Re: Default applications

Something like this happened to me too, eveything would open with nautilus instead of using the file's default application. The problem was that someway some mimeype bindings got messed up and pointed to nautilus; i think this is probably what's happening to you. Given that your wife account is work...

Re: Stuck in upgrade

Weird, i have never encountered this changelog screen when updating, either through apt-get or some GUI... Anyway, for the ":" at the end of the terminal output, i would say that the interface is pretty much the same used on man or vim, you could try pressing "q" and then <Enter>...

Re: How do I get the most recent versions of my applications

If you want to keep most of your system stable you should install the package manually, or momentarily enable sid/testing repos, install any package i need and then disable them.

Re: Warzone 2100 is crazy slow

You should probably check out the game official webpage, IMO the slowniless you are suffering isn't LMDE specific. You can start giving a look to the FAQ in the game page http://guide.wz2100.net/faq#slow, there's one entry about your problem. For what i read it's probably a video card driver issue, ...

Re: LMDE File system using all 20gb partition

Try running the Disk Usage Analyser utility (baobab) over the root partition to have an idea of which file/folder is the one using up all the disk space.

Re: ATI/AMD Driver causes garbled/malformed/broken menus

Have you tried using the sgfxi script? It automates most video driver installations, giving you the posibility to choose between the diferent driver alternatives for your system. In my experience, it worked out very nicely and fixed most of the graphic issues i had when using gnu+linux. Give it a tr...

Re: No updates?

Adding ppa's and ubuntu-ish staff in a Debian installation is not a good idea, cause there is a serious possibility that eventually, you ll end up with a damaged system. There's probably a big chance that using a ppa will broke the application you are updating from there, but i don't know about dam...

Re: No updates?

I don't really know why Mint devs aren't letting pass over to incoming some security updates, or even any package not related to gnome3 or gtk3 (since this seems to be the reason of the updates dry up). Maybe they don't got time to manage the update-packs right now, but they should give us some furt...

Re: UPDATE PACK 3 FEEDBACK THREAD

For those that had the expander button issue (oddly positioned and not working very well) like me, i found out a workaround: Create the file ".gtkrc-2.0" (if it isn't there yet) in your home directory and add this code to it #expander fix style "expanderfix" { GtkExpander::expand...

Re: UPDATE PACK 3 FEEDBACK THREAD

Agreed. Less important packages should be let through to 'incoming' guinea pigs, perhaps holding back more 'important' updates (kernel, GCC etc), to once a month, then we can test the viability of the updates. I was swamped and had to install in chunks, until it became more manageable. I second tha...

Re: UPDATE PACK 3 FEEDBACK THREAD

in the update manager the button "show for individual files" does not work anymore, see screenshot below. You can push it hundreds of time, but nothing will happen. ... By the way, while using GIMP to generate the image, I noticed that somthing similar happens in the "Save as" w...

Re: UPDATE PACK 2 FEEDBACK THREAD

The gdebi (and gdebi-core) update from this update pack have the same problem that gcalc and system-monitor, it regress to an uglier interface. I had to downgrade it back to the debian-stable repository version 0.6.4 to get the minty look back. Also, althought i'm not completly sure if it's related ...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - read here first - Update 22 june 2011

The mesa update messed up my nvdia drivers too, but somehow i managed to get my mint back in track :F What i did: 1- Luckyly i had added the debian squeeze repository a while ago, so i installed back the old libgl1-mesa-glx package ( sudo apt-get install liblgl1-mesa-glx/stable ), wich at the same t...

Re: LMDE 32/64 samba breakage after update

I have a similar problem with my LMDE, some time ago the samba server started acting oddly. The only way i could find to make the network function so other PC's can access to my printer, is restarting samba through "sudo /etc/init.d/samba restart"; it's a bother to do it everytime someone ...
