Re: Skip bootloader installation when installing LM

Well, yesterday I realized that there IS a commandline option to skip bootloader installation, just start "ubiquity -b kde-session", and no bootloader will be installed ;)

Cheers

Re: Skip bootloader installation when installing LM

Hmm, it doesn't really seem to be such a user-specific case. Pretty much every other linux distro I've tried (and that includes Ubuntu, Fedora, OpenSUSE, Debian, Arch, Chakra and many others) seem to offer such an option. The average user wouldn't really know whether to install a bootloader to /dev/...

Skip bootloader installation when installing LM

Hey everyone, I have a lightweight Arch installed on my system, which boots using grub. My partition layout is the following: /dev/sda1 -> /boot /dev/sda2 ->boot backup /dev/sda3 -> LVM system, where I have swap, and LVs for Arch and Mint. My /boot is to be shared by all the distros, by keeping the ...

Problems with certain GTK+ applications and updating

Hey everyone, I've been tinkering on and off with Linux Mint for quite some time, and I've recently decided to give the KDE version some time on my notebook. Everything is going quite smoothly, it's one of the best KDE distributions I've played with ;) Now, I've been having some problems with certai...

Is there any change of you posting some screenshots of this remaster? I'd be interested in trying out MeX Linux ;)

Removing workspace switcher from the panel

Hey everyone, I've seen an answer to this question that involved changing a certain .js file in /usr/share/js/ui/, but it appears that said javascript file has been changed, so the solution is no longer applicable. Can anyone tell me how to do it? I just want to remove the workspace switcher control...

Re: Can't start Software Manager

It does work when running Mint from the live USB, and it did work until now on my current installation, so I don't think there's anything corrupted with the ISO file.

Re: Can't start Software Manager

Is there any way I can reinstall the software manager? Or would that break the system or cause instability?

Note that I can use the update manager, Synaptics package manager, and install through the terminal, the only thing that appears to be screwed up is the software manager interface.

Cheers

Re: Can't start Software Manager

I'm using Mint 11. I ran it from the terminal using "sudo mintinstall". It gives me some lines: /usr/lib/linuxmint/mintInstall/mintinstall.py:250: SyntaxWarning: import * only allowed at module level def get_status_description(self, transaction): /usr/lib/linuxmint/mintInstall/mintinstall.py:258: Sy...

Re: General Compiz decorations and Firefox theme questions

What are the terminal commands to do what the Fusion icon does? Like reloading the window manager, switching between metacity and compiz, switching between gtk and emerald, etc.?

Re: General Compiz decorations and Firefox theme questions

Okay, I did all that is described in that article, and Compiz is working pretty smoothly now. I'll miss the Aero Snap feature, but that's life ;)
I have one problem, though. I can't seem to launch the Compiz Fusion Icon. Do I have to reinstall something?

Re: General Compiz decorations and Firefox theme questions

Okay, thank you for the answer. I'll stick with Chrome for now, then, which does have an option of not using the GTK theme.

Regarding downgrading Compiz, what negative consequences would it bring? I can't even use Emerald themes in the current state, the decorations simply disappear too.

Can't start Software Manager

So yeah, the thread title says pretty much everything. I don't know when it stopped working, but when I click on in using the MintMenu, nothing happens. The process appears in System Monitor as a Zombie, under Memory shows N/A and under Waiting Channel it shows "do_exit". Any help would be appreciat...

General Compiz decorations and Firefox theme questions

Hey everyone, while on Windows, Firefox was my main browser. Now that I've semi-migrated to Mint, I find myself using Firefox less and less in favor of Chrome. I was wondering how to make Firefox look like the Windows version, with the default Windows icon set and font, make the Firefox button orang...
