Re: Check this before upgrading LMDE Cinnamon/GnomeShell to
I have just updated to the current (7up). This is my 3rd time. Using the expose, the background is solid black. This wasn't the case before the 7up update. I used only the original theme, cinnamon before and after the 7up update. I also tried out minty transparent and get the black background durin...

Re: LinuxMint Debian binaries the same as debian.org ?
You can use Debian repositories with LMDE, as it's just a snapshot of testing at a point in time. These snapshots are released in Update Packs and the goal is to create a compromise between stable and testing, with newer packages but little (but hopefully no) breakage. There are many here who use th...

Re: LMDE Boot Failure
How are you creating your Live USB? I tried making one with Unetbootin, but it didn't work. The Universal USB Installer from http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/ worked for me.stuchl4n3k wrote:Same problem here on Dell Vostro 3300. Re: LMDE Suggestion
Although LMDE is based on Debian testing, I find it very stable. I run Wheezy on another box I own and it's very good as well. But what makes you think LMDE is not that stable? To me Cinnamon on top of Jessie works very well. :D By looking at the comments regarding Update Pack 7 and it's breaking a...

Re: LMDE Suggestion
Why can't LMDE just be based off of Debian Stable, instead of messing things up with Testing!. Since the Ubuntu version has a poor support cycle for non-LTS releases, LMDE based on Wheezy would be a better option for many. Also since the KDE developers may bee entirely giving up on Ubuntu, thanks t...

Re: Several Cinnamon desktop issues afer installation
Yeah, it seems like a pretty common issue. I noticed you're running an Intel HD Graphics card in your laptop (just like I am).
Maybe that has something to do with it. Anyways, glad it worked for you too!

Re: Several Cinnamon desktop issues afer installation
I managed to fix it by following the advice here: https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/issues/696
The command fixed it for me.
The command
Code: Select all
gsettings set org.nemo.desktop background-fade false

Re: Several Cinnamon desktop issues afer installation
I have this problem too. Unfortunately for me, killing and restarting Nemo and Cinnamon only fixes the problem for a second, the background turns black again almost instantly.

Re: Difference with regular Debian ?
Right now it's probably not a fair comparison because Testing is frozen and not likely to break. But when testing is working like it should, things can break and the user have no idea how to fix them. UPs provide information along with each update, as well as solutions to problems that might arise. ...

Yeah, that didn't effect me because I'm on testing. The good news is that it'll work as soon as UP5 should come out!

Have you tried replacing network-manager with WICD?
It's sometimes an easy fix to weird network-manager issues.

Re: Glippy for LMDE - anyone have .deb that works?
I thought, hey, I could use a clipboard manager. On Debian Testing, Glippy works fine for me by just manually downloading the latest Glippy .deb from the launchpad page: https://launchpad.net/~bikooo/+archive/glippy/+packages I didn't install the ubuntu-mono-icons package because I don't think I nee...

Re: Update Pack 5 release date?
Using Google Chrome now, everything seems to be fine. What I like especially when installing certain apps like Chrome from Google is it automatically adds itself to your list of repos for updates. This could be a handy feature for all future apps for LMDE as well. Apps messing up the sources.list t...

Re: Update Pack 5 release date?
I use Debian testing and honestly, I get tired of having multiple new updates every day. Once wheezy goes stable, I plan on converting that one too to LMDE and getting my updates in UPs from now on.
It's easy enough to get packages from upstream when I want them.

Re: Update packs and sources
Regarding firefox, there are many ways to upgrade to 14 from LMDE. You can download and install it manually from Mozilla, install it through apt-pinning, or following Mozilla's guide: http://mozilla.debian.net/ - This way is easiest. NOTE: you will be installing iceweasel, not firefox. They're almos...
