Re: Why is Mint 17.1 footprint so HUGE?
Never did figure out why MInt 17.1 O/S eats memory and grows and grows and grows. But as this O/S won't stay up for 4 complete days at a time for me, I'm writing it off as a lost cause. As I am multi-booted, I'll be returning to Mint 17 Qiana on my next boot. Now if I could just remember how to make...

Re: Why is Mint 17.1 footprint so HUGE?
I know which process is the memory hog. It's Mint 17.1 64-bit O/S. The default System Monitor tells me that; htop doesn't tell me anything more. Mint 17 64-bit O/S typically ran ~400 MiB for me. My usage is the same under 17.1 as it was under Mint17; so yes - it really, really, really is way out the...

Why is Mint 17.1 footprint so HUGE?
I upgraded to Mint 17.1, and it's been up and running for 3 days now. It's footprint keeps growing, and growing, and growing. Right now it's taking up 908 MiB! Is it ever going to stop growing? The write-up on Mint 17.1 stated it fixed 40 memory links, but this ever-growing O/S indicates it's leakin...

Re: What is most stable version of Mint Cinammon 64 bit
Mint 17 Cinnamon (Qiana) is the most stable version of a 64-bit Cinnamon. Mint 17.1 Cinnamon (Rebecca) still has some kinks to work out.

Re: Replacing older Mint O/S with backup
if you install Mint 17.1 over the older version of Mint, - and then let it install it's grub_loader to sda, then it's version of the updated grub_menu should work like that. That wasn't my question. I don't want to install Mint 17.1, I want to have 2 identical versions of Mint 17 and upgrade one of...

Re: cdrom no longer pops up upon disc insertion
Because it doesn't show up in Nemo on the left. And yes, I have "mount volume" ticked in on the desktop.Buzzsaw wrote:If you need access, then why not open Nemo and click on the shortcut for the inserted disc on the left?

cdrom no longer pops up upon disc insertion
I'm still running Mint 17 cinnamon, not 17.1. All of sudden I can no longer get a list of files on any CD/DVD when I insert it into the cdrom tray. It was working fine today; then came changes from the update manager; now I can't access those files. The CD/DVD no longer pops up, and I'll be damed if...

[Solved]Replacing older Mint O/S with backup
I have 3 Mint O/S now, all selectable in the Grub boot menu. If I use my partition backup to overwrite an older Mint O/S with my Mint 17 version, can I run "sudo update-grub" so the grub menu will pick up on the substitution. I want to keep my current Mint 17 Cinnamon O/S intact, but make ...

Re: Adding Wine applications in the quick launch bar?
I used the menu editor, which is accessed thru a right click on menu. Shows the choice 'Configure...' Which, in turn, brings me to the 'open the menu editor' option . That allows me to add, delete, edit items on the menu. I don't know what you mean by the 'start menu'. And as I said at the beginning...

Re: Adding Wine applications in the quick launch bar?
But wine apps require the prefix of "wine" to be considered an application rather than a simple file. What do you mean? Do you mean I need to change the app's name from "foo.exe" to "winefoo.exe"? No, I mean it needs to read something like this: wine /pathname/foo.exe ...

Re: Adding Wine applications in the quick launch bar?
I've had no wine apps on the panel or quick panel area, so I can't answer your question. But wine apps require the prefix of "wine" to be considered an application rather than a simple file. I have created menu items for maybe 21 wine apps, and that's the trick there. I've added a couple o...

Red is the universal color for WARNINGS. All level 5 updates are essentially saying "Use at your own Risk" Levels 1 thru 3 are the defaults when doing updates.

Re: What are you most dissatisfied with in Linux Mint?
My biggest complaint is nemo hogging memory and never seeming to let go. I run my home computer 24/7 and nemo's share keeps going up, up and away. I noted the problem when I first used the Cinnamon DE on Mint 15, and now that I'm running Mint 17 cinnamon the problem still exists. I keep the system m...

Re: MintUpdate shows the unsafe packages
Excellent explanation by Clem. I was just thinking about this issue when I saw your link to his post. So-called security updates don't get a free pass from me until I see the need for them. Stability is my overriding concern.

[Solved] Where is menu editing on Mint17 Cinnamon?
I know this sounds like a stupid question, but I can't find the "edit menu" function on Mint 17 Cinnamon. I'm coming from Mint 15 Cinnamon where a right click on the menu icon would bring up menu editing, and I'm sure there was a menu item to do the same thing. I've looked at all the menu ...

Re: 100% swap space usage causes non-responsive mouse input
Venturing into Cinnamon 2.0 or Linux Mint 16 is just shooting in the dark. I see nothing listed on these items to suggest that nemo's memory leak has been addressed. Invariably there will be bugs with new releases and I just as soon wait a few months for some of the gotchas to be ironed out. I did a...

Re: 100% swap space usage causes non-responsive mouse input
Thanks for your thoughts, xenopeek. Getting rid of the swap partiton is probably good advice. It's squeezed between two other partitions, so I will probably just add it to the tail of a Mint O/S partition. I'm starting to run my home PC 24/7 again, a default setup I used frequently before I installe...

100% swap space usage causes non-responsive mouse input
I have 5.7 GiB of memory and a 500 MiB swap space partition. While I never came close to using all my swap space partition in Lisa and prior Mint/Ubuntu versions, I have reached 100% swap space usage under Mint 15 Cinnamon. When this 100% usage occurs, it can take minutes for the sytem to recognize ...
