Re: LXDE 32 INSTALL DEADLOCK

Since you are able to make posts here, you must have some kind of an environment with internet access. Using that environment, you can download the windows driver ands save it to a usb stick. Then just install the driver from the usb stick on to the live cd to get internet access.

Re: Mint 11 LiveUSB Freezes Like Clockwork

You might need a bigger usb flash drive. 1 GB might be too small. I just made one on a 16 GB flash with a 4 GB persistence file. It does behave a bit differently from the DVD probably due to the way the installation was made. But it does work and I am posting this from it right now. You might try a ...

Re: hibernation failure [solved]

Since you don't really have much on this PC then it doesn't matter how much you use it, as long as you got got the important files moved somewhere else. Using the PC lightly is so the degradation of the HD is slowed enough that you can get everything off to another drive while minimizing data loss. ...

Re: I can't boot into Mint 11

Try rebooting off of the disc and and select recovery mode. Then select the grub reinstall option. it should reinstall the grub boot loader. When you boot up, Grub will show you a menu for you to select which OS to run.

Re: Sudo and Gnome desktop not working

I tried to reinstall sudo. That had no effect. I found a log file that was telling me why my gnome desktop was not coming up. GDM was apparently hanging with a black screen as dbus-launch and gnome-sessions was not executing from permissions denied. I checked the permission on those files, and they ...

Re: hibernation failure

Your only other option at this point is to back up your critical files that can't be replaced to some other media. You can continue to use the system, but the HD will get more bad sectors as time passes the system may become unstable as a result. I ended up dealing with this under win XP last year. ...

Re: hibernation failure

Bad sectors is usually an indication that your HD is about to bite the dust. You'll want to get a new HD and image the old drive over to the new new drive using some kind of a drive imaging utility.Preferably one that boots up off of a cd or DVD. My personal favorite is Hiren's Boot CD. It's a good ...

Sudo and Gnome desktop not working

A couple of weekends ago I was trying to find out why a windows program that was working under wine had stopped working all of a sudden. While I was in the middle of doing that, I discovered that the sudo command was no longer working. When trying to use it a couple of errors would be displayed. The...

Re: Catch 22 - need to be on sudoers list to add yourself!

If you are running from a DVD and are having unusual problems with it, you might want to check the iso file that you used to burn the DVD with against it's MD5 check sum for a match. If it does not match, you will want to redownload the iso and check the MD5 again. I failed to do that the first time...

Hi William. Perhaps this link will be of interest to you. http://apcmag.com/why_i_quit_kernel_developer_con_kolivas.htm As I see it, he's pretty much in the same boat as you are. He was getting no where with the kernel developers and decided to quit. Perhaps he thought better of it and that is why h...

Re: ndiswrapper Wifi Driver Issue

Were you able to resolve this issue? Even though ssb is blacklisted check to see if it is loaded as another module may be causing it to load. If that is the case then unload ssb and then ndiswrapper. Then reload ndiswrapper. If that works then you will want to make a startup script that does this fo...

Re: any problems with Dell laptops?

I'm on an old Dell Latitude D400 running LM 11 Katya. The only issues I've seen so far are slow playback of videos, unable to get the b43 native wifi driver to work, and unable to get 3d graphics support to work. As for the 3d graphics problem, I am not sure if it is a wine problem or a linux displa...

Re: Blueman install problem LM 11 Katya

I found a solution to the problem. While working on something else in the App Startup under the control center, I unchecked the bluetooth manager and then did a reboot. Blueman was able to install after that since the default bluetooth manager was not running.

[Solved]Blueman install problem LM 11 Katya

My understanding is that blue man is supposed to uninstall the default bluetooth manager and install itself in it's place. When I do sudo apt-get install blueman it does a partial install and then aborts installation with the following error: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Re...

Re: J-Pilot PDA sync software error

Well about three months later and I finally decided to tackle this problem again. Back in July, when the apt-get install of J-Pilot had problems, I uninstalled it and tried to compile it from source. I never was able to finish that project due to dependency hell and the fact some of the dependencies...

Re: software for Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 camera

I have a Lumix DMC-FZ8 and I just plug it into a usb port and it comes up has an external hard drive in LM 11 Katya. As for the windows apps on trhe cd's, your welcome to try them under wine, but you'll probably want the native Linux apps.

Re: Fancontrol - pwmconfig problem

You might want to do a google search on your system to learn more about it's hardware. Also check to see if there are any specific fan drivers available for your system in Linux that is not in the mainstream kernel. My system is an old Dell and required the I8K fan driver for instance.

Re: Network Manager Issue

You can try another network manager to see if it is really the network manager such as wicd for instance. If it is the network manager then hopefully a new manager will fix the issue. If that doesn't fix it then you will probably want to take a look at the wireless and ethernet drivers themselves. I...
