Re: Calibre's dropdown menu has gray text on a gray background. I can't see the text. [solved]

I know that we can choose the icon themes, but I don't have a problem with my current icon them. I could change my icon theme, but that doesn't touch on the problem I originally posted about (i.e., text in dropdown menus were same color as menu color). Yes, my problem is fixed, by doing what I did i...

Hmmm. Not sure why you brought up icon themes, as that's not what the problem is. :)

Re: How can you get Calibre to heed the rest of your Cinnamon's dark theme?

Yes, I think you're right that it's related to a change with version 3.46. I say that because, when I was on 3.21 (from the Mint repository), I had export CALIBRE_USE_SYSTEM_THEME=1 in calibre.sh (in etc/profile.d/) and it worked. But it doesn't work with 3.46 (from calibre website).

Re: How can you get Calibre to heed the rest of your Cinnamon's dark theme?

no. In fact, it even makes the text (grey) in the dropdown menus the same color as the menus (grey).

Re: Calibre's dropdown menu has gray text on a gray background. I can't see the text.

I assume that you used the "binary install" method. My installation of Calibre looks different to what your link shows but that may just be due to the chosen theme. Have a look in Calibre Preferences, Look & feel (Ctrl + p) where you can alter the display according to your wishes. Using Linux Mint ...

Re: Calibre's dropdown menu has gray text on a gray background. I can't see the text.

I fixed the problem by
going to the etc/profile.d/ folder and renaming "calibre.sh" to "calibre.shBACKUP".
it had one line in it: export CALIBRE_USE_SYSTEM_THEME=1.

How can you get Calibre to heed the rest of your Cinnamon's dark theme?

I installed Calibre from https://calibre-ebook.com/download_linux > "Binary Install".

In my Cinnamon Mint 19.2 I am happy user of Mint-Y-Dark / Mint-Y-Dark-Grey theming. (Screenshot)

How do I get Calibre to use the dark theme? Thanks.

Calibre's dropdown menu has gray text on a gray background. I can't see the text. [solved]

It was suggested to me to use the Calibre from the Calibre website . So that's what I did. But now, the dropdown menus have gray text on a gray background, as you can see in this screenshot . How do I fix this? I'm using Cinnamon 19.2. Calibre is 3.46. I don't know which subforum to post this (Deskt...

I want VLC to always appear in the fore, including when VLC is already open in background

I usually start playback of a movie by doubleclicking the movie file in my Nemo file explorer. VLC opens up and starts playing. I noticed something: Situation 1. If VLC is not currently open/running when I double click the movie file, VLC will appear on the forefront and will have the focus (with re...

Can I use my Android smartphone as a remote control for when I'm watching stuff on VLC on my Mint laptop? [solved]

I have a Thinkpad running Linux Mint 19.x. I have a Samsung running Android Pie. I sometimes watch movies on my laptop, with the VLC program. Is there a way I can use my smartphone as a remote control? All I wanna do is:
--Increase/Decrease volume
--Fast-forward/Reverse
--Pause/Play

Thanks.

Re: Can I install an APK on my phone while it's USB-cable-connected to my Linux computer that has the APK file? [solved]

This https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/64353/how-to-batch-install-apks-from-computer-to-android-without-actually-touching-my helped. It teaches me how to bulk-install APKs. As for OBBs, I just extracted them one by one, as I don't know how do bulk-extract. (The context menu's "Extract Here...

Can I install an APK on my phone while it's USB-cable-connected to my Linux computer that has the APK file? [solved]

My Linux Mint computer has an APK file that I'd like to install onto my Android phone. I usually just move the file first to my phone's storage before I install. But can I install the APK onto my Android phone while it's USB-cable-connected to my Linux computer, without having to first move the file...

Is the warning against plugging in free USBs applicable only to Windows and Mac? [solved]

There's a tech reporter who recently advised against plugging in free USB drives/keys into your computer. I believe it's because there's a chance they could be infected with malware/virus/spyware/etc.

But is this precaution applicable to us Linux users?

Re: Planning on buying a USB keyboard from a private seller. How can I make sure item is 100% working?

I plan to meet a private seller in a few days to buy a USB keyboard. What do you suggest I do to test that the keyboard is 100% okay? I mean, I plan to press every key in every row. Anything I should do/know/test/ask/etc? Thanks. What's the price difference here - keyboards are not that expensive a...

can someone tell me why worldbank.org popup box shows a white box ?

1. Go to https://remittanceprices.worldbank.org/ ... alia/China
2. In the right side, there's a text box for "Alert me when new data published here"
3. Enter an email address
4. A pop up box appears, but it's blank.

I've tried both firefox and chrome. Both have the same, bad results.

Re: If I use VPN, does that mean a wifi hacker can't see the URLs of the http (non-secure) sites I visit?

if I use a VPN (Opera's built-in VPN), does that mean that the hacker (as positioned in https://www.eff.org/pages/tor-and-https) can't see the HTTP (non-secure) sites I visit? That depends 100% on the hacking that one might fall victim to, but generally, only your VPN can see what links you visit, ...
