Re: Update Manager is not auto-upgrading the packages

I blame my phone, it likes to eat words (it actually does :P). I meant that if you disable automatic refresh then only restarting Update Manager itself will lead to new updates popping up. First tab of Update Manager's Preferences window. ha ha. So this is how the first tab (called "Options" on Min...

Re: Update Manager is not auto-upgrading the packages

Hi again, gm10. Did you see my latest cat /var/log/mintupdate.log ? No more errors that would break auto-upgrades, right? Because of the latter issue I suggest you instead go Update Manager > Preferences and I believe in your version it was called the Auto-refresh tab, and change the schedule there ...

Re: Update Manager is not auto-upgrading the packages

Then you'll probably need to set up an hourly cron hob to run the updates. I don't know how, but I'm sure someone will come along who does. Hmmm... I don't need the auto-upgrades to happen every hour. I just don't want to see the Update Manager icon on the notification panel. it's noise for me. It'...

Re: Update Manager is not auto-upgrading the packages

I don't know how long it shows, but I'd rather not see it at all.

On my Android 8.0 phone (Galaxy S9), I have the Play Store to auto-upgrade the apps. It won't ever show me apps needing updates. It does everything behind the scenes. That's what I want for my Mint experience.

Re: Update Manager is not auto-upgrading the packages

Dear all, I have removed the "[Solved]" tag from the title of this thread because I still see the Update Manager icon in my panel. There's still packages that are not automatically updated. It's as if Auto-upgrade isn't working at all. Please help. ~ $ cat /var/log/mintupdate.log Reading package lis...

Re: Update Manager is not auto-upgrading the packages

Thanks, Zgl1500, JerryF, philotux and gm10 for your help and input.

I've manually installed the updates to get rid of the Update Manager shield icon on my panel. I've marked this thread as solved.

gm10, having a gui notification for fails is a great idea.

With Apply updates automatically in Update Manager, yes, that's on a daily basis. The warning about setting up Timeshift is only a warning. The Update Manager will update your programs, etc. but has nothing to do with running Timeshift.
What exactly is wrong with my auto-upgrade feature?

Re: Update Manager is not auto-upgrading the packages

gm10, thank you for your reply. I'm showing a screenshot of Timeshift because the AutoUpgrade tab says it will not proceed with autoupgrades unless timeshift is set up. ~ $ cat /var/log/mintupdate.log Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/apt/cache.py", line 544, in...

Re: Update Manager is not auto-upgrading the packages

jerryF, Thanks for your reply. If I'm understanding you correctly, you're saying that Update Manager's auto-upgrade feature actually looks at the frequency of timeshifts.

When I read the text in the Auto-upgrade tab (cf. screenshot), auto-upgrade is supposed to happen daily.

Update Manager is not auto-upgrading the packages

I have timeshift set up. It's been about 5 days since I set up timeshift and autoupgrade. My Timeshift is set up to sync itself every week. Why do I think/say that the auto-upgrade is not working? Because I still see the Update Manager applet (shaped like a shield) in my notification section of my p...

[solved]i have free space on my sda5 (so Nemo), but not according to gparted. Why?

Why does my encrypted sda5 appear like there's no space (according to gparted), when in fact I have 62 GB of free space (according to Nemo)

Re: why does my mint 19 boot into terminal

I figured it out now. I neglected to do step 10C the first time I did it. But now that I've done step 10C, I don't have this problem anymore.

what's the name of this PC game I played a few years ago? [solved]

i played a game a few years ago, maybe in 2016. it was an indie game. one person created the entire game. i think it is two sylabbles. single player game. I played it on Windows OS. (It may be available on linux, but I played it on Windows OS) you start your game, IIRC, outside of a building, and th...
