Re: Mint 19 Cinnamon unable to install gcc-8

First do: apt update Then try if you can get all these packages reinstalled from the Ubuntu 18.04 (Bionic) repository (they are currently installed from a repository intended for Ubuntu 16.04 that is no longer configured on your system): sudo apt-get install -t bionic cpp-8 gcc-8-base gcc-8-base:i38...

Re: Mint 19 Cinnamon unable to install gcc-8

For a first, I'd suggest to disable the update-toolchain-r/test PPA for now. You can do that in Software Sources. Next I think we'll have to find all packages originally installed from 16.04 repository and force reinstall them all from 18.04 repository. That should get around the problem of unmet de...

Re: Mint 19 Cinnamon unable to install gcc-8

It shows your system is trying to install package meant for Ubuntu 16.04 while Linux Mint 19 is based on Ubuntu 18.04. I guess you upgraded in place from Linux Mint 18.3 and had added some PPA related to GCC previously on that? If that isn't enough of a hint for your to figure it out in Software Sou...

Re: Google is STILL tracking you — here's how to limit it

I hate having to watch a video. Here is an article with clear written instructions on what to do where to disable location tracking for your Google account: https://www.apnews.com/b031ee35d4534f548e43b7575f4ab494 I found I had already disabled this everything in the past somehow. But yeah, try findi...

Re: Thinkpad X1 Carbon 6th gen compatible?

You can try searching for any Ubuntu 18.04 reviews about this laptop. Linux Mint 19 uses the hardware stack from Ubuntu 18.04 so if Ubuntu 18.04 works well with it, generally so will Linux Mint 19. The ThinkWiki may provide help in case something doesn't work: https://www.thinkwiki.org. For the lapt...

Leigh sent the file to BitDefender earlier today for further analysis. It looks to be a false positive. Follow progress on Pjotr's report https://github.com/linuxmint/linuxmint/issues/63. Hm. xnview displays under Info => XMP or Info => Exiftool => XMP only "Rating=0" as only XMP data. (XnView MP Li...

Re: How to find field entries in a column in 1.ods which are not in 2.ods?

There are various ways to do this. One way is to create two text files, copying a list of email addresses into each each, and comparing them with the comm command. Say you have file1.txt and file2.txt, you would run the command as follows: comm -3 file1.txt file2.txt That will show you the email add...

Re: Are there other compatibility resources to verify Acer/Mint install?

As I understand it ChrUbuntu is abandoned but there is a new project called chrx (for x86 Chromebooks, not ARM Chromebooks). chrx however does not support Linux Mint. Crouton also doesn't support Linux Mint. Like I said, you can't dual boot Linux Mint and ChromeOS but will have to replace the latter...

Re: Are there other compatibility resources to verify Acer/Mint install?

GalliumOS is based on Xubuntu, with their modifications added. Before you install Linux Mint on the Chromebook you can test it fully—without making modifications to your system other than switching it into developer mode—to see if it works well enough for your needs. If you do have issues with it yo...

Re: Are there other compatibility resources to verify Acer/Mint install?

Welcome to the Linux Mint forums. It looks like you may expect issues with internal audio and with boot video on that. Taking that info from the hardware compatibility list over at GalliumOS, a Linux distro for ChromeOS devices: https://wiki.galliumos.org/Hardware_Compatibility Installing Linux Mint...

Possibly something in extension you installed? I'd suggest to create a new user account on this system and log in to that. See if you can reproduce the issue on the new user account. Re: Problems with using tr cmd in bash script.

The pure bash way with parameter expansion to substitute all spaces with underscores: #!/bin/bash mv "$@" "${@// /_}" Mind that "$@" joins all arguments to the script with single spaces. This is likely not what you want. Say you have a file called hello world.c , calling your script as myscript hell...

Re: Can you install Deepin Desktop Environment on LMDE?

LMDE 3 is based on Debian Stretch. Deepin packages don't appear in Debian until Debian Buster. Buster is the future release of Debian (likely the package base for LMDE 4). Mind that the linked tutorial is for a long time ago and won't work as written (if at all) with any currently supported version ...

That said, if this computer is connected to the Internet you should really reconsider and leave default to show all securi...
