Re: Mint running slow, APU A8-4500K

Also "BogoMIPS" value is always roughly double of max "CPU MHz" speed. So since you say CPU is 1.9Ghz then 3793.03 seems about right. My CPU on my ThinkPad x301 is 1.4 Ghz and my lscpu results in: CPU MHz: 800.000 BogoMIPS: 2794.57 So your cpu IS 1.9Ghz the OS simply uses OnDemand so that its not al...

You care correct. Also because Cinnamon is much newer, things will settle with time. But also its a good sign of the massive attention given to Cinnamon by it's maintainers.

Re: Where do unsuccessfully 'cut' files go?

Good question. They have to be somewhere even temporarily. I tried cut and pasting a video from my laptop to external drive and it was not successful and I lost it completely. So good question. Since then I've always done "copy", paste then manual delete.

Re: Why does CPU run fast when running Linux?

I think he's talking about his CPU cooling fan speed. If so check your BIOS first. Make sure its up to date. Also, post your hardware specs here as well. Also try to install Sensors Applet: sudo apt-get install sensors-applet Is it already installed? The try (answer yes to everythiing)... sudo senso...

Re: Installing Linux positive experience

Congrats! This is all stepping stones and you'll find Mint is probably THE best for beginners who want to enter the Linux work. The question now is, will you become a distro hopper and become addicted to the rush of something new & the rush of accomplishment? Or will you stay with one or two distros...

same here. Have to hold power button for 5 - 10 seconds to reboot. What was that about Linux vs Windows and crashing etc? JK :)

Reinstalled OS and went over things and works perfectly now! I was gonna use Mate but I want the Gnome 3 benefits and Mate is basically Gnome 2 as intended.

Mint 12 "Move clock" too far right? (screenshot inside)

Below is my Mint 12 Gnome Shell screenshots. I'm using the Frippery "move clock" extension but it moves the clock too far right. How can I manually fix this so that the shutdown menu is the "after" the clock? thanks! Screenshots: https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Qbb-Iu3J20M/TtTRSyMKyVI/AAAAAAAAAJ0...

Re: Locking my CPU to “performance” governor on ac AND batte

The changes you make here will only be temporary,
Yea already use that. That's how I figured out it was stuck to .8ghz using on demand.

As you can see from screenshot above (look for the line "cpufreq stats") I've already figured out how to make frequency settings permanent.

thx

Re: Locking my CPU to “performance” governor on ac AND batte

Naa! cpufreq does NOT work as it's supposed to on my system. Majority of the times I would be watching videos on vevo.com and it's stays at .8ghz or sometimes 1.2ghz and the video tears, skips, freezes for tiny bits and audio gets messed up. Since I locked it that is fixed and it plays fine. Or I wo...

Locking my CPU to “performance” governor on ac AND battery

Basically a few days ago I replaced Windows 7 with Linux Mint 11 on my Lenovo x301. Linux is addictive! Linux Mint (imo a more polished version of Ubuntu) has a sweet little add-on which is the CPU Frequency Scaling Monitor that you can use to adjust your CPU performance on the fly. You should test ...
