Re: Windows 7 Surpasses XP In Usage

At the company I work for, contractors for IBM, we are still using Win XP. Though we got fairly new machines that originally came with Vista back in January, IBM removed it and installed XP. I do hope they install Win 7 on our machines at least in the computer room.

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - tracking Testing - read here first-6/o

I understand zerozero and appreciate the help. I've done nothing special or different. I've been running testing since I installed LMDE. When I would see some odd remove issues doing a full-upgrade, then I would run safe-upgrade instead. As you said earlier, I guess I shouldn't have ran the safe-upg...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - tracking Testing - read here first-6/o

Ok, it seems I'm stuck with gnome-font-viewer , I can't seem to remove it and sometimes if I upgrade it may show it's not installed but it is. So for now I'll leave things like it is, until more Gnome 3 stuff comes in. $ sudo aptitude show gnome-font-viewer Package: gnome-font-viewer New: yes State:...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - tracking Testing - read here first-6/o

Try swapping to LightDM it is now in the testing repos. I have had it up and running for about a month, I really like it. If you don't like it, swap back with galternatives or update-alternatives. :Edit: Or just edit /etc/X11/default-display-manager and change it back to /usr/sbin/gdm3 from /usr/sb...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - tracking Testing - read here first-6/o

It looks like some Gnome 3 dependencies are coming in now. Since I was able to get a clean full-upgrade a couple of days ago, now I'm seeing this: aptitude full-upgrade The following NEW packages will be installed: gnome-font-viewer{ab} libaacplus2{a} The following packages will be upgraded: apache2...

try the following (but use it at your own risk, and in doubt copy-paste the output here) - disable for moments the mint repo, do a update and full-upgrade - have to warn you that with this move you will loose the patched libcairo2 (responsible for the fonts, after that they may not look so great - ...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - tracking Testing - read here first-6/o

After doing a safe-upgrade over the weekend, what happens if you do a full-upgrade? what pkgs are waiting to be updated? safe-upgrade is not the way to go with a rolling release, at least not as a rule. I normally do a full-upgrade but at times it wants to install or remove some packages, in this c...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - tracking Testing - read here first-6/o

After doing a safe-upgrade over the weekend, which didn't offer to upgrade those x files, and rebooting, now my GDM comes up huge, the fonts are large it seems. The screen also moves as I move the mouse. I have a usb mouse and keyboard, so when I try to sign in, I can't type anything. I can choose t...

Re: Virtual Box Errors

After searching I found how to install the headers.

sudo aptitude install linux-headers-3.0.0-1-686-pae

Then I had to run 'sudo /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup' and all is well.

I should have known to do a search, I guess working 3rd shift and half sleepy, I'm not thinking straight.

Thanks.

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - tracking Testing - read here first-10/

What do most of you run from cli when it comes to updating, aptitude full-upgrade or aptitude safe-upgrade? I'm just curious. This is my source list, what do you think of it? This is the default sources. Any suggestions/ideas? $ cat /etc/apt/sources.list deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian ups...

Here's my LMDE using Openbox with Tint2 panel and Audacious music player. This is just something I threw together and haven't made much changes since.
