Re: Linux Mint 19.3 on Ryzen' CPU compatibility
Linux Mint 19.3 reached end of life in April last year. Those framework laptops you mention, their CPU and GPU are from this year. To be frank: either is unlikely to work with Linux Mint 19.3 and even if it will boot there will be issues with parts of the hardware not working. For these laptops you ...

Re: Aspell - spellcheck for all text editors
http://aspell.net/ There are several other spelling checkers with their own dictionaries that are commonly used, like hunspell. It's up to the app which they use. There also several spelling check libraries apps can use that in turn can make use of aspell or hunspell or others. I don't know how they...

Re: Linux Mint forum - Please provide RSS feeds
The feeds were disabled in March 2023, when the functionality was being abused by somebody (AI bots probably) which caused severe performance issues. As this is a first request to add feeds back in 1½ years and AI bots have continued to be a problem I'm hesitant to add feeds back. I had look at feed...

Re: libgtop vs. libgtop-2.0-11 packages
For compilation you need the development files, those are always found in the the -dev package. To run the compiled app it will obviously also need the gtop library itself installed. So you need libgtop2-dev and libgtop-2.0-11. You could uninstall the -dev package after you're done with compiling. L...

Re: Python: how to pass argument containing blank space with subprocess?
You shouldn't need to quote DejaVu Sans, the command isn't running in a shell. subprocess.run passes each argument in the list separately to the invoked command, without word splitting. Try it like this: subprocess.run(["pandoc", input_file, "-V", "geometry:a4paper,margin=3c...

Re: Search on "Spices" site non-functional
The spices website has 3rd party addons for Cinnamon, not things built in to Cinnamon. The panel-launchers applet is an official applet, built in to Cinnamon.

Re: LM 22 File-roller constantly crashes, bug report links broken
LM 22 uses an obsoleted version of file-roller. That version is no longer maintained. Reporting a bug for that version isn't useful, the file-roller developers can't do anything for it. For LM 22 several Gnome apps that use Libadwaita have been downgraded to an obsoleted version using Gtk 3. Some in...

What you're describing is a spoiler, that's in the tutorial. That last item in the post.
General format is like this:
It also works with code tags:

Code: Select all

Re: upgrade from LM v20.3 Una to v21 (v22)
You can never upgrade through Software Manager, that is only used for installing or removing apps. The blogpost about the upgrade to 21 links you to these instructions: https://linuxmint-user-guide.readthedocs.io/en/latest/upgrade-to-mint-21.html For an in-place upgrade you would follow those instru...

I've added the "BBCodes help" link to the right of the edit buttons. For now it links to the topic about custom BBcodes. I'll reword the introduction on the topic with a short "what is it" and make more clear the link to the help for the standard BBcodes of phpBB. I'm not sure ye...

Re: How to get latest GNOME DE updates on Linux Mint?
There used to be PPAs to get newer GNOME versions on older Ubuntu releases but none of them are still being updated. So no, there's no shortcuts for this. You can get excited for new GNOME releases every 6 months but with Linux Mint you get a GNOME upgrade only once every 2 years. Basically you skip...

Re: How to Zoom In and Out ONLY Text in GNOME Terminal?
Ah. Well, it's not configurable. So you'll have to find a different solution to the problem of sometimes text being too small for what you're working on. Or accept that it works differently than on Windows and the window resizes as well. Maybe you can do something with profiles. Try creating a new p...

Why does it matter that the window size increases? You can change the window size.

Re: Ghost disk usage?
I've never used that but I guess it would be fine to use -m 1 from OS perspective. Filling up an SSD that much will hurt performance and longevity though. You want to avoid a situation where you could fill up the entire disk, not be able to log in to the desktop (what happens when you fill up all no...

Re: Ghost disk usage?
Is there a way to make Nemo and disk analyzer use the same measure to avoid further confusions? Not through preferences. Both programs are free software so you could change their behavior in source code. The portion of the filesystem reserved for root is still free space. Including it in free disk ...

Re: Ghost disk usage?
GB and GiB are not the same thing: 1 GB = 1000³ bytes 1 GiB = 1024³ bytes See in your Disk Usage Analyzer and System Monitor screenshots the total size is shown as 490,6 GB while in your inxi and df output the total is 456.89 GiB / 457G. That tracks because 490 GB equals 456 GiB. It's the same numbe...

Dash to Dock is a Gnome Shell extension. Cinnamon is not Gnome Shell, you can't use Gnome Shell extensions with it.
