Re: MATE vs. Cinnamon, which is more likely to continue?

I used MATE until the beginning of 2013. Received a present @ Christmas for my Ivy Bridge build, an Intel SSD. Went to install and decided to go with Cinnamon this time - and haven't looked back. Little nags that fixed themselves after installing Cinnamon like media keys not working on my Logitech k...

Re: WHY WHY WHY

Sorry you had problems with your hardware. Installing Linux on your setup has never been easier - it does require thought and a little work. Checking to see if your hardware is Linux compatible is very easy. Lots of people have posted their setups all over the internet and finding MB, GPU, printers,...

Re: Mint Overtakes Ubuntu for #1 spot

I think Mint 12 will be very, very popular. The numbers of people who've been writing about Unity as if it's a disease has to make one laugh. I tried Unity for a week, and the "gnome shell", for an hour....All I could do was think to myself, "NOW I'm ready for Mint 12". Unity's not that bad, I just ...

Re: Ubuntu 11.04 Released

Less than great experience with 11.04 here. The change to Natty is a lot to take, but deciding to run 2.32 gnome version without extra graphics still caused several problems for me. Biggest issue was with "ghosting" on my intel graphics both inside applications and on panels. Have had sound issues a...

Re: Minting the Mom

Letting Mom sit with her broken xp (and without her email) until I could get back home did it for her. Viruses are nasty and have made several linux converts out there. Did a linux compatible new homebuild setup and she has been happy ever since. Mom had boxes from UPS magically show up before the h...

ZaReason Now Selling PCs with Linux Mint 8

More good news I thought I would share. You've been able to order Desktops and Laptops from ZaReason, a Linux Hardware shop near San Fransisco with Ubuntu installed for a while. The option of also having "Linux Mint 8" installed as your Operating System choice when ordering online is now available. ...

Re: Web cam support?

The site below lists some of the webcams with good linux support. Stick with a UVC compatible webcam if possible.
My Logitech E3500 is a little old, but is UVC - the audio and camera work perfectly.

Re: Helena KDE CE update

Great here, wireless, sound, all functions working. Running it for a couple of hours now on 5 year-old dell laptop. Used karmic USB creator from ubuntu desktop, installed perfectly w flash drive. KDE 4.3.4 seems so much better than what I tried only a few months ago. I was running crunchbang on this...

Re: Next LTS edition

Does anyone know when the next LTS edition is going to be released?
Ubuntu 10.04 LTS "Lucid Lynx" is scheduled to be released at the end of April 2010.
If we go by the past, Mint 9 LTS will be released, when it's ready sometime after the release of Lucid.

Re: Mint 7 - Disable Fortunes in the terminal?

open terminal and type:

gksu gedit /etc/bash.bashrc

at the very end of the gedit file comment out the line:

/usr/games/fortune

Should work. If you comment it out rather than removing it you can reload fortune again without having to
re-code. Save the file and exit gedit.

All in all this promises to be the best base we have seen in a long time. A quick 9.04 beta impression: I tried the Jaunty live cd this morning. (Dell PentD 2.8, 2gig RAM, SamsungWS) All hardware, including screen resolution, and network worked without hiccups. Think the "computer janitor" addition...

Re: Rebrand Linux Mint?

Linux Mint is mostly referred to as "Mint" when you read about it, so I wonder if the "linux" part is necessary in the logo . I'm not suggesting that it is to be removed from the name all together, but hopefully the leaf and the "mint" text has a strong enough recognition factor for it to be used a...

Re: Mint menu: change icon

I just to upgraded to Mint 6. Load and customize spent about an hour and a half. Everything exactly like I want. One step to add this time though. You can now easily change your mint menu icon button. I have always wanted to have a old school looking "Gnome foot" menu icon with no text on my one top...
