Re: UPDATE PACK 7 FEEDBACK THREAD

Yeah, you are right about the metas. It's been a while since I paid attention to them, as they got uninstalled long ago. They would have been really handy when I was bringing my system back, though. I knew about the mate 1.6 changes too, as I use mate at work and somehow picked-up 1.6 before clem ha...

Re: UPDATE PACK 7 FEEDBACK THREAD

The glib stack was fairly broken and gdm3 didn't work at all, so I ended up forcing everything to incoming with some apt pins. After some trial and error, I reached this steady-state: The following packages have been kept back: gir1.2-gnomebluetooth-1.0 gjs gnome-bluetooth gnome-shell gnome-shell-co...

Re: UPDATE PACK 7 FEEDBACK THREAD

My upgrade was problematic in that I was coming from UP6+wheezy. I had to move up to wheezy to get working multiarch support on amd64. I was a little surprised that I had to downgrade a fair number of packages in order to get UP7 installed. Are we still not even caught up to the current stable? Ther...

Re: LMDE package freshness

Firstly, UP6 is not even up to date with wheezy (now Debian stable). UP6 doesn't have multiarch, which is becoming annoying when trying to use 3rd party packages. Updating to wheezy over UP6 proved to be relatively painless. I didn't grab it all...just everything I needed to get proper multiarch sup...

Re: Cinnamon periodic temporary freeze

Here is the thread that is running when the problem occurs. The desktop starts responding as soon as this thread exits: #0 0x00007f99b774c634 in __pthread_mutex_unlock_usercnt () from /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpthread.so.0 #1 0x00007f99b79e4451 in g_mutex_unlock () from /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libglib-...

Re: Cinnamon periodic temporary freeze

It feels like some kind of timeout. I suppose I can run cinnamon in gdb and see where it is stuck. Does inserting a USB drive trigger it for you?

Re: Cinnamon periodic temporary freeze

I believe that is a different issue. I have read many threads on this topic and they all tend to point to a graphics or pulseaudio issue. In some cases, a user can kill X and recover. In the case of the bug you posted, they can't even do that. My problem is a temporary stall. I never have to kill X....

Cinnamon periodic temporary freeze

On my PC at home, it is very difficult for me to use Cinnamon. Every now and then, the UI will completely freeze for about 30 seconds or so. The mouse still moves and background operations keep running (I can hear notifications from my chat client, for example). In fact, I can interact with the desk...

Re: UPDATE PACK 4 FEEDBACK THREAD

The latest refresh batch seemed to go fine. As someone else pointed out, there is some dependency issues surrounding python-aptdaemon. I actually ran into this on Wheezy as part of the dependency hell of trying to upgrade from Squeeze. I think the issue here is that "import" has a stale package in i...

Re: UPDATE PACK 4 FEEDBACK THREAD

This was a big upstream change. Hopefully it will get more Minty before it is released into latest. It is still missing MATE, as well.

Re: UPDATE PACK 4 FEEDBACK THREAD

The upgrade to my workstation at home went well. In fact, it went better than it did on my fresh UP3 install. The reason xserver-xorg and friends are being held back is because of libpixman-1-0. I picked that package up from wheezy and xorg installed from incoming just fine.

Re: UPDATE PACK 4 FEEDBACK THREAD

Successfully upgraded a *clean* UP3 install on my MacBook Pro. - There were quite a few debconf hits on files that appeared to have been modified by the Mint team. Are we just abandoning those? - The Shell seemed to work as expected. Using Cinnamon now. It has some issues, but I don't think it is an...

Re: Mint 11: No "remember running applications" option?!

Yes, this feature has been intentionally removed from natty. In fact, this was the final straw for me to try Mint 10. I was disappointed but not surprised that Mint 11 inherited this bug. Even "Classic" mode (which is what Mint 11 basically is) is broken in natty because the breakage was introduced ...
