Re: Wish Linux Mint automatically sets different mic levels depending on whether headset is plugged in or not
Dear Kadaitcha Man, Are you suggesting that I need pavucontrol installed to do as I wish? Are you suggesting that: 1) Mint can and does save and set different "speaker" levels for external speaker vs plugged-in earphone without pavucontrol, and 2) Mint can and does save and set different m...

Wish Linux Mint automatically sets different mic levels depending on whether headset is plugged in or not
When I plug my earphones into my laptop, the volume, happily, goes from mute to something like 50%. In other words, I’m glad that Linux Mint Cinnamon saves and automatically sets different volume levels for built-in speakers and plugged-in earpieces. I wish Linux Mint would save and automatically se...

How can I (temporarily/for few days) turn off Luks password/encryption on portable hard drive?
I bought a portable 2TB hard drive yesterday. With gnome-disks-utliity (Disks in the Mint menu), I turned it into one partition with Luks and password-encrypted it. I did that because my laptop is Linux and I wasn't planning on using Windows or Mac. But I was wondering... let's say that I need to co...

Discord Linux does not like Mint.
Discord Linux doesn't let people talk about Linux Mint, doesn't have nice things to say about Mint. https://i.imgur.com/vWqrAT9.png https://i.imgur.com/DziNrE3.png Before you get speaking privileges, you're presented a Google Form which has this section: Distributions That Are Not Supported - The fo...

Re: Went with LUKS.
I think it's good to keep in mind that full encryption/decryption is going to add a lot of reads/writes to the external media. Should we worry about wearing the external drive out sooner than it otherwise would? Thanks for this. It's not something I factored in. Are you comparing "full encrypt...

Went with LUKS.
Because of the time constraint (my cloud storage will expire on Monday Feb 15), I need to act fast. I learned that my Mint SSD/OS is encrypted with LUKS (based on Disks [gnome-disks-utility]). So I got Disks to do the same thing with my 2TB portable HDD. I'm a noob with these sort of things. This si...

Re: How can I get the same on-the-fly ecrypt/decrypt exp on portable hard drive as my Mint SSD/OS has?
Dear JoeFootball, Thank you for your reply. I clicked the VeryCrpyt link. The home page lists its main features: > Creates a virtual encrypted disk within a file and mounts it as a real disk. Not sure what this means. In any case, it sounds technical. It also sounds like something that's not for me....

How can I get the same on-the-fly ecrypt/decrypt exp on portable hard drive as my Mint SSD/OS has?
I've just bought a Seagate Expansion 2TB portable hard drive (https://www.seagate.com/ca/en/consumer/backup/expansion-portable/). Is there a way that anything and everything I put onto the drive will be automatically encrypted and decrypted? I'm hoping it will be something like my Linux Mint laptop....

This 18GB file is an avi file that Kazam (screencast recorder) created.

How to optimize (reduce filesize w/o big decline in quality) personal movie files for fast upload to cloud storage
I have several personally-created movie files (screencasts) . One of the bigger ones is 18 GB large. I plan to upload to one of my cloud storage sites. But before I do, is there a way to optimize (reduce file size without taking out too much from the quality)? I just want to make the upload speed go...

Re: My Cinnamon 20.1 keeps crashing
I just booted up my computer and Cinnamon crashed a minute after logging in, without running any Wine/Windows programs.

Re: My Cinnamon 20.1 keeps crashing
Hmmm... I guess that's what the crash report is saying. But in my experience, when I use ADE, it doesn't seem to call on xreader (Document Viewer), at least not in my eyes. Anyway, if this is the culprit, I guess there's nothing I can do. If Cinnamon keeps crashing while ADE is running, I guess I'll...

Re: My Cinnamon 20.1 keeps crashing
In the xreader crash report, the "command line" refers to Adobe Digital Editions. That is a program I'm familiar with; ADE is a program I run through Wine (through Lutris). I didn't realize that ADE somehow calls xreader-thumbnailer for help.

Re: My Cinnamon 20.1 keeps crashing
There's nothing in the "System Reports" section. But there's a lot in the Crash Reports section. The crash report for /usr/bin/cinnamon/ is at https://termbin.com/m3bi. The earlier cinnamon crash report is at https://termbin.com/g1u4 The crash report for the latest xreader-thumbnailer is a...

My Mint 20.1 Cinnamon keeps crashing
What's causing Cinnamon to crash? I'm on Cinnamon 20.1. I don't recall Cinnamon crashing when I was on Cinnamon 20.0. Now that I'm on Cinnamon 20.1, it seems to crash every half hour. If it's an applet I installed, how can I tell which applet is the culprit? If it's Cinnamon itself, how can I fix Ci...

Re: From wear and tear, my phone case is fraying. What can I do to strengthen/shield the case from wear and tear?
So two month? And you do not have sandpaper lining in your pocket i assume.. Then imo its not a question about you repairing the case, its much more a question about how fast you can walk to the store, and demand your money back! Yes, no sandpaper (lining) in the pockets. Unfortunately, to get a re...

And what if after that ”once”, I have the volume up and Wi-Fi on?
