Re: Any negative ramifications for using multiple-Google-account sign-in setup?

If the only downside is ads, I don't mind.

Actually, can someone confirm that this multilple-account thingy is just on our browser, and not something that Google knows?

Any negative ramifications for using multiple-Google-account sign-in setup?

On a desktop/laptop browser, I can add multiple Google Accounts for easy switching back and forth. multiple_google_accounts.png Does using this multiiple-account setup have negative ramifications? For example: 1. Will Google now know that one individual owns mulitple accounts? 2. Will Google use tha...

Re: How to see which programs are using bandwidth (and minimize usage) while on cellular data plan

Have a look at Nethogs ... it might already be installed on your system. Thanks for sharing. I like it. But is a program that shows per-program bandwidth usage for the past ____ (fill the blank with "10 minutes" or "hour" or some user-specified period)? Coz I can't keep looking at the terminal ever...

thanks, wh7qq.
I use Firefox too (with ublock origin). I'll try to remember to use noscript.

the pi solution won't work for me. I don't use a router. My internet would be coming from my smartphone.

How to see which programs are using bandwidth (and minimize usage) while on cellular data plan

How can I determine which programs (whether they're those that I have run consciously or programs that are running in the background) are using up the internet bandwidth, and see how much bandwidth reach is using. I ask because I plan to use my cell phone data to connect to the internet and I want t...

Look under Network from System Settings:

I think he wants a metered connection that limits the data usage on wifi, not turning the computer into a hotspot itself
Jeremy is right.

How can I get Mint 18.3 to treat a certain wifi connection as a mobile hotspot?

How can I get my Mint 18.3 to treat a particular wifi connection as a mobile hotspot? In other words, when I'm using a particular wifi connection, I don't want to only use bandwidth that I explicitly tell it to -- like the webpages I'm visiting. On Windows 10 computers, you have an option of marking...

Re: Can no longer resuscitate ThinkPad by removing CMOS battery, laptop batt, AC adapter [solved]

I'm really relieved. My attempt to make a nice and working ThinkPad out of two nice - but half broken ThinkPads ended in a complete fiasco. As a result, the fate of your ThinkPad has been very close to my heart. Thanks. I still don't understand what exactly the problem is, nor do I understand how m...

Re: Can no longer resuscitate ThinkPad by removing CMOS battery, laptop batt, AC adapter

Wed May 9 10:18:30 PDT 2018 The laptop is working again. Just 10 minutes ago, I tried to power it on. I plugged in AC power, and pressed the power button, but it wouldn't power on. I then removed battery, and then unplugged AC cord from laptop, then plugged in power cord again to laptop while pressi...

Re: Can no longer resuscitate ThinkPad by removing CMOS battery, laptop batt, AC adapter

I have an update. Last Wednesday, I got some tech people to help me with this problem. They got me to replace the CMOS battery. They had a container full of CMOS batteries taken from other laptops. I put one of these other batteries in. I also tried to be mindful of several things: --shut down compu...

laptop's built-in mic not working anymore [solved]

Using Mint Cinnamon 18.3. My ThinkPad T430 comes with an all-in-one audio jack. It can accept a stereo earphone jack (2 rings on metal tip), or it can also work with a combo mic-and-ear audio jack (3 rings on metal tip). I use my earphones for the most. I use the mic-and-ear combo unit only once in ...

Replace the mobo.
If the mobo needs to be replaced, I'll just get another laptop. This laptop cost me $180USD when I bought it in Summer 2017. I hear a mobo could be half htat price, and who knows whether a replacement mobo will last

Re: Can no longer resuscitate ThinkPad by removing CMOS battery, laptop batt, AC adapter

Let me be clear.I hear no beeps before this problem... Well, of course not, under normal operating conditions you wouldn't. But now something is certainly different than before, right? OK. I was just stating this clarification to say that I hear no beeps now (laptop not working) and no beeps before...

The power button is on the keyboard. If the keyboard is unplugged, powering on or off is definitely not gonna work. :)

Re: How can I play my smartphone's music in a car that has just radio/CD? (pic included)

Here is a pic of the rear of my audio system. https://i.imgur.com/7jIk8GJ.png Now... Your cell phone does not have RCA ports, lol. But it probably has a headphone jack. Yes, it does have a headphone jack. Once you figure out which specific part would have been included from the factory if you'd paid...
