Re: How can I go directly from the crypt password to my desktop, bypassing username/password screen?

hi rene,

I'm now at the "Remove Encryption" section. I ran sudo rm -rf /home/pepperminty but it says
rm: cannot remove '/home/pepperminty': Device or resource busy
In case you're wondering, I'm logged into the temporary account I've just created a minute ago.

Re: How can I go directly from the crypt password to my desktop, bypassing username/password screen?

How can I undo home-disk encryption while keeping full-disk encryption? I read somewhere that it's better to have full-disk encryption, rather than home-disk encryption.

Re: How can I go directly from the crypt password to my desktop, bypassing username/password screen?

I run mount -t ecryptfs and see this: /home/.ecryptfs/pepperminty/.Private on /home/pepperminty type ecryptfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime,ecryptfs_fnek_sig=7bb7aeddfbb68224,ecryptfs_sig=206d028ef66dd709,ecryptfs_cipher=aes,ecryptfs_key_bytes=16,ecryptfs_unlink_sigs) So does this mean I have double enc...

Re: How can I go directly from the crypt password to my desktop, bypassing username/password screen?

If I recall corectly, I didn't choose both "home-directory encryption" and "full-disk encryption". IIRC, when I did the fresh install, the installer asked me about encryption, and I chose Encrypt the entire volume/disk. Is there a way to check which of the 2 (or whether both) encryptions I have on m...

Re: How can I go directly from the crypt password to my desktop, bypassing username/password screen?

Hi Rene, thanks for your reply. I did as you said and supplied my username in the "username" blank in the "Automatic login" section of "Users" section of "Login Window". Even after a reboot, however, I still need to enter my username and password. When I mouse-hover over the word "Username" in the L...

[solved] How can I go directly from the crypt password to my desktop, bypassing username/password screen?

When I boot up my Linux Mint 19.3 computer, I first see an "sda3_crypt" blank with an Linux Mint logo and a black background. After I enter that, I then am taken to a screen where it asks for the username and password (the same password as sudo). How can I go directly from the sda3_crypt password bl...

On landlines where I have to first dial 9 to get dialtone, "*67" (to hide my number) doesn't work.

On a regular landline phone, I can hide my phone number from showing up, by first dialing *67 . But on some landline phones, on those phones where I have to first dial 9 to get an "outside line", adding *67 doesn't do anything. How then can I keep my phone number from showing up on the other person'...

Sometimes macchanger -r -a seems to give MAC addresses that don't connect with Wifi.

For privacy, I like to randomize the Mint computer's MAC address before connecting to the WIFI (sudo macchanger -r -a wlp5s0). When I connect with the computer's real MAC address, connecting to the Wifi takes just one second. With some randomized MAC addresses of the same kind ( -r -a ) , though, it...

For my privacy, how can I randomize my MAC address before connecting to wifi?

When I log into my Mint 19.3 Cinnamon desktop, I turn off the wifi (using the applet by the lower right corner, near the clock), then open the terminal, and run sudo macchanger -r -a wlp5s0 . How can I automate this?

thanks, smurphos! When I get to my linux mint laptop, I plan to do the edits you have helpfully suggested! I've deleted all the other languages. Now the file looks like this: [Desktop Entry] Icon=cs-mouse Exec=cinnamon-settings mouse Type=Application OnlyShowIn=X-Cinnamon; Categories=Settings; Name=...

Thanks for your reply, Moem.

Okay... is there a way to remove the link between "synaptics' and "mouse and touchpad". This is my computer, and for me, synaptics is all about Synaptic Package Manager. I want to personalize my computer.

I tap WindowsLogo & search for Syna, I get "Mouse&Touchpad". I don't want that. I want Synaptic Manager.

When I press the Windows Logo on my keyboard (which brings up the Mint Menu), and start typing "Syna"..., I see "Mouse and Touchpad" over "Synaptic Package Manager". Why do I see "Mouse and Touchpad"? And how do I remove "Mouse and Touchpad" from the search results of '"Syna"...?

Oops, I realized I didn't end up installing ADE in Wine, as I used the Windows computers at school.

I installed Wine through Software Manager. (I have Mint 19.3 Cinnamon on my computer). IIRC, I installed Adobe Digital Edition (for Windows) through Wine. But when I search for Adobe Digital Editions in my main mint menu, it can't find it. How can I easily start up ADE?
