Question about game console emulators and 64bit

Using Katya 64bit OEM

1. Searching visualboy in the Software Manager, the first result is visualboyadvance, version 1.8.0.dfsg-0.1 Is this compatible with my (64bit) system?
2. Are there any (other) emulators made for 64bit linux?

Nandroid equivalent?

With Android, you can make a backup image of your current system, which you can reload later. This way you can install different ROMs (the computer equivalent would be to install different OSs), make risky tweaks etc, and switch between the nandroid backups at your whim. Feel like you prefered your ...

Re: So many problems all at once...

Yes, minimalism! I mean, I would have done it before, but as a newb I'm hesitant to make major changes before learning all the consequences. Not that I'm opposed to eye candy at all, in fact it was quite impressive and my system should have been able to handle it well, but rather that version of Com...

Re: So many problems all at once...

So, life goes on... I backed up my important stuff using my method of choice, and did a fresh install last night, Katya 64bit OEM. Using Synaptic I promptly and completely removed everything with 'compiz' in it, and anything else I considered both bloat and safe to uninstall (totem, pidgin, thunderb...

Re: So many problems all at once...

Are you installing and running Katya while overclocking? Lol would I have any self respect with this rig at stock clock? I can't imagine why a clock that was extremely stable and plenty cool under Windows (yes, I put it through the ringer, as does every decent overclocker) would cause Linux Mint 11...

Re: So many problems all at once...

I have a feeling I'm about to follow in your footsteps. I really really like the idea of Linux, and I really don't like Windows or M$, plus I'm a geek so I can see myself starting over until I learn enough to do it right. But jesus christ. Katya and Natty are without a doubt more unstable than any W...

Mint 64 or 32?

Much of Linux' problems I've encountered were said to be attributed to 64bit. So I'm considering installing a 32bit version. I'm reading about this right now, and I want your feelings on the matter before I actually go through with anything as drastic as a full reinstall. Is 32bit significantly more...

Re: So many problems all at once...

Dang man I'm sorry you went through that... As much as I hate how bloated and slow Win7 64bit is, I've never had any real problems with it, no less unsolvable problems, and especially no problems so major as to require an entire re-install. This will be my 4th Linux install in 3 weeks... But I don't...

Re: So many problems all at once...

Just got back, I have the Katya OEM disk now. Hard to answer your questions haha... Yes I did a fresh install of Mint 11, it was "full" in the sense that I thought it wiped the drive and used the whole drive, but no it wasn't "full" in the sense that it wasn't the DVD or even the "CD no codecs". It ...

Re: So many problems all at once...

Probably also related, I just plugged in my phone and the system now recognizes my Evo as: B' (Where it was previously: HTC Android 7.9GB Filesystem ) <insert rulebreaking frustrated language here>, nobody on ubuntu forums knows what to do either, and I don't even have a clue where to begin googling...

Re: So many problems all at once...

I don't know bro, you took a very bad turn somewhere. New one on me, god knows I have linux on a hella lot of systems. If it was me, I would wipe and start fresh. But thats just me, not sure how to help further. Sounds like your user account is corrupted. Did ya check and make sure your permissions...

Re: So many problems all at once...

Followed your instructions and set auto login. Not only didn't that resolve the problem (therefore I turned it back off), but it logs me in automatically (bad) and comes up with keyring stuff (which I know how to resolve, but it's unnecessary AND doesn't solve the root desktop problem) Note, I can l...

Re: So many problems all at once...

Weirdly, auto login was selected (I've never auto logged in, and it has never and still doesn't auto log me in), but...

Re: So many problems all at once...

Haha I appreciate the offer :) but I'd rather just figure out how to solve this issue...

I never did mess with the login settings or customize much of anything.

The problem seems to be that it's trying to use a root desktop. So How can I make it use my normal desktop?

Re: So many problems all at once...

Never did any customizing having to do with Compiz. Installed apps: VLC, Lifeograph, Frostwire, OpenShot, Chrome, GIMP. Using "Desktop Settings" I did deselect all system icons from showing on the desktop, and I may have unchecked one of the two boxes in the "Windows" tab under the title "Performanc...

Re: So many problems all at once...

What do you want to know? Right now as far as I can tell, it's just trying to load the "/root/desktop" desktop instead of the "/home/anon/desktop" desktop, and thus the PW prompt for root nautilus at login. Therefore to solve this maybe we should make it load the normal "/home/anon/desktop" desktop....

Re: So many problems all at once...

Messing around I learned some more details: Upon logging in, I am asked for password to open nautilus as root. If I decline, I am left with my normal background, but an un-functioning desktop (none of the files in the home>desktop folder, can't right click desktop or highlight etc). However, if I en...

Re: So many problems all at once...

Hi and thanks. 1. No. 2. How to completely disable? What functionality will I lose? I'd rather not even use it if it's not important, since all I hear is problems with it and my last issue (unclickable area/phantom window) was also likely a problem with compiz, also unresolved. 3. Yep I know that ha...

Re: So many problems all at once...

I never have icons on the desktop (hence removing even the computer and home icons). So to test if the desktop even exists (it doesn't, or whatever), I moved a file onto the desktop folder within nautilus. It doesn't show on the desktop immediately, or after logging out then in, or after restarting....

So many problems all at once...

Noticed this all on waking the system from Suspend this morning. 1. Couldn't check for updates because "another application is using APT". Persisted after logging in/out twice. "Resolved" by restarting. 2. Upon waking from suspension this morning, and every time I log in now (normal login at boot, n...
