Can't Install 19.1 Xfce on HP Pavilian

Hi, I cannot boot from a Mint-19.1-Xfce 64bit DVD on my 6-month-old HP Pavilion which has 16 GB of memory and an AMD Ryzen 7 cpu. Currently, I am running a dual boot system with Mint 18.3 Xfce 64-bit and Windows 10. I have set the bios to enable legacy-mode and disable secure-boot. I am able to boot...

Solved - Xorg using 100% CPU with 18.1

I tried the Shift keys but that did not work.

Thru google I found
http://askubuntu.com/questions/668049/g ... rking?rq=1

and tried putting

#GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0

in /etc/default/grub. That solved my problem.

Thanks for your help,

Re: Xorg using 100% CPU with 18.1

Hi, Thanks for the replies. I am running Xfce as my DE. I went back to 17.3 for the time being. I will try a fresh install. I had used the update procedure to go from 17.3 to 18 and the did an update to 18.1. I would like to do the fresh install to a separate partition, I have /home on a separate pa...

Re: Black lines with 17.2 Xfce [Solved]

Karl, Thanks for you comprehensive reply. It turns out that posting the same question on an Xfce form, I was referred to another posting that advised one to go to Window Manager Tweaks -> Compositor and turn off "Show Shadows under dock windows" and behold the black lines disappeared. I would never ...

Black lines with 17.2 Xfce

Hi I have recently updated Mint 17.1 to 17.2 which includes Xfce 4.12. There now appears a vertical line about 80% of the way across the screen. My monitor is a Dell 27 in. running at 1920x1200 resolution. The graphics card is a GForce 7300 LE, and the driver is Nvivia 305-125. In the background the...

Re: Can't Install Flex and Bison

Hi,

Found my problem, it seems that I had a bad PGP signature for raring Release. I was able to fix it with:

sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 40976EAF437D05B5

and then apt-get update.

[Solved] Can't Install Flex and Bison

Hi, I have experienced problems installing some packages which are available in Ubuntu and I wonder if I have the "right" set of repositories. I am running Mint 15 32-bit. For instance, I need flex and bison which I think are standard packages for Linux and are available in Ubu ntu. When I try insta...

Re: Mint 13 Problem with resolv.conf

Thanks for the reply. I did try searching the forum but did not see the thread mentioned. Everything I saw on the forum including your reference indicated to me that the whole issue of network configureation is pretty confused. I have not seen anthing like a convincing solution. This is a sad state ...

Mint 13 Problem with resolv.conf

I just installed Mint 13 with cinnamon on a Dell DXP061 desktop. The network connection is an ethernet connection, eth0. I am actually running Xfce as my desktop. I have specified a static IP address. Since I access the internet via Satallite I also installed pdnsd for DNS caching. And so my DNS add...

Re: Mint 13 is "more" "rolling" than LMDE???

Hi, I went to LMDE because I spend several months after a clean install of a new release getting everything just the way I like and after a very short time I'm having to do it all over again. I installed the 201204 version shortly after it became available partly because the writeup on Debian sugges...

What is approved way of installing Wine on LMDE

Hi, I am running LinuxMint-Cinnamon-64bit on a Dell DXP061. Its pretty important to me to get Wine running on LMDE. I note and understand the disapproval of using an Ubuntu deb and there does not seem to be a Wine package the repositories of LMDE. When I look at the official Debian repositories ther...

Re: Problem running "sudo emacs"

Thanks, that was indeed my misunderstanding.

I was able to verify that this was the problem by executing "sudo emacs -user rozen" and that lead to my first copying my .emacs to /root. I then made a symbolic link from the .emacs in my home directory to /root.

Thanks for your help,

Problem running "sudo emacs"

Hi, I am new to LMDE and am having some struggles get it set up. I am running the 64bit version with xfce that I downloaded last week on a Dell DXP061. When I run emacs, it behaves as I expect, nearly. But when I invoke it with the command "sudo emacs" emacs will start but it does not appear to proc...

Re: GForce 7300LE and Dual Monitor with Xfce

Hi, I answered my own question. The GForce 7300LE does indeed support Dual Monitors. I learned that by installing in a separate partition Linux Mint 201204 Xfce 64 bit and, by golly, I was able to run dual monitors. I ran into ssome problems with Debian Xfce however, and so I am still fighting that ...

GForce 7300LE and Dual Monitor with Xfce

Hi, I hope that this question is not a repeat. I did a search but did not find an answer. I have a Dell Desktop, XPS 410 N, dating from 2007. It has four GB of memory and an GForce 7300 LE graphics card. The graphics card has VGA, DVI, and S-video outputs. My regular monitor is a Dell 2707 WFP with ...

Hi, I just had occasion (I screwed up) to reinstall Mint 11 and noticed that as installed from the iso, the cursor size was indeed enlarged as I expected it to be. Everything went fine until I installed the Nvidia propitiatory driver then I got the enlarged cursor only at certain places on my deskto...

Problem with Large Cursor

Hi, I am running Mint-11 with Gnome. My tired old eyes make it very convenient to have a large cursor. So I go the Preferences->Appearance->Customize route and set the cursor as large as possible. The problem is that it does not change the cursor size in most windows including the cursor customizati...
