Thanks for the reply...
Now as far as I read in that article, that was only implemented in 2.6.38.
There is a power bug that appeared also in 2.6.38...
Is there a kernel version that provides this patch, yet isn't affected by the power bug ? like... 2.6.38.1 for example ?

Re: Internet Connection & Sharing
My situation is fairly the same. Can anyone assist me ? Firestarter does work, with the issues mentioned in another post. I was wondering, could I copy the iptables configuration set up by it, get rid of firestarter and use the the settings... any reason this wouldn't work? Why buy hardware for some...

Performance boost coming from ?...
In the blog we read: Performance boost One of the most significant improvements is the performance boost given to this edition. Here are a few figures comparing the memory consumption in the 32-bit live sessions of Linux Mint Xfce and Linux Mint 9 Xfce: * Mint Xfce: 114 MB RAM (Mint 9 Xfce: 153 MB R...

Re: PPPoe plus ICS plus firestarter - kaboooom !
Uhm... It's strange... Enable the firewall first, from Terminal: sudo ufw enable sudo ufw status sudo ufw delete 1 sudo ufw status I did a clean install. It's gone. It was a side note anyway. Question. Why does firestarter start up and stop and such ? Why can't it leave the rules in place ? Why doe...

Re: firefox -p from terminal used to work in an another dist
Hello Mindmint There's no desperation, it's rather an amazement that the issue is still not solved. I thought this was only an issue for me, for I'm not yet comfortably knowledgeable with linux... but how come you are caught off guard by this ?... am I being suggested to give up ? No one is...

:) Simpler isn't easier, simpler is less. Sorry, I must have gotten the wrong impression from your post. The whole Elementary approach is to simplify various functions, to keep the basic functions of stuff upfront and uncomplicated,m while hiding the more complex stuff under the hood. I wrongly figu...

A relevant list of diiferences between debian-mint ?
Where do I look for a list of specific changes ? What does Mint bring to the table, aside graphical elegance and software that comes by default here, but i'd have to download in an another distro. Relevant, specific enhancements, affecting usability, productivity and performance. (Btw, I applaud the...

Re: Peppermint OS + Elementary OS - Ubuntu = Perfect OS for
Thank you for taking the time to reply. Allow me to ask some questions that popped up for me while reading your reply... An easy way to reduce Mint XFCE's RAM consumption by about 30mb in one swoop is to remove the Mint Menu, replace it with the traditional XFCE menu. The Mint Menu is a Gnome-Panel ...

PIdgin "Waiting for network connection" yet conn is ready
Bug report.
I have to disable the account and then re-enable it to get online. For each account.
PS: I found that after a long amount of time, or maybe in certain conditions it connects eventually. (I'm using Xfce.)

dmesg not showing it all... not even with -n. bug ?
I've been trying to find a way to look at the messages that come up during Xfce mint's boot up. dmesg doesn't bring up everything. If I'm not mistaken, there are different levels to those messages, but dmesg -n 1, up to dmesg -n 9 returns nothing at all. Is this a bug ? Where do I find the complete ...

Re: PPPoe plus ICS plus firestarter - kaboooom !
It says it's inactive, and that it "Could not find rule '1'" - but this is because since than I reinstalled my system and never considered touching gufw again.
What would really help me is help with ICS and Firestarter.

Same here. I've been using sidux and was pleased though. I'd also consider, arch and elementary OS.Aging Technogeek wrote:If Mint disappeared, I would probably use Peppermint or Crunchbang, with Sidux as a distant third choice

If I'm not mistaken it should also end with "a". Any other things that need to be considered ? Since we start with L, I'd also continue with I... this would rhyme with L I nux and M I nt. From here I sought for something that sounds elegant for me, and came up with: Lisa - smart, elegant.....

Re: Peppermint OS + Elementary OS - Ubuntu = Perfect OS for
Well, I'm using Mint Xfce right now, as specified in my OP. If it's not getting any better than this... well. I guess I'm in the right place already and all I need is a little more RAM. But I just run into trouble with VirtualBox on it, so I think I'll give Debian Xfce a try. After coming from aptos...

May I know why ? Mint is based on Ubuntu. Well, not the xfce edition. But, how can you run mint while hating ubuntu ?Joylove wrote:Next to the currently running LM8XFCE probably Debian with XFCE (Ubuntu is no longer an option post 9.04).

Peppermint OS + Elementary OS - Ubuntu = Perfect OS for me
This post is my take on Linux and speed and productivity, I'll show you what I found in my search after a more suitable OS and hope to get some feedback. Re: Ubuntu's Unity will save Linux
My feelings on buntu are pretty clear by now. Haven't tried Unity ... Only ever tried a couple buntu releases. Based on the experience and impression I got. Think ubuntu is overall hurting linux. Am a newb atm ... while not the avg comp user. Having spent many years submerged and exploring PC tech....
