Re: Permanently set CPU governor to 'Performance'?

Thanks @motoryzen - that did the trick and helped....not as much as I'd like, but every little bit helps I guess!

Permanently set CPU governor to 'Performance'?

Hi all - I have an ancient Toshiba Satellite C650D with the terrible AMD E350 CPU. It's not my main machine, I mostly use it for light tasks in my workshop...but in an effort to make it a BIT more usable, I'd like to set the CPU to run at max speed all the time. I looked in the BIOS and there is no ...

Re: TLP Battery thresholds not working?

Actually managed to sort it out - turns out there was a module that I had to install for TLP to start working. Seems all good now - thanks for the reply! :)

[SOLVED] TLP Battery thresholds not working?

Hi all - I was thinking of ways to maintain the life of the replacement battery in my Thinkpad T520 running the latest version of Mint MATE. I tried installing TLP earlier today and setting the stop_charge_thresh (the stop charging threshold) on my battery to 80% and I also set the start_charge thre...

Shutdown button grayed out in XFCE?

Hi all - fresh install of Mint XFCE on an older Acer laptop. Setting it up for an elderly gentleman and his wife. Only installed Mint, updated it, copied his file to it, and installed a few apps. Had it on for 3-4 hours last night doing several restarts/shutdowns and everything was PERFECT last nigh...

Re: Screen has started going to sleep when watching videos on battery?

How long is it well watching a movie that the screen turns off?? 1 minute, or 10?? 1 minute. As I said in my original post, it's now acting as if the machine is idle and not taking account that a video is playing where it used to work perfectly and only put the display to sleep if the machine was l...

Screen has started going to sleep when watching videos on battery?

Hi all - titles says it all. On my older Lenovo Thinkpad T520, I've started to have an issue with the screen going to sleep when I am watching Youtube/Netflix/Amazon, etc videos. I've had Mint MATE on this machine for several years now and I've never had this issue before. I am not sure what update ...

Mic only works after muting and unmuting?

Hi all - strange issue with mom's older Toshiba Satellite L650 laptop currently running Mint 20.3 MATE. Basically, all is well, except the internal mic on her laptop acts strangely. Basically, on a fresh restart or power-up, the mic does not work AT ALL unless you go into PulseAudio and mute, then i...

Re: Linux GUI FTP Server?

Usermode FTP Server as billyswong is very friendly with a simple GUI. Just a bit heavy to download (like 1gb) Why don't you just setup a shared folder with samba instead? Or you need remote access to the server from the internet? Because the version of MacOS he has on his old Powerbook G4 does not ...

Re: Linux GUI FTP Server?

On Windows he would start and stop the server VERY easily from the Start Menu with the 'Start Filezilla Server' and 'Stop Filezilla Server' commands Filezilla is available on Mint: apt install filezilla but this is a CLIENT only. Filezilla Server is also available for Linux, not in the repositories...

Linux GUI FTP Server?

Hi all - I'm looking for a lightweight and easy FTP server that has GUI controls. Essentially, I'm looking for my older uncle. He's not SUPER tech-savvy, but he's pretty good for his age and use case. He's been running Windows 7 on an older laptop and using Filezilla FTP Server that I'd set up for h...

Re: [SOLVED] Dell latitude E6500 not shutting down correctly?

Fantastic! I bought a Dell Latitude E6330 at the start of COVID for around $100. It's been an excellent Linux laptop. Yes, there are a lot of older laptops that most people would give up for dead that are still perfectly capable for modern use even considering their age if you give them a nice soli...
