Re: Single speaker sound output - Acer Aspire 5742

Is there a way to have it switch back and forth by clicking on an icon? Re: Single speaker sound output - Acer Aspire 5742

Hi MrEen - sorry for the slow replies - didn't have a chance to try this last night and headed to work now. I'll take a gander when I get home! To clarify, will this mean I'll have to run the command to switch between mono and duplex every time I switch between using headphones and the computer spea...

Re: Single speaker sound output - Acer Aspire 5742

Found it, it didn't do what I wanted to...all that Linux balance does, apparently, is turn one channel's volume down or the other....as in, if I slide the Balance slider from the middle to 'Left Channel', it does not fade both channels to the left speaker, but merely turns down the right speaker so ...

Re: Single speaker sound output - Acer Aspire 5742

Thanks for the reply - I see nothing similar for Balance anywhere in MATE....maybe I'll have to use Cinnamon on it just to get a balance slider!

Re: Single speaker sound output - Acer Aspire 5742

Drivers are up to date - I'm using 19.2 MATE, but don't see a balance adjust in the sound settings anywhere?

Single speaker sound output - Acer Aspire 5742

Hi all, this is going to be an odd post in this day and age, but here we are! I was recently given an Acer Aspire 5742 laptop from 2010 with 4GB RAM and an Intel Core i3 processor. It was the budget-est of budget laptops, so not a powerhouse, but still a very usable daily laptop even still. I had to...

Re: LibreOffice update error?

We had tried that and it hadn't worked.

We actually got it working yesterday - I got him to delete the two PPA entries with the '?' in the title for LibreOffice and remove the underscore from the 'libreoffice' entry and all seems well now!

Re: LibreOffice update error?

Screenshot from his Package Source list. I told him to try deleting the ones with question marks in the title and to delete the underscore from the 'libreoffice' listing.

We'll see what he says!

Not sure - I asked him to take a screenshot and email it to me, so hopefully I will have that to see tomorrow.

Re: LibreOffice update error?

That's the thing - that's exactly what he did!

Added the PPA via that command, then sudo apt-get update, then ran the Update Manager...but every time he updates now, he gets that error...

[SOLVED] LibreOffice update error?

Hi all, I have a client with a Mint 18.3 MATE desktop. We recently added the Libreoffice PPA to his machine so he could update his old 5.something version to the most recent one. We managed to get it to update, but now every time he runs Mint Update, he gets the following... thumbnail_Screenshot at ...

You're both right, but weirdly that extension isn't there.....is there a way to re-download it separately?

[SOLVED] Right-clicking picture has no 'Set As Wallpaper' option?

Hi all, I have a Mint 19.2 MATE desktop and a Mint 19.2 MATE laptop. On the laptop, I can set any picture as a wallpaper by right-clicking on it and then selecting 'Set as wallpaper'. However, on my Mint 19.2 MATE desktop, there is no such option? I can still set wallpapers by opening the picture in...

Re: Mint 19 Upgrade - Vino gone?

Oddly, it opposite is true for me!

Every machine I've tried to set x11VNC up on and then remotely connect to, I've had nothing but issues (black screens, etc). Yet with Vino, everything works fine! So, in my case at least, for some reason, Vino is the one I prefer for that reason!

Re: [SOLVED] HDMI Audio was working, now not and listed as 'unplugged'?

I'll try and take a look tonight, but FYI I tried the latest 5.0 kernel for the hell of it and everything worked....except the HDMI audio. Went back to 4 -50 and all was well again!

Re: [SOLVED] HDMI Audio was working, now not and listed as 'unplugged'?

I could be up for trying then...I'll have to see if I am busy! I still think it might be a kernel issue. I've tried kernel -51, -52, and -54 and they all list the HDMI audio as disabled, etc as I stated in my original post, but the second I go back to kernel -50 or older, it works perfectly again......

Was just on -54....same issue. That's what prompted me to post here again. Back to -50 I go for now!

Re: [SOLVED] HDMI Audio was working, now not and listed as 'unplugged'?

Just adding to this thread because with the update to the -52 Kernel, this issue still persists. If you stick with the -50 kernel, HDMI Audio still works fine!

Thought I would add this in case others are having the same issue!
