Re: Mint 19.1 MATE Resolution issue...?

I would've been in high school in the early 2000s, haha. I was working at the Mahone Bay and Lunenburg Tim Hortons, so there is a good chance I may have even inadvertently met you at some point! :) Thanks for the help - once we get the room set back up and I get the computer connected up to the TV, ...

Re: Mint 19.1 MATE Resolution issue...?

Small world! Do you remember the names of those folks? I know a few brits in town who run B&Bs, or at least used to, haha! Again, small world, haha! It is quite a nice place - hope you make it back to visit sometime! :D Yes, the commands you provided seem to do the trick. Does this mean, however, if...

Mint 19.1 MATE Resolution issue...?

Hi all - having a bit of an odd issue here. I have a spare desktop PC that works fine - Intel Core 2 Duo, 6GB RAM, Mint MATE 19.1 MATE 64-bit, etc. I also have a Dell 1704FTP 17-inch monitor. These two have always cooperated no problem. 1280x1024 is the max. res. of the monitor so that is what I alw...

Re: Hibernation option in Linux mint 19.1

I tend to make my swapfiles slightly larger than my RAM just in case - i.e. 8GB of RAM with a 9GB swapfile, or 4GB RAM with 5GB swapfile, etc.

Re: Hibernation option in Linux mint 19.1

Maybe I misunderstand Hibernate, but isn't Hibernate's purpose to copy whatever is in RAM to the hard drive, then shut down the computer, then on computer start back up, recopy everything that WAS in RAM that had been saved to the hard drive back to RAM again so it's as if nothing had changed? If t...

Re: Hibernation option in Linux mint 19.1

Unrelated to helping, but was just reading this thread and noticed Pierre's comment. Just asking a general question to increase my knowledge! :) Maybe I misunderstand Hibernate, but isn't Hibernate's purpose to copy whatever is in RAM to the hard drive, then shut down the computer, then on computer ...

Getting Epson Perfection V370 Scanner fully working under Mint 19.1 MATE?

Hi all - trying to help a lady set up her new Epson Perfection V370 scanner under Mint MATE 19.1 64-bit. I've done all of the following and reached a point where all scanning programs will recognized the scanner and successfully scan from the scanner's flatbed, but we receive errors when we try to s...

Re: Upgrade path from Mint 18.3 to Mint 19.1?

@Pierre - The drives on both laptops are set up with a main EXT4 partition and then an extended partition with swap partition within. Ah, maybe it gets a bit more messy, but things all seem to still work perfectly and be no slower than they always used to be on my own laptop (the one I had done the ...

Upgrade path from Mint 18.3 to Mint 19.1?

Hi all - in the past I had upgraded my HP laptop from Mint 18.3 to 19 through the Terminal commands, and then from 19 to 19.1 using the Update Manager awhile back. That being said, my mother's older Emachines laptop, as well as my brother's Acer laptop are still running Mint 18.3. I would like to up...

Third update...

I decided to unplug the webcam and plug it back in while the computer was running to see what I would get from dmesg:

This seems like it could be a hardware failure...anybody else have any other ideas?

Re: Acer Aspire webcam not working in Mint 19.1 MATE 64-bit?

A bit more info - just checked in dmesg after a cold boot and I saw this: Screenshot at 2019-01-02 17-25-06.jpg Could this be the webcam trying to be activated but failing? Any way to solve this? I had read somewhere to try loading the uvcvideo module, so I ran: sudo modprobe uvcvideo Which seemed t...

Acer Aspire webcam not working in Mint 19.1 MATE 64-bit?

Hi all - just did a fresh install of Mint 19.1 MATE 64-bit on an Acer Aspire 5732Z laptop for an elderly lady. All is working perfectly except Cheese, nor Skype nor VLC will show the webcam. Skype and Cheese just say 'No Device Found'. There are no BIOS settings whatsoever for the camera, so I know ...

Mint 19 64-bit MATE - Laptop won't go to sleep on battery?

Hey all, having a sleep issue with my HP laptop running Mint 19.1 MATE 64-bit. In the Power Management Preferences, it's set to go to sleep on battery after 10 minutes and shut off the display after 1 minute of idle. The display shut off DOES work fine and if I am not using the laptop, the screen wi...

They weren't showing up in Appearance though, that was the issue, so I had no way to use them. The icon set is showing up in /.icons, but wasn't showing up in Appearance. That being said, the issue fixed itself after a restart and they are now showing up properly in the Appearance settings...weird t...

[SOLVED] Oomox Custom Exported Iconset installation?

Hi all! I've made a few themes for my personal system that I really like with Oomox and they show up in the Appearance settings options under my Mint 19 MATE install where I can select and use them, no problem...BUT, I am having an issue with the iconsets I export? Despite exporting them, they do no...

Re: Script to re-enable mouse on boot?

Hi all - thanks for all the suggestions, but I managed to solve it. I had been trying (and failing) to update the BIOS as well in the background of the touchpad issue, but hadn't mentioned it to you folks. To do so, I had cloned my Linux install to an external drive and temporarily installed Win7 32...
