Re: Mint 17 to 18 upgrade failure - how to fix

Then it was a case of install mint 18 (observing partitions ), create users, add software and copy config files back. since I didn't have to restor...

Re: Dual boot Win8 & Mint15

I have had to go back to windows 8 due to work, but would like to dual boot Mint and Windows 8. I dont mind holding off until the next version of ...

Re: mint install on SSD hardrive - unknown file system for r

well I tried the hard drive in another laptop and mint gave the exact same problems. I then tried a firmware update from OCZ and this did not even find the SSD hard drive. By now I am starting to think the device is defective even though its brand new. I then tried to install windows and it does not...

Re: mint install on SSD hardrive - unknown file system for r

UPDATE: performed a further two fresh installs with no success. I particaned the harddrive with just root and performed an install, after applying all updates no boot again. Something must be strange with the latest kernel update. Just to confirm, before applying updates, I can reboot without issues...

mint install on SSD hardrive - unknown file system for root

Hi all Today I decided to upgrade my little netbook harddrive to a SSD harddrive, so I re-installed mint. This initially went well and I let mint decide how to partican the hardddrive. The only problem is that after all updates were applied, the next boot up just came up with the grub> basically not...

Re: Linux Mint 15 "Olivia" released!

Odd - I did it the old fashioned way with an actual DVD and it works fine from the same downloaded ISO. Maybe something is wrong with my USB stick? (Created from the startup Disk creator) Anyone else had problems booting live off USB sticks? I manually downloaded mint 15 cinnamon iso then used linu...

Re: Linux Mint 15 "Olivia" released!

I think this release opens the flood gates to users that have brought new pc's preloaded with the latest operating system only to find no start button. If they are savy enough, welcome to mint land :D Was I first through the floodgate? :) No but if people want the traditional start menu feel back t...

Re: Mint 15 Screen brightness has no effect on Compaq 6910p

thanks kherring7383 I got this working now. Cinnamon adjustment now works fine and I can set the brightness fine. As a side note, cinnamon's slider setting allows the user to slide between 0% and 100%. I dont think 0% is actually true, maybe that could be fixed later on. Maybe the slider should vary...

Re: Mint 15 Screen brightness has no effect on Compaq 6910p

Problem resolved but I kind of feel like a wally for finding out what the problem was. In the bios, I had enabled 'ambient light sensor'. The result was that the screen brightness in Cinammon had no effect. Windowze overrules this light sensor hence the problem did not show up. So for anyone using a...

Olivia upgrade to released version apt-get upgrade ?

Hi all sorry if this is in the wrong section, if so please move. I was wondering if an upgrade can be perfomed (sudo apt-get upgrade) from mint 15 RC to the fully released version of mint 15. Or should a fesh install be performed. I don't mind either way but there are no questions posted regarding a...
