Where to post ideas & feature requests

You can post general suggestions and feedback for Linux Mint here. And suggestions, feedback, ideas and feature requests for the forums. Ideas and feature requests for the software developed by Linux Mint — such as if you have an idea to improve Software Manager or a feature request for Cinnamon — i...

To get the most common development libraries available for using with compilers, and general compiler tools, install the package build-essential. Install through Synaptic Package Manager or with command: apt install build-essential

Re: Pale Moon browser v29.2.0 blocks legacy Firefox extensions

By switching to PM you delayed having to find replacements for, or make do without, abandoned extensions by about 5 years I think? That's a good stretch of time. But it's never fun when the software you depend on becomes practically unusable. Will there be a PM fork that will continue to support aba...

Re: Trezor hardware wallet and Linux mint?

If your signature is up to date I would first upgrade to a supported Linux Mint version. Linux Mint 17.3 has reached end of life 2 years ago. Trezor look to have good support for Linux: https://wiki.trezor.io/Linux. I think you need Trezor Bridge to connect your hardware wallet to the software you r...

Re: Firefox tab?/display? problem

Do you perhaps have Citrix client installed? For whatever reason that program caused this exact issue for a Ubuntu 20.04 user (same package base as Mint 20.1): https://askubuntu.com/questions/1327810/20-04-firefox-not-rendering-or-loading-pages If not, is this a fresh install of Mint 20.1 or did you...

Re: Just another install issue

The password to authorize administrative action is your own password. That's the password that's asked when you use Update Manager, Software Manager or when you run commands as root by prefixing them with sudo . If you have multiple commands to run as root use sudo -i which switches your terminal se...

Re: Using AWK with Regular Expressions

I don't know enough awk to tell you why it works from the command line and not from the script. But changing the script to this makes it also work:

Code: Select all

BEGIN {FS=","}
{
if ($2 ~ /King/) print $1 ",", $6
}

Re: How do I generate a SHA256 sum on a Mac?

I copied and pasted the first part of the command you gave me, and instead of /path/to/file I substituted ~/ISO, so it looked like: jim@Jims-MacBook-Air ~ % shasum -a 256 ~/ISO. The ~ apparently represents my home folder which is where I put the ISO file containing the three downloaded files. Add t...

Re: How do I generate a SHA256 sum on a Mac?

macOS has a builtin shasum command that can also do SHA256 sum like so: shasum -a 256 /path/to/file Run it from the terminal program. I'm not otherwise familiar with macOS but hope its file manager has the option to "open terminal here" like on Linux Mint so you can open the terminal immed...

Re: Installing Latest Mint on KIngston 128GB USB

I don't think the filesystem plays a role here. Might the Kingston USB be getting very hot while installing Linux Mint onto it? That would cause the USB to throttle its writing speed to prevent it from overheating.

Re: Bluetooth Adapter not found

The Linux kernel doesn't have a driver for the RT3290 bluetooth. There is a 3rd party separate driver available. It's no longer maintained upstream by may still work; it has a build even for Linux Mint 20.x (Ubuntu Focal). You can try by adding this PPA (software source) to your system https://launc...

Re: Blank screen after grub selection (changed 10-nvidia.conf)

When the grub menu shows, select recovery mode (it may be in the advanced options menu) and then to drop to root console. This will give you a command prompt running as root, here you can fix the issue. First, run this command to allow writing changes to disk: mount -o remount,rw / Next navigate to ...

This is not a simple to answer beginner question for finding your way around Linux Mint thus moved the topic here. Is all the evidence that you've been hacked that you have these "systemd-private" files in your /tmp directory? These are normal files. These directories are file system names...
