi all - I've got 2 folders shared over the network from my Windows 10 machine. They've always worked perfectly, but lately any time I try and connect to them from any of my Linux Mint 19.2 machines (my laptop or my spare desktop), they just time out with this error: Screenshot at 2019-10-13 11-52-5...

[SOLVED] Any way to downgrade packages?

Hi all - I installed updates the other day which I neglected to notice included an update for VLC Media Player to the latest 3.0.8. However, that version has issues with .MOV file playback (sound stuttering) as mentioned in the following link - I discovered them when I updated VLC on my Win10 deskto...

Re: Single speaker sound output - Acer Aspire 5742

Hi MrEen - sorry for the slow replies - didn't have a chance to try this last night and headed to work now. I'll take a gander when I get home! Re: Single speaker sound output - Acer Aspire 5742

Found it, it didn't do what I wanted to...all that Linux balance does, apparently, is turn one channel's volume down or the other....as in, if I slide the Balance slider from the middle to 'Left Channel', it does not fade both channels to the left speaker, but merely turns down the right speaker so ...

Thanks for the reply - I see nothing similar for Balance anywhere in MATE....maybe I'll have to use Cinnamon on it just to get a balance slider!

Re: Single speaker sound output - Acer Aspire 5742

Drivers are up to date - I'm using 19.2 MATE, but don't see a balance adjust in the sound settings anywhere?
