Re: Update faults??

Thanks to all for help.-- Machine worked o.k. after storms, but some other areas of 'net could have been affected. - The storms seem to have affected large parts of the eastern & southern seaboard, & high country areas. Spotify does not interest me, I will uninstall it. I like Google Earth but it ha...

Just downloaded Mint 19 & noticed it was marked V2.-- Is there any significance in the V2? - I also noticed it had a different sha256 sum to another version.

Upgrade 18.2 to 19.1? SOLVED.

I notice an upgrade is possible for Mint 19.1, but only from 19. - Is it likely to be possible to upgrade from 18.2 to 19.1? (mate)

Re: Why does Mint's MATE look different from MATE in other distros?

I really like the look of MATE in Linux Mint. But, I noticed that Ubuntu MATE and Debian MATE look the same as each other and both look totally different from Mint's implementation of MATE. Why? Now, comparing that KDE/Plasma.... Mint KDE, Neon, Kubuntu.....basically any distro with KDE.... they al...

Re: Unticked Items Showing in Update Manager.SOLVED

This has happened before in an earlier version of Mint & the fix was simple. - This time the identical procedure does not work. Several items continue to show in the update manager as items not ticked, therefore not updated. - They are all 3 & 4 classification updates for the kernel & security upda...

viking1au wrote: They are all 3 & 4 classification updates for the kernel & security updates. - If they are 'dodgy' why send them at all? You answered your own question. They are security updates. Being that we are told category 3 & 4 are somewhat more risky, I think this to be a silly comment. Thi...

Re: Unticked Items Showing in Update Manager.

Your problem looks (to me) much more complex than mine.
Maybe someone may spot your problem. (?) To me it appears to be serious enough to justify a separate listing, maybe under software & applications, but I can't be real sure. - Rgds.

Re: Mint 18.1 slow-crashes SOLVED

As a 'final' on this subject, although the mother board had been given a clean bill of health, it finally died. It seems it had suffered approx 20 too many rather solid & sudden power outages & surges. So, this is a fresh(?) second hand computer (intel i5 with 8gb ram), running off a just acquired U...

Not sure bout this: "inxi -Fxzd" from the console terminal prompt.. Rarely touch the terminal. - Not so sure what to do with it. - Need classes on this, but none anywhere near where I live. Re: Google Earth problem (SOLVED)

I have only noticed, last night, that one thing has vanished from Google Earth, and that is the 'Temperature' facility. - Not a big deal yet. - I will worry about it after upgrading a few bits of hardware, then maybe a later version of Mint, then hope I can still get Google Earth to work again, hope...

Owing to zero response, it seems time to start looking for a new Motherboard, & take it a step at the time, to eliminate hardware gremlins, then look at fresh software.

Re: Why does Mint's MATE look different from MATE in other distros?

I was never aware of this heavy use of the Mate term across so many distros either. -- My main thought is that if Mint's version of Mate seems so different to all the others, then it should be a simple matter to call it something else to distinguish it from the pack. -- This 'mate' term is a bit cru...

Mint 18.1 slow-crashes SOLVED

Have been using Mint 18.1 Serena (mate) for some months. - A couple of niggles: first, it is somewhat slower than the old 17.1 on opening. - Sometimes it seems to lock up on opening & needs a hard reset, to get it past the opening 'Asus' screen. With this version, I also note the following: somewher...

Re: Google Earth problem (SOLVED)

O.K. Thanks Richyrich. He finally got one right.--- Most thanks go to the guy who has the 'a Pipe & a Keyboard' site, who recognized the monster hole with the G.E. problem, and filled it. Mostly a matter of copy n paste for a simple & easy install of a version of G.E. (64bit) that actually works.
