Re: Linux Mint 18.1 - Sound spikes

Strange issue - are you sure you're not hitting a key somewhere? Well, at least I don't think I am :) And even if this is the case: which key would do something like that in any context (desktop only, firefox, vlc, etc.)? To be on the safe side, I've unplugged the mouse and the keyboard, and the sp...

Re: Linux Mint 18.1 - Sound spikes

Thanks for the quick answer! Strange issue - are you sure you're not hitting a key somewhere? Well, at least I don't think I am :) And even if this is the case: which key would do something like that in any context (desktop only, firefox, vlc, etc.)? By the way, I'll state the obvious, but the issue...

Linux Mint 18.1 - Sound spikes

Hi! I just installed Linux Mint 18.1 + Xfce, and I have issues with the sound. Every 5 seconds approximately (the phenomenon is not periodic per say), the sound level switches from high to medium and immediately switches back. This is not audible but I can clearly see in the volume applet the cursor...

Re: Cinnamon high CPU usage in Mint 18

FWI, I have the exact same issue (I have opened a new thread here https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=208&t=238256, thinking this one was closed and considering it did not solve the issue for me). But since nobody seems to have the slightest clue about what happens, I think I'll soon switch...

Re: Cinnamon repetitive freezes/lags

No luck with the first command: --no entries-- (but it made me realize that some random Chinese IP was repeatedly trying to log as root on my machine ) Here is the result of the second one: journalctl --no-pager -b -p3 -- Logs begin at mar. 2017-01-24 21:34:30 CET, end at mar. 2017-01-24 22:0...

Cinnamon repetitive freezes/lags

Hi! I've just installed Linux Mint 18.1 Cinnamon (previous distro was an old LMDE, also with Cinnamon). I experience the following issue: every 10 to 20 seconds, the GUI freezes for about 1 sec, and then continue as usual. These lags coincide with spurs in CPU activity up to 100%, as shown by this s...

Re: Must refresh internet pages to ensure correct display

One apt-get update later, the problem is back ! You should be using the 8168B driver . . not the 8169 Yeah, that seams fairly logical, but apparently the one installed is the r8169. I'm sorry I'm quite new to Linux and even more to drivers management : how can I install the correct one ? Silverspur

Re: Must refresh internet pages to ensure correct display

does that mean I should not have made an "apt-get dist-upgrade Yes, mint recommends a fresh install. Ok, thanks, I did not know that  Just to be thorrow on the subject : one can make as much apt-get update as one wants, but once in a while one needs to reinstall the whole distribution from a ...

Re: Must refresh internet pages to ensure correct display

Thank you for your answer, though I'm not sure to undersdand correctly : does that mean I should not have made an "apt-get dist-upgrade", but only an "apt-get upgrade" ?

Re: Problem setting locales for ONE user

Hi ! Thanks for the answer ! Further investigation has shown that the "problematic" user has $LANG=fr_FR instead of $LANG=fr_FR.utf8, causing some of the words to be written in English. So, the question is, how can I (cleanly) remove user-specific locales settings, so that the system locales apply t...

Problem setting locales for ONE user

Hi ! I've recently installed LMDE and I've had a small issue with locales : even with a "dpkg-reconfigure locales" specifying fr_FR.utf8, gnome kept displaying the task bar and contextual menus in English. Apparently, there was no "fr" file in /usr/share/locale so I installed "locale-all" to get one...
