How can I get grayscale mode on my Toshiba laptop (for focus' sake)

I'd like to reduce the allure of websurfing and time-wasting by turning my computer into a grayscale machine. How can I do that?
My laptop is a Toshiba E570. There's no discrete GPU. Running Cinnamon Mint 19.1.

Installed Noto Color Emoji font. I have Qs about Character Map program

Question 1 I'd like to be able to type emojis on my Linux Mint laptop (pariticularly in Gimp) as we can in our Android phones. So I installed Noto Color Emoji (https://www.google.com/get/noto/help/emoji/) from https://github.com/googlei18n/noto-emoji/ . In Character Map, I choose "Noto Color Emoji" ...

Re: How can I save the default save-to folder when I press the PrintScreen button?

Thanks, Kyphi. The second command you shared did the trick. If I recall, in an older version of Mint (I can't remember if it was Cinnamon or Mate or Xfce I was using then), whatever your last-saved folder was was the save-to folder for future PrintScreen presses. It's a cute hamster eating a carrot....

How can I change the default save-to folder when I press the PrintScreen button? [solved]

[I am not sure if I'm posting in the appropriate subforum. I thought this could fit under the "Software" too. Let me know if this is the wrong forum, and I'll request the mods to move it.] Using Cinnamon 19.1 Tessa, I press PrintScreen button on my computer and I see a "Save Screenshot" window pop u...

What is the Cinnamon equivalent for Tellico, a KDE app?

I've received a .TC file which is to be opened by Tellico. Tellico is a KDE app (http://tellico-project.org/), and I prefer to stick to apps meant for my Cinnamon Mint 19.1 Tessa. What would be the native app for me?

Re: How do I get wine-stable to install an exe program?

Kindle 1.17 (the version I gather you're trying to install) was rated Platinum for Wine 2.15, Hi pbear, thanks for taking the time to write back. Yes, Kindle 1.17 wine-3.0 (Ubuntu 3.0-1ubuntu1) is what I have, BTW. A few things you could try, no promises. First, I assume you ran winecfg already. Ha...

Re: How do I get wine-stable to install an exe program?

It's a shame how screwed up Wine has become. There may be a more elegant solution, but what I've been doing in LM19 is installing apps in Terminal, using a command in the form wine /path/to/app.exe . If the path and/or app filename are long, copy-and-paste from File Manager: Properties. This works ...

Looking for an Android app that will allow me to use only the 3 apps I've explicitly whitelisted

I'm pepperminty and I'm a, gulp, phoneaholic. I've been sober for 23 minutes. I'm looking for help. I'm looking for something that will lock down my phone and will only let me use one of three apps when I tell it to. The three apps are Amazon Kindle, Moon Reader, and Play Books. I've checked out man...

Re: I want my VLC to be a dark theme, just like the rest of my mint (using Mint Y Dark)

After my post 2 minutes ago, I did

sudo apt install qt5ct qt5-style-plugins

and restarted VLC and now VLC is back to a dark theme. :) I guess I need q5ct for VLC to be dark themed.

Re: I want my VLC to be a dark theme, just like the rest of my mint (using Mint Y Dark)

I upgraded from Cinnamon Mint 19.0 to 19.1 and now VLC is back to a light theme. gm10, there are three options under "window style":

1. Fusion
2. Windows
3. System's default

None of the 3 give me dark theme.
