Re: All Desktop Screenshots of 2021

Haha, nice! This is a great forum....ask away whenever you have questions or need help! :P

Here's my current desktop setup to stay on topic! I run a customized version of the 'Minimalis' theme in Conky, with a nice setup of Cairo Dock at the far right :)

Re: All Desktop Screenshots of 2021

Nice to have another join the fold! Unlike many, I have no issues with Windows, personally (my main desktop PC runs Win10), but I've had Mint on my laptop since 2012 and I have MX Linux on my other mini laptop. It's just fun to tinker with it! Check out Cool Retro Term if you want a cool-looking Ter...

Another interesting option is:

Code: Select all

sudo inxi -v8 > fullinxi
Now you have a text file with the most information that you can get out of inxi. It will not update itself, but it is a good reference for things that will not change.
Thanks, good to know! :)

Take a look at System Reports, already on Menu and easily added to Panel. Has included an inxi report since Mint 19.2.
Oh, nice, I didn't know this!

Re: Create launcher or menu shortcut for inxi info?

I'm running Mint MATE, so I use the MATE Terminal....and also cool-retro-term for funsies once and awhile :)

That first command you mentioned would be good as I would set it up as a shortcut on my Cairo Dock. How would I create one for cool-retro-term or mate-terminal? :)

Create launcher or menu shortcut for inxi info?

Hi all - I have MX Linux on my small laptop and love the 'quick system info' feature they have that lets you run inxi -Fxxxrza from the Menu that helpfully and quickly opens a Terminal window with all your system info until you press a key to close it. How would I go about creating a similar launche...

Re: Mounting Mac OSX drive fails?

Never mind - managed to solve it! :)

Ran this command, after which it mounts for read-only fine! :)

Code: Select all

 mint@mint ~ $ sudo fsck -fy /dev/sdb2

[SOLVED] Mounting Mac OSX drive fails?

Hey all - I have a friend whose young daughter spilled water on her older Macbook Pro....which has killed it quite dead. That being said, the hard drive survived and she asked me if I could take a look and get any files off. I don't have a Mac, but I know Mint can read from Apple HFS+ file systems b...

Re: Doing a Clonezilla clone backup of my Mint 20 install before upgrading to 20.1, noticed this error fly past?

"I'm assuming you mean that you restored the apparently-failed backup to the external HDD, not the internal SSD for which the backup was made." No, I cloned a working install to the external HDD, noticed that error when it was near done cloning, but on reboot, without me touching anything,...

Re: Doing a Clonezilla clone backup of my Mint 20 install before upgrading to 20.1, noticed this error fly past?

Nope, no encryption! I've used CZ for years as well with no issues! This is a perfectly working, 100% error-free install on my HP TouchSmart 14 laptop that was running Mint 20 MATE....I just wanted to do a backup clone before I tried the upgrade to Mint 20.1 in case there were issues! I just booted ...

I didn't need to use the backup as the Mint 20.1 upgrade went fine....but I wanted to keep it around in case I ever needed it! :(

It's weird though...I was cloning a known good, perfectly booting install.....why would GRUB fail to be installed on the clone?

Doing a Clonezilla clone backup of my Mint 20 install before upgrading to 20.1, noticed this error fly past?

Hi all, Decided to try and do the 20.1 upgrade today from my current Mint 20 MATE install. I decided I'd do a clone from my current SSD to my old hard drive in case something goes wrong so I could just clone back a functioning, booting operating system with all my settings, apps and files still in p...

Re: Terminal command or program to batch remove illegal filename characters?

Thanks for the reply! I just got back the lady's house whose laptop I was working on, but no longer need help! :)

I actually remembered the name of the program I was thinking of - it's detox, and is available in the Software Manager! :)

[SOLVED] Terminal command or program to batch remove illegal filename characters?

Hey all, I'm working on someone's PC running Linux Mint 19 that crashed. I'm trying to back all of her stuff up to an external hard drive, but somehow a lot of her documents and folders have illegal characters like colons and the file names. Is there a terminal command or a program I could run that ...

Trying to get an old webcam working...

Hi all - I have an old webcam I had picked up at Walmart years ago that I am trying to get working for a project. From what I can tell, it has a Sonix SN9C102 chipset and shows up with the lsusb command as 'Microdia Triplex i-mini PC Camera' https://i.imgur.com/dzxf4pz.png I remember testing it a ye...

Mini PCIE to Desktop PCIE adapter card?

Hi all! I have an old Intel full-height PCIE WiFi adapter sitting around from an old Acer laptop. It works fine, as far as I know! Rather than having to use one of my USB adapters in my HTPC desktop running Mint 19.3, I thought I might look into one of those desktop cardslot adapters that would let ...
