Re: ccsm=compiz in lisa
Hi, If you are already using a different desktop, then press Alt + F2 and run the command "compiz --replace" to test compiz. If it works you can then configure your desktop to have compiz automatically run on start up. Installing fusion-icon is what some people prefer to do this, or you could creat...

Re: Wow. Horrible.
Meh. Been using it for a couple of hours now, and I just don't like it as well as I liked Mint 10 and 11. I hate the upper task bar, and I hate that the other notifications aren't down on the bottom right where I like them. I also really hate the new Start Menu. The old Mint Menu was almost perfect...

Nope, no GDM. Using Lightdm and Unity-Greeter. How about that?

Re: recover lost files
Now that I have traversed the links and read the information I consider that road ahead is not worth traveling. Why can't it just be simple? i would consider R-Studio the easiest program to use because of its nice GUI and which shows the actual files. The demo is only capable of recovering a small am...

In Lisa 12 RC
If you do this:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/gnome3
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gnome-shell-extensions-autohidetopbar
It won't work without changing the default distribution from "lisa" to "oneiric"

I would suggest that you bust a move cause "Lisa" isn't coming to the party until later.douglasawh wrote:Any way we can get some sort of ETA? I'm having a lot of issues with Mint 11 and that will affect my decision as to if I should move to Fedora or something to see if newer kernels fix the issues.

This issue has been discussed in detail - in other Threads in this Forum. Most recently, here > http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=54881&p=471522&hilit=recover+lost+files#p471522 * The LinuxMint Forum has a fairly decent 'Search' feature. recover lost files
I recently made a backup / restore mistake. Here's the situation. Have 1 hard drive 3 partitions SDA1 running Mint SDA2 running Ubuntu SDA3 open Here's the story: Copied files from 1 to 2 but didn't like how things were so reinstalled 2 unaware that instead of copying the files I inadvertently MOVED...

Re: Mint 11 breaks my internet connection
As far as I know there are no differences in the network settings nor the hardware drivers. IE: Ubuntu distros. I have run numinous distros of Ubuntu and derivatives and never had a connectivity problem. This may be a switch issue rather than a OS issue. Throwing caution to the wind I would say the ...

Re: Mint 11 breaks my internet connection
Hello. I am a volunteer at a non-profit organization that refurbishes old hardware to give away. I usually install Ubuntu 10.04 or XP on the machines. I've been hearing good things about Mint lately, so I thought I would give it a try. In the building, we have a 4 port router with each port connect...

Re: WORKGROUP vs MSHOME
The best part of the banter is, no one really cares whether its WORKGROUP or MSHOME or MYHOME or LINUX_NETWORK. As long as each PC has the network setting the same they will all talk to on another.

Re: Boot splash on Katya?
I'm having the same problem.I used to have a nice bootsplash which I got by installing plymouth-theme-mint-logo' and 'plymouth-theme-mint-text'. But when I installed BURG, it displays the same error message (could not start boot splash: Cannot access a needed shared library.) While booting to Mint....

Re: Linux Mint 12, and beyond?
Since this last posting we still have seen some changes. Gnome has forked and it is believed that most Ubuntu derivatives will not follow the Unity campaign. The fitments of Unity into the netbook are like Android for phones. I think desktop pc's and laptops are not going to be a Ubuntu goal in the ...
